Japanese style would be to offer you a pair of disposable house slippers. If people offered me slippers, I'd take my shoes off no problem. If I'm allowed to bring my own slippers, no problem. But it's a big ask for me to put my bare or socked feet on someone's floors.

Not everyone has a shoes off house. I don't, but I tend to take my shoes off when I get home anyway, just for comfort. But I previously has orthotics in my shoes where I was supposed to wear them all the time I was walking, like even around the house, and they only fit in one special expensive type of shoes, so I only had that one pair of shoes during that time (so couldn't have indoor/outdoor shoes.) So it really sucked when I visited my shoes off household relatives, because it would result in extreme lasting leg pain (and also danger when I would go up/down their stairs.)

Spot on bro! I take pride in my ability to sprint barefoot down a stone driveway. It aint much, but its mine.
Griffin has gray hair!
That Heroes reference came way out of left field 😂
My dad has super sensitive feet, and WILL NOT walk around anywhere without them on. I've seen him sleep in them--not take a nap on the couch sleep, like fully in bed, shoes poking out of the blanket sleep. I'm the opposite, where anywhere I'm able to take my shoes off, I will. He saw me walk on asphalt once without shoes and visibly cringed.
Not all capes wear Heroes, or are Heroes Reborn.
I grew up thinking that shoes in the house was strictly a TV thing, because it’s the only place I ever saw it. Weirdly enough I distinctly (maybe my memory isn’t pristine, lol) remember a quote from Justin in Wizards of Waverly Place saying “if you don’t wear your shoes in the house, you don’t have to vacuum” or something like that and it confused the hell out of me. I was like “yes you do you weirdo.” Can’t imagine walking around in the house in shoes, absolute insanity. Unless there’s a super specific reason to like living in a farmhouse or something similar like I’ve seen in other comments. Even Griffin’s “in the Japanese style” goof took me some time to understand because my Canadian ass was like “you mean _the thing_ you do with shoes?”
not the heroes reference😂
I don't feel bad about it for a second. In fact as I'm putting the key in the lock I go ahead and let everyone know.
A lot of people talking about stinky feet. Y’all are wrong. If I’m working all day and planning to go somewhere, chances are I’m changing between. Also, I’ve had all sorts of people coming to my house for literal decades and NOT ONCE have I ever noticed someone having nasty feet. Shoes belong outside and at work.

Turn it around on you. I walk in your house. Shoes next to the door. Is it alright if I take my shoes off?
I can't be the only one who feels more comfortable with than without shoes. Walking barefoot feels terrible and walking with socks will destroy the socks
