As I understand it, at least in the US, "publishing" an idea prior to patenting it invalidates any patent claims.

How so, copyright would cover it wouldn't it? Copyright © protection can be anything with the date given as long as it matches the claim.....

In the US a patent is only worth the money you have to defend it in court. The Chinese will make knock offs of your product in 2 seconds. If you want to sell them be first to market. Then give it a searchable name that you own. There will still be knockoffs but when people search for your product it will lead them to your point of sale.

That's right my friend, you can't patent that idea now!

@@CoolIdeasDIY-qv1nz everyone says the same but can't answer how and why. I have for my 3d printer extruder and I've even made a few © claim's on believe it or not ONLY U.S citizens stealing and giving away my specific design wiring on KZread and a reddit community I had shut down with over 6000 user's. Copyright © is your best friend in the real world and second comes the patient for manufacturing purposes.

@@motormaker sad but true but unfortunately it's most likely going to be someone close by that reverse engineers it and sells to the Chinese as I quickly found out myself Americans are the worst for it, the Chinese just do as they are told that's why most of the time they can get away with it, there's up to 6 parties involved in a Chinese online sale goodluck getting ahold of 1 let alone 6 and or the original person!
Brass, aluminium, copper, stainless steel, and plastics are some materials you will find the miracle idea will not work. A rolling bearing is a better method.

Welcome!
I have been a turner for more than 30 years, and I often encounter this method in workshops in the city where I work.
Old trick, dates back years. I served my apprenticeship in a 600 man shop, I saw this many times in the lathe section being used to square parts for the second op.

Here is a tip you might try; tell and show us what your device does in the beginning of the video instead of making us watch you make a kilogram of turnings.

AMEN! I Couldn't tell you how many vids I've bailed on because of this.
Not a bad idea, though it would be better if it had a Morse taper instead of being held in a Jacobs chuck. A chuck looses accuracy wit use. It would be a waste of money for him to patent it, of course, since prior publication in this video renders a patent invalid.

Why the hole in the shaft?
If you remember, I asked you, where did you purchase your Mill. On June 7th, I used my Lathe and placed a 6mm die into the chuck. Placed my machined "Back Stop" into my drill / tailstock. Then pushed the die against the surface. Tightened my Lathe Chuck when the die was aligned, just like you did. It works great with short stock. Thanks showing people, whom watched this video 😅....

You haven’t thought of anything new…. I was using similar methods 50 years ago, and I’m sure that I wasn’t the first to employ such methods then.
👍
Nice one 👍👍
I'll be ordering a suitable magnet shortly
Don't jump in with the Lawyer just yet. Go look and peal back the onion a bit. Cheers!
Bravoooo ottima idea
Which only works if the end of your stock is square already... And to square the stock, you need it aligned in a chuck... Which needs the tool to align it... Catch 22.
Excellent idea.
There are already tools to do this. Doubt if they’ll give you a patent for it.
To bad you published your idea on utube, with that action you'll never get a patent...... As a holder of patents I understand patent law fairly well.😢 Hopefully you filed prior to publishing the video!
Mis respetos, como decimos en México eres un chingón , bien por el invento. Saludos

According to the UK Patent Office, quote "To be patentable, the invention must never have been made public in any way, anywhere in the world, before the date on which an application for a patent is filed" The post on reddit disqualifies it. 😞
You should patent that. But I'm going to make one before you do

I've learned, as a successful inventor, that a patent is only as strong as how long you can battle it out in the courts. Generally whoever has the most money wins. Don't count on a patent for protection. I've been told by patent examiners that some of my claims at the end of a disclosure are rejected because anyone skilled in the art would have thought of the idea. On the other hand, I have read two separate patent disclosures (of a similar idea) that seem to be exactly the same, letter for letter. If and when you do come up with a novel idea and product, do some online research (at no cost to you) to see if someone else has thought of it first.
Fitting a little ball bearing into the end of a rectangular rod, all held in the tool post, it can push alumminium, brass, plastic etc in place in the chuck.

I made one like you describe many years ago and have used it dozens of times. Mounted horizontally it will also straighten a wobbly shaft in the chuck which this tool will not do.

@@ellieprice363 Having a bearing in both ends it will act both radially and like in the video, just turning the tool post 90 degrees. The idea came from one hobby machinist, not invented by me. Okey, the actual design is mine but the idea.... copied.

@@Stefan_Boerjesson No need for two bearings or turning the tool post. Just clamp the single bearing tool in the horizontal position in the tool post.

@@ellieprice363 Maybe. My designed allows for pressing along the holder only. Then a second bearing was an easy solution.
@ellieprice363

@@Stefan_Boerjesson The double bearing design works well if the tool post can be accurately indexed 90 degrees and quickly returned with the tool parallel to the chuck face. My BXA Aloris is loosened by a large nut on top and is difficult to return to the original position. Thus it’s easier for me to reposition the single bearing tool to the horizontal position.
Super, sehr gut.....

I don’t like too many magnets around my machines. I use the bearing tool, works like a charm, also on delrin, aluminium, etc.
👏👏👏
One condition for patenting is that the number of people that are told the secret, is known. If it is published in KZread then You cannot patent. Even telling it on a lecture is enough to disqualify.
I just use a bolt with a bearing mounted on it and run it on the edge of the spinning disk.... works perfectly. no cost.
Genial.
Idéia genial
kind of good idea as long as the drill holder is set at Zero when clocked(no Taper) on slide! Many just use a spider plate that fits between chuck jaws, but this is only good for larger dia material so in all its a good alternative. hope it sells.

Great invention. I think you should name it a '"magnet'"
When I have a wobblie part in the chuck I don't tighten it up too tight and then I just run the tool post (or something) up against it to true it up while it's spinning.
Patents are evil. Copyright is evil.
Pomysłowy wyalazek bardzo przydatny , Brawo...
Very nice, simple to make, and useful.
The only amazing thing I see here is how clean the lathe is
A roller bearing mounted in the tool post trues up run-out in the X or Y axis whether or not it's steel, brass aluminum, wood or plastic.
Slamat berkarya Banyak Alat2 Tools ditemukan Orang terdahulu 20tahun yg lalu menemukan Tools Sukur ada yg pruduksi hingga dijual diToko pidia
basically a tailstock button dont need magnetic just a flat faced mushroom, hold part light in chuck then rod through rear of head to press part against button, ferrous or nonferrous don't matter was doing that 50 years ago still do
Super pomysl
That's a nice lathe . What make and model is it? Thanks! Great idea too!
I have already seen this tool in some different workshops... and please consider you cannot use it for alluminum alloy and inox alloy

Put some parallel metal stripes behind you workpiece and you have the same result.
You must be from Pakistan. They always do the thumbs up to indicate a genius concept. Then they throw the finished part onto the dirt floor.
Handy but i have used the tail stock without a center or chuck to do the same thing, granted it isnt magnetic but it get thhe work piece pretty close to running true if its been faced off.
Or… and this’ll even work for non magnetic workpieces too… lightly clamp the part in the chuck, push the tailstock spindle against the part and apply a little force as you turn the chuck by hand. Then retighten the chuck and you’re done. As for patenting, you’ve published the idea, so no chance, not to mention I doubt this is novel.
BONITO DE VER
For what I do i will need to source an aluminum magnet... Can anyone tell me where to buy one?
