That’s a pretty cool upgrade for those cars that don’t have the factory idrive although I think it looks to big in proportion to the rest of the dash. A slightly smaller version would be better.

Routing of the AUX cable depends if you have 6FL (USB) input. If you have 6FL (USB), the sound has to be routed to the AUX port. If you don't have 6FL (USB), the sound is routed from the head unit directly via fiber optics to the sound module in the trunk. 😊

You should make a comparison video of the 12 inch and the 10-inch. Also wish they made this style in 10-in. I like how it seems more flush against the dash.

I'd get one of these if I didn't have I-Drive but I'd get the smaller option, I think 12" is too big (for a screen).

So I got this unit I watch alot of your videos helped alot with my 2008 335xi. Problem I am having is you mentioned using mhd jb4 on this app how did you make this work for both? Does it not work with phone link can't get the apps to show up in customization list.

I bought an older 335i with very low mileage and one of the selling points was there was not a damn screen on the dash. Not a fan. Absolutely love the BMW though. 335i convertible 2013 42000 miles. Sweet. Also there is something to look at; the road and traffic around you.

It's a shame about the mess up, because without ever seeing this before, I thought that those lines should be matching up....

I have installed xtrons for E61 2006 ccc. I have audio trough the Aux in the harness not using the original aux in the back seat. But the oem part keeps switching to FM at random times..

Yeesh. Something didn't look quite right with that template. I wish Xtrons would just make it one piece instead of two. Thanks for showing the process, great content, will prevent a lot of folks from making a snafu.

I just got the new 10.25 CCC Xtrons unit for my E90, model QAB12CCB12E92. It is very similar to this one but is a 10.25" screen made for iDrive, but the big difference is it doesn't have a snapdragon CPU, instead it has Cortex octa-core with 8 gb ram. Im trying to figure out how to get to the advanced settings because it seems like it maybe be hidden on this unit. Overall I'm very happy with it. I ordered a 12.3 Avin unit at the same time so i could compare them, but honestly this xtrons was so good, I canceled the Avin before it even arrived because I feel like this is the perfect size and feel like the whole package is pretty polished. I did have a small issue with it rattling after install, but I was able to take it out and readjust it tighter into the dash ans fixed the rattle issue. Just a dew small options I would like to be able to customize to make it perfect.

back in the days i put a ipad with magnetic holders on the dash. looks much better, costs 15 bucks and you are up to date - everytime.

Did you ever try both units /QXB2290UN_LP and the PEP9290B I know it maybe over kill but the PEP9290B looks alot better than the factory head unit! And both would be very nice.

My E90 came with factory fitted CIC unit, 6.5 inches. Then I wanted a bigger display, so I went with the Chinese popup-style display. Used it for almost a year and figured out that the sound quality was awful on those. When I switch to the radio, it used the built-in radio tuner and the sounds were way better. When playing MP3 from the Android unit, they weren't good at all. So after some consideration, I upgraded my CIC to the bigger 8.8 inches pro version. I had to change both the display and the head unit and it was wholly worth it. It has a built-in hard drive, so I can load tons of music and the sound quality is top-notch. My conclusion is, if you care about the sound quality, do not go with those Chinese Android units.

I bought this unit, it worked perfectly fine for 6 months, then suddenly one morning, no radio, no head unit working. Blowing fuse#14 in the glove box. I removed that adapter wiring harness, replaced the fuse just with the radio, and all works fine. Plug in the adapter harness to the radio and instantly pop goes the fuse, thus no power to anything with audio, radio, cd ect.I am stumped as to why. Waiting to now find out about warranty. Not sure if the harness has a fault or if the head unit is back feeding the current. Other than that, it’s an awesome upgrade to my old E90

Consider using an oscillating tool. You will have better control cutting the dash.

You were supposed to overlap the template and the green lines were supposed to touch lol but good on you for showing this so others dont fuck up too.

Does it overheat being in the sun? I have a tablet connected to obd port attached to my windshield and here in Texas it gets hot and turns off after like 20 minutes

Never had any overheating issues with any of the Xtrons head units I've installed.

When you make calls do you have to switch back to the cars bluetooth? What happens when you press the phone button on the steering wheel?

It's funny because when you were putting those templates on. I was sitting here thinking, "Shouldn't those green lines match up?" (Not that I've ever installed this shit before.) But when you didn't do that. I'm like okay. I guess I was wrong. And then you had to order a new dash. And then I sitting there thinking, well I guess I was right. 😂

That speaker, which comes with this kit, you can hide behind the dash. It's actually for the chimes when you have a door open or you don't have your seat belt on etc

@Enrico again, over here, it's not the cops who would do the checking. We have mandatory annual checks called MOT's, which stop us from making too crazy of mods to our cars. Want to delete your DPF or EGR valve... that will cost you £1000 fine when the MOT tester sees it missing either by the visual inspection or the emissions test and you wont be able to drive the car until the car has been returned to stock. Even installing aftermarket LED or HID headlights is now illegal. It used to be so long as the beam pattern was still correct, but they made a change to the law a couple of years back. If you like big tyres on your truck, you can't have any amount of the tyre sticking out of the wheel arches, you have to make sure you also widen them to make sure they cover them. I am not arguing with you or trying to troll you. I genuinely love watching your videos as I love anyone who keeps the older nicer looking cars running and up to date with new tech and stuff. Do you know if there's any mods out there which can add adaptive cruise control to older BMWs? I often have to do a lot of motorway miles and if I could just turn cruise control on and not need to worry about needing to break when the traffic starts building up I would love that

How does this non idrive head unit hold up? I currently have one but there are times where apply car play will not connect at it. When it does it takes forever and will sometimes disconnect or pause my music. Another thing I noticed is that it greatly reduces the sound quality of my music. Sometimes I wish I had never installed it because Id rather not have anything than something that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't (especially since you have to make a hole in your dash). Does this come with warranty of any sort just in case it's acting up?

Honestly never experienced such issues with the Xtrons head units. Xtrons does however offer warranty for faulty units.

urg, the controller knob doesn't fit the e93 models because of the roof button :( Been trying to find one that would fit

Quick question those blue little plastic pieces that hold in the dash board… can you replace those if you break it? Kinda messed up the corner closest to my start button changing the button out lol
