This has NEVER happened in the NHL

Спорт

The NHL has NEVER seen what the Tampa Bay Lightning achieved last night against the Carolina Hurricanes. Antti Raanta gave up 8 goals on just 14 shots as the Lightning scored 8 goals on 14. That is a 57.1% shooting percentage, the highest recorded in NHL history. I felt horrible for Raanta as he really had no shot at saving about 6 of those 8 in a night that marked the return of Andrei Vasilevskiy for the Lightning. It was a wild game and I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

This is more Carolina’s coaching’s fault then Raanta. To allow your team to pick up so many penalties without any repercussions, as well as letting walk over your goalie on said power plays, as well as leaving him in for 8 goals against. Pull him at 3 if that’s what’s happening! Change the pace and call a timeout!

Brind'Amour: "It wasn't like they were his fault. The first four were just wide-open bombs and kind of a weird bounce on the one. But the other thing was that I've had to put [Kochetkov] in bad spots a lot. I've thrown him in there quite a bit halfway through games and I didn't really want to do that. After the fifth one, I probably should have taken him out, but the game was pretty much over at that point. You're worried about the other guy too."

There is one reason and one reason alone that statistics cannot predict the outcome of sporting events and that is the anomaly. This game is a prime example of a statistical anomaly which just can't be predicted. We've all seen games where the announcers say that one team could have had more goals if it hadn't been for a couple of posts and a couple of incredible saves. Here there were no posts and no incredible saves and yet, you really can't blame the goalie for more than perhaps 2 of the goals!

Watching him be completely ineffective in the Panthers game vs the Canes, his once feared shot from the point on the pp was blocked by forwards with their stick blades and no stick suffered damage. The fact that Tampa, riding a high with Vasilevsky back throttling a feckless Canes team is not shocking, whats shocking is people still being shocked that the hurricanes are not that good.
