When Tanya smiles, you forget that winter is all around, and with each new smile you feel the arrival of spring - this is me, about the state of mind! Judging by the shadow, the house is located with an entrance to the northwest? Or I'm wrong? But if this is the case, then I would reorient the house with the entrance to the south, or southwest. With such powerful beams and a tractor, it would be a doable job! Given the arrival of the polar day, it would be great! Good luck guys from the bottom of my heart!!

Nothing you do is short- changed in the slightest. You can tell much time has been spent in the "thinking about it" phase of construction and it shows in the incredible work you do. @@ThisIsMyAlaska Yes, my job bought me down here from NJ, 23 years ago. Several job later, and kids now grown up, we are still here. About 30 miles north of Dallas. Went to Alaska in early March with my whole clan. It was great.

You both are the most hard working people I know and can do anything you set your mind too. Watching you all put that beam under that house the way you did was genius. Great job!! By the way supper looked amazing.

It is a bit overwhelming even for us!

Hi Gale, Tanya and of course, Stella the wonder dog, lol. First, I am sure Spenard Builders love you, lol. I like that little cabin and the open space around it. Most people want a forest surrounding them but, open spce like yours gives you plenty of opportunity to spot wildlife. I could live in that little cabin 24/7 and have lived in wall tents in the bush in my 74 years. Tanya is a wonderful helper. I like me a bake potato now and then with butter and scallions. Me and Aurora my Australian Shepard will have to take a trip up your way this Summer. We will have that coffee one way or another, lol.

Good morning John. You are right about the wide open visibility here. There are plenty of caribou and moose around and not a few grizzly too. I am with you on the wall tents. I was living in one when I met Tanya (37 years ago) but figured I had better improve my housing situation if I was ever going to have a chance with her 🤣 so I move into a dry cabin. We love this little place though. It is gong to be a charmer when we are done with it. We’ll get together this summer. Peace

Just discovered this Series i’m enjoying every minute of it 35 years ago my wife and I finished off the house where it framed out and did a lot of work ourselves but not off the grid good Lord are you guys lucky

Well, I thought you might be wanting to use it as an Air B&B! Hahahahaha! That kind of goes against the idea of living off grid and away from the "madding crowds"!!! If this little jewel was mine, I would set up an art studio with a bookshelf containing all my favorite books in one corner; a king-sized bed in another; a small kitchen with only healthy foods; a small stereo in another corner to play only soothing music; and a tiny "Loo" attached to the back end. Then, I'd throw away my cell phone and any way of communicating with the outside world; walk in, close the door and live in peace and serenity until I die! Sounds like Heaven to me! Good morning Leslie. Your comments reminded me of one of my favorite quotes. It was from Linda McCartney, “I had daydreams and fantasies when I was growing up. I always wanted to live in a log cabin at the foot of a mountain. I would ride my horse in to town to pick up provisions. Then I would return to the cabin, with a big open fire, a record player, and peace”

I am so glad I came across this channel! You are very talented and very PATIENT! I’ve enjoyed watching you with your wife and especially how you’ve guided/taught your little grandson. You remind me so much of my dad. I will definitely keep watching. P.S. we are all sweating in South Texas 😂

Well the skid idea was just for easier beam movement or you are going to move the building closer to the road and open a frozen salmon frappe shop with a deck on the long side of the beams. Maybe an 10 foot edition, ether way or what ever you do thanks for getting me out of my cabin for 41 minutes. Enjoyed it much, may all your adventures end with a smile on your face.

Greetings, thank you for replying . Yes, near Mt Koskiosko we had snow 8 months of the year and the children went to school on skies. When I was there it was the old township, and very much a pioneering life. The snow plough had to dig us out of our cabin, and our groceries were flown in to the little general store. Cooma, the nearest town, was 100 miles away. We were very isolated. My father helped to build the dams from the Snowy and Murray Rivers. Do read about it, when I was there it was like the film The Man from Snowy River. I love your sweet dog. Please give her a hug from me. Lots of love to you all. ❤❤❤

You both work well together and it is good to see your Wife is practical ... How ever as I absolutely HATE the Cold, Ice and Snow (even snow and ice on a card makes me shiver) it leads me to suggest you are both Barmy enjoying living in that Blank visa of Snow to the left of you... Snow to the right of you ....Snow in front of you .... and Snow behind you ....and More bloody SNOW beyond that ....Do you ever get the urge to get out the Spray gun and SPRAY the Snow different Colours to brighten up the landscape. OK I will grant you each to his /her own ... so you can have my share of Snow and Ice as I am most definitely a SUN person. Best regards from Down Under

Good afternoon Steve. The little log cabin I built last winter is our place near town. These other cabins up in the mountains are only a few miles apart. We hope to operate a small lodging business here one day soon. We are still not sure what it will look like entirely, but we know these buildings need some work, so we will start with that

You are so lucky to have a wife who is willing to help you - and in rough conditions. I have trouble just getting my wife into the heated shop to hold a board for me.

There were times on the cabin build I was talking to my TV, saying “get that guy some help!” You always manage to pull it off somehow. But how nice to have the Mrs. there with you! Hay guys I came across your husband's build of the little cabin with your grandson I love the facts u teaching life long stills to him my son is also a carpenter I always say he would and could make a mansion out of toothpicks and make it strong I love watching the man and wife do things as a team ..u make look so eazy thank u and wow look at all that snow,! It's so strange, when you talk directly to the camera/audience and hearing "I'm not a 100% sure I know what I'm doing" after seeing you building an entire house mostly in silence and never hasitant about anything.
