    you totally said it right, why don`t you get it? these swords can come into CONTACT with humans WITHOUT killing them. That`s why they are called CONTACT swords. to differ them from normal swords, with which contact might kill you.

    Ok, I admit that might be true, but have you ever seen true sword fights on the streets these days? ´Cause I definitely haven´t. So here´s the perfect tip for going onto "the battlefield": Buy yourself a weapon that ain´t out of real use for about a century, and don´t mess with artists because they aren´t warriors. Or can you really imagine ANY sword fighter surviving for more than a few seconds on, for example, any battlefield within syria right now?

    If anyone is wondering how sticks don't fall: 1. That ball on one end is a counter-weight. 2. When he rolls the stick. The spinning creates enough torque that forces the stick to hold it's position. The same force makes moving bicicle easier to balace than when staying still on one spot.

    Sword skills are not always have to do with fighting. It's simply a skill of using sword to achieve something, which in this case probably art and entertainment...or maybe even body conditioning. The view that swords skills being only for fighting is a stereotyping based on majority of modern culture presentations of swords.

    They're called contact swords because the entirety of the object besides the part you actively hold and juggle can be set ablaze, whereas a contact staff has a singular wick at the very end, not consisting of a majority of its length. It's really that simple, get over it already.

  • @Velacroix

    @Velacroix

    I don't care who coined the term or why, but an object has a variety of uses or characteristics attached to a convenient label for identification. Confusing porcelain with mercury or tic tacs with tetrapods could be troubling, right? A sword has an old and specific definition deriving from the material, length, origin, shape, and purpose that most educated people are familiar with. The performance was pretty cool and inspiring, but there were no swords present in this video. It's really that simple, get over it already.

    I know this is an old comment but if you're still interested in learning flow I'd suggest starting with contact staff then move to contact sword. Contact staff and sword are very simliar but with contact staff, you often have more room to make mistakes and there are many more tutorials. Once your good at contact staff you just transition the same skills over to sword but learn to do them on a smaller surface. This sword and my recommended contact staff are from Wizards of Flow. The practice contact staves are around $150 but a quality staff goes a long way in teaching you and it's full carbon fiber so you can do acrostaff techniques as well. Which is basically flipping on the staff or putting your full body weight on it.

    This video is a circus art named Contact sword or Floating sword, so please dont think Kuma films made a fake title. Actually the title is exactly what this circus art is named, nowhere in the title does it mention martial art or fighting. Contact Sword is a circus art-form where the artist manipulates a sword shaped object rolling around their body without the use a constant close handed grip. The art was innovated by the creator of the Flow-toys company. This is a performance art created for the sake of Fire or glow performance. Special materials are required to make the fire burn on the sword for several minutes. Kevlar fabric must be applied on the metal tube or blade to make the fire effect work. The art is a hybrid of Contact Juggling (body rolling with a clear ball) and Fei Cha (an ancient Chinese circus art that uses shaolin tridents rolling around the body to create a magical effect.) Many circus arts are created from using martial weapons in a creative way, nobody is claiming any battle or martial application. if you see someone juggling knives, are you going to really complain that it wont work in battle, or will you just enjoy the show? There are only a handful of rare videos of this specific circus art on the internet, but there are thousands and thousands of Martial art sword form videos on the internet. Kuma Films make great videos of interesting and unique art-forms, people come to their channel to see awesome things that are not yet mainstream and difficult to find elsewhere. and make no mistake, learning Contact sword requires as much or more skill and practice then martial sword style, and the only one you can hurt is yourself, lol.
