That Compaq portable with the CRT monitor was in the class of computers we used to call luggables. It was freaking cool. Shame I had to give it back when I returned home.
I knew Brian was cool after some episodes installing equipment, but this is epic! I love how deep his appreciation for electronics goes. A great resource to help restore vintage machines some day!

I think a big motivation for tech hoarding behavior is when you grow up with an interest in technology and being unable to afford it or are extremely restricted.
@MrRay3801

I can see that, I grew up in the 80s and 90s and loved tech....problem was my parents wouldn't spend money on it. Now that I can afford whatever I want, im constantly upgrading my rig with the latest and greatest. I've built computers for my kids and my wife. I feel like I'm catching up for all those years trying to get games to run on subpar equipment and failing miserably lol. I can see how tech hoarding can get out of control fast!

@@MrRay3801 quote: "im constantly upgrading my rig with the latest and greatest" nice. I'm going the opposite way. I'm buying old, cheap computers and modify them to try how much lower i can go in old technology and still make something work. Like "whats the oldest PC that can still run LOL at medium settings" or "whats the oldest PC that can still run a youtube-video" and so on. it's a fun hobby to play with tech 😜
I know I'm commenting 3 years after release but this video was entertaining and actually super educational on old hardware. I've always had PCs growing up like family PCs and didnt get my own gaming PC till I was around 16. But it was really cool to see learn how some of the older hardware worked and their purpose as well as just the random old tech like the Gravis Gamepad
I have that exact same “cd changed” it’s actually paired with some amazing speakers and I added an extra subwoofer and it’s great. Use it with the rca in ports coming from aux on my pc.

Excluding the RS Model 4P and TV connected computers, I started with two 386SX PCs i got from the base aafes for $200 not working. I got one working, shipped the other to packard bell for warranty return. Sold one for $600. Over the years I kept all my upgrades starting around the first Athlon. Doesn't even fill a reach in closet. After watching this video might get an old one running capable of installing those awesome Jane's flight sims from the 90s.... still have them all! Will need a month to read the flight manual for Jane's F15.
