As a mainly magic player you are correct, the way the community evaluates cards is rarely based on the player themselves testing the card, but on opinions based on previous game experiences or beliefs on what is relevant in their format of choice. GOAT format is still one of my favorite 1v1 competitive formats and your channel has been an excellent resource. Thank you!

The "if it were good then everyone would already be playing it" type of reasoning is captured in developmental psychology. It's part of stage 4 reasoning, which is very rules and authority centered. Most of the population rests at this stage. The best players of all time use stage 5 reasoning.

i don't consider myself a particularly competitive person, at least not when it comes to games, but one of my favorite aspects of the compettitive side of a game like goat format era yuigoh is the potential to find the next powerful meta upsetting card or strategy that will surprise people. without that creative aspect i think the game would quickly get boring

The high-variance blindspot is something I've noticed for sure. People are very bad at even identifying which situations are a matter of luck in the first place. Also, it's very relevant in Edison in particular where you just can't afford to play perfectly safe all the time as you just end up sabotaging yourself in likelier scenarios. Sometimes you need to just accept that you lose to a particular combination of cards when the return is so great and the alternatives place you in precarious positions. Gorz is among the best examples of this. What's the point in playing around Gorz when you can't reasonably expect to gather proper outs to it? There are many positions where you're better off playing around it, but you need to recognize the situations where you have to play assuming they don't have the power card, be it Gorz, Mirror Force, Torrential, Snatch or Storm in hand, etc. TL;DR many high intermediate players are bad at assessing situations and determining the expected return on a risky play

10:00 This still surprises me a bit because as long as I've been exposed to Yugioh, Call of the Haunted has always been considered a good card. So learning that it's apparently rarely played in the best boss monster-centric Goat Format deck is still kind of a shock to me, even though from playtesting I can somewhat understand why. The main issue I've seen with it is that it's just slow and can be glass cannon-y.

when it comes to time wizard i love using time wizard of tomorrow in master duel, always satisfying when it works

It's definitely a psychology thing. The amount of rng already present in the game is frustrating enough without adding on extra rng inside of the card effects.

what do you think of teching 1 goat 1 morph 1 book over 2 na and card d in chaos turbo? i keep seeing people side in goats and morphs for warrior but i feel like it might be worth just maining

Na and cardd work better for the "turbo" gameplan. Scape+ meta is just a package used against aggros/warrior, but in the main u d prefer a more turbo predisposition of the deck. If u like scape + meta, u should try control (I suggest the normal one) but if I want I can try chaos control. N.b control is pretty difficult to play at high level, needs a high knowledge of the game. First duels will be difficult

@@leonardoromano160true. i haven't played in years so a lot of the nuances of modern goat are lost on me. i'm probably trying too hard to fix the warrior matchup instead of just accepting its bad g1
