    I like that idea. What I liked about human kind is that you could change your society as it went through time. What I didn't like is that you could feasibly pick the same powerful civs over and over for every game, with several "bad" cultures that you wouldn't pick if your life depended on it. I think it would be FAR more interesting if the culture you picked depended upon What you built, what natural resources you have, and what culture/war/technological points you have. So, a civ with a lot of marble in its cities would be able to pick the Greek culture, and one with access to stone, sand, and has river transport technology has access to Egyptian culture. Have a strong military and lots of military tech? Spartan culture. Granted, it works a lot better during the ancient eras, but I think it can be an interesting twist. I mean, add some religion to that, and we can have something where if something like Catholicism spreads to your civ, it block certain bonuses in favor of its own. Like if there's a boost to science from catholisism, it overwrites a bonus to culture from greek religion. But, since its a dominant religion now, you get negatives as well, such as a decrease in economy, since no one works on sunday.

    they should move away from real world cultures totally imo. Just let us evolve from stoneman organically by choosing techs and cultures etc depending on our surrounding territory. Would make for the most realistic and immersive civ like game.@@SImrobert2001

    I played the heck out of the demo in the steam nextfest, it was a lot of fun. Seeing the new ages only makes me look forward to this game more. The Raiders are some of the most OP things I have ever seen however, anybody picking it gets a free win because it creates an infinite self-sustaining loop of war exp. The more you fight the more exp you get, and the more exp you get the more soldiers you get basically for free that eventually outclass everything.

  • @jeffjwatts

    @jeffjwatts

    The devs already nerfed raiders since the demo. Will have to see if it’s more balanced or more broken. Personally I prefer warriors which also makes infinite Spartans from war cop. I think it takes more war costs per unit than raiders, but I never tried raiders during the demo. I had a real fun war against my neighbor who was a raider while I was warriors, I won just before the end of the demo.

    I really like the way this game aproaches the 4X genre, it makes great twists in the formula and plays very well, while being mostly bug-free. The only thing holding it back is how it looks and the public perception around it, its not very pretty, and when the innevitable CIV comparisons pop up, it tends to lose. A shame, I really hope this game does well and the devs can keep working on it, has a lot of promise and is already pretty good.

From what I've played thus far the RNG (including AI progression) takes away a lot of agency. Which I've never been a fan of in games. I suspect that this game will be a tough cookie to master.

    Hey pravus here is an idea for a fallout owb campaign. You could call it the Great brotherhood of Steel Campaign. So you start as lost hills and as you make contact with other brotherhoods (and they join you or whatever) you can switch over to that nation and play as them as if you are giving out orders from you bunker. This way you can visit old and new factions while still essentially playing as lost hills. So you don’t get bored with the slow grind of lost hills

    This is one of the better games i've seen lately. Went to play when it had a free weekend and played like 10 full games in a row :D Got to Age Of Heroes on second run, you just need to invest in more scouts early in game and maybe some luck, but early scouts are great way to gather exploration points and grab those "tribal villages" around the map so you are effectively weakening your opponents that way. The free weekend demo was over on the turn 50 so for any good testing i needed to rush everything :D - so got to hero age in mid to late 30's . Btw - you know you can research tech you didn't take earlier ? - i think you could be much better with some stuff like Knowledge if you did research those buildings. P.S. - you can do some fun stuff with pioneers and culture events, put an outpost adjacent to your city then when you get an culture event you can "Absorb Outpost" - you immediately get a level 2 town on that spot - so, if you did "the math" correctly and you placed center of outpost in-between a few special resources you can get very good wealth generation from that and then even more for town specialization.

    This definitely looks promising as a sort of... anti-civ. Civ has become far too ingrown with its super specific ruler and nation gameplay styles, whereas Humankind went... really weird with its "Japan is now known as the Netherlands" approach to a nation identity. Having a strong fantasy and "alternate earth" feel definitely works.

    I'm trying to understand why you'd build 2 cities so close together instead of expanding the first city. What are the pros and cons vs each? Basically growing wide vs growing tall I guess. Because at the half way point you had cotton in one city, is it usable in the capital for converting to other stuff?

    You keep saying to treat it like an indie title, but I don't think I can. This is Paradox. HoI4, Stellaris, EU4, CK3, all very big hits in their own right. This game feels a bit unpolished from a company that has the means to do better.

    A game is either quality or it isn't. There is no such thing of treating a game like an "indie", "AAA", like it came out in the 90's, like it can out today. It seems like an interesting game regardless of who makes it or when it was made.

    Do the systems feel fleshed out or incomplete? I can't in good conscience buy another Paradox game and get sucked into and endless loop of updates and necessary DLC to complete the game. Jury is out for me.
