I can't believe I spent so much money on this.
It's amazing what people can make in MS Paint these days. Even more amazing that I paid to play it.

It's like a game design student procrastinated for an entire semester then the night before finals, threw this together, got mad that their grade ended up being a flat 0 and released this on steam at a high price to "prove the teacher wrong".

I love how DF wanted to see a dragon spewing fireballs in an animated fashion, and 100 odd steps later dragon with animated fireballs. Foresight.
As an indie game dev, I can attest to how beautifully made this game is. It takes pure skill and genius to make something so... whatever this is. 😅
Just the sound of the spacebar being pressed 50x per second in the background every time he tries to jump killed me lol
I think I understand why it doesn't jump always. I think you have to press the button at a time were it calculates the next timestep. So jumping is a frameperfect trick.
@Nevir202
11 ай бұрын
Ya, pretty sure you are right. but that's IF it only detects the press, and not the keydown state. Because if it can detect the latter, he could have just kept holding the spacebar lol. I kinda think that might have been the case, because it it was really frame perfect, I'd have actually expected it to be even LESS consistent lol.

That price tag is either insanity, a typo, or an intentional deterrence.
If this game was made in unity, I assume the developer checked for inputs in FixedUpdate instead of Update. FixedUpdate is for stuff like physics calculation (which was probably used for the controlling the character). However FixedUpdate is not called every frame, so inputs like pressing a key can get lost if pressed at the wrong time.
@loermansw
11 ай бұрын
What do you mean with fixedupdate not getting called every frame? The engine calls FixedUpdate once every 0.02 seconds, or 50x per second, independently of framerate. Yeah it doesn't call every frame but I remember that's not an issue for input detection, though I'd have to go back and check on some of my old projects to confirm.
@djeurissen111
11 ай бұрын
As you said, FixedUpdate is not called every frame. This is not an issue for some inputs like GetAxis that return a floating point value. But boolean inputs like pressing a key is frame perfect, so skipping frames with FixedUpdate will miss those inputs
@BrunisPistol
11 ай бұрын
@@loermansw I believe the issue would come from also using onPress methods for input detection, which iirc only registers the input exactly once on the frame it is pressed. If implemented in fixed update, then there's a chance it won't line up with the actual frames and miss the one where the button press was reported. Been a minute since I used unity though, educated guess at best
@danitho

@@loermansw I don't even code like that but... "What do you mean it's not called every frame?" Then literally a sentence later: "Yeah, it doesn't call every frame..." That was hilarious to read. @glebglub

oh you young whippersnappers. back in MY day we had keyboards and mice using the PS2 jack, not USB, that sent interrupt signals directly to the CPU! no need for an input to be detected when it's punching the CPU in the face to tell it there is one
After a free game that is surprisingly well made, there's this... Well, can't complain, DF is entertaining regardless, and cudos to Editor-san major skills in making this!
Ubi Soft & EA are taking notes from this game.
when making gravity, if the collider touches the ground and the developer sets the vertical velocity to zero instead of something small to keep pushing the character down, it can cause it to be a bit janky for on ground detection.

This game makes me cry from it’s beauty, I feel as though the greatest artists would nay they definitely will come back just to get a glimpse at this. The greatest philosophers would ponder this game’s existence of why, how, and mainly when did this come to be? What is said game’s purpose? It might be to bring peace on Earth because of the price only the richest of people would buy and play this, then playing this would lead to them becoming the purest of people on Earth! Then they will train to be stronger than Goku and become the protectors of Earth, after that they would form the Z fighters!! This is when they would try to find the One Piece! That is all😊😊 9999999/9999999
I love that DF couldn't even BS at the end. He went "0" and went on with his day, trying to forget what he just experienced.
POV the Devs seeing someone bought their game:🤐🤣😯⁉️

100/100, a perfect game that taught me the importance of collecting my unhappiness.
the jump button not working is actually genius, because its a very obvious but sneaky way to pander the game time! that way you cant refund!! 10/10 would buy 4 copies
i don't think ive seen a KZreadr criticize a game so much, in all fairness the game deserves it i would rate this game "you fell into a pit" out of "screaming eternally in the depths of hell where every once in a while the lord of darkness says "skill issue" to you and leaves."
ofcourse DF spends 200 dollars on a game after a free game
This looks like something that should of come out 40 years ago.
video games are DANGEROUSLY funny /overstimulating everyone who plays videogames, you deserve what you get from doing it, (or preferably... what you LOSE from doing it)
Still better than some release day AAA titles.
It's called the cost equivalency fallacy. "It's so expensive it must be high quality or well thought out" then when a fool and their money get parted the suffer the sunk cost fallacy "i paid so much i have to use this or keep it" and the worst part is how many sales this game has.
I find it so funny how you can tell he's frustrated despite sounding so emotionless.
For a man who loves his auto-clicker, DF is strangely reluctant to use his auto-keypresser.
I honestly can't believe you suffered through that whole experience xD I would've probably just yeeted it as soon as I figured the jump button issue- As for why the jump isn't working I suppose with my limited knowledge of C# there's probably some arbitrary variable that needs to be met- Maybe it generates a random number on space bar press between 1 and 10 and if the number is 6 it jumps or something xD
The jumping made me remember myself whenever I try to make the jump mechanic first attempt
The best game of the decade
i'm surprised DF didn't give this game a -10/10 score.
I cant explain how beautiful it is❤😢
This looks like the type of game that even pirating it would give me buyers remorse
Gotta love how the greatest games are free, and the most low quality games seem to cost way too much money

I feel like this game was specifically designed and priced to tempt DF and only DF into buying it because we all know he wouldn't be able to resist
when it comes to the question-ability of the jump, I assume it checks if you are clipped into the ground to let you jump; this would lead to inconsistencies because of the collision system. This is just my first thought as I have made my fair share of questionable 2d platforming engines. Also if this was hard to read, I’m sorry, I wrote this at 1 in the morning. ok goodnight
amazing and worth the money 20/10

Why am I watching this? Eating dinner. :) I always have a DF video on during or after dinner. Rating? 8/10, needs more dragons. :)
editor seems to be a nice guy
I've never seen DF rage before, he's scary when he's mad, so passive aggy
I love it vids keep up the good work
It’s pretty nice to have to press the space bar 10x to jump, I have to press the space bar 100x
0 cost money, 200 profit, the dev won
here's my perspective as a junior game dev. assuming this was made in unity (which i'm getting the vibe it is). those issues with not jumping properly can often be caused by detecting if the player is directly colliding with the platforms, you usually want to give some leeway for this reason and have a special collider that doesn't have physics, just checks if you're on the ground. also if the creator decided to let unity auto-generate the colliders instead of just using box colliders... it can cause unfortunate shenanigans with collisions not being detected accurately. as for the being stuck on walls that looks like the default physics in full effect. to fix that you can just disable or lower the friction
It’s interesting reading the reviews on this game on steam. Like it’s a real mixed bag but it’s an interesting read.
This game fills me with senseless rage and I'm not even the one playing.
This is truly GOTY with what the price is. All they have to do is pay off the people with the income made.
Something about him suffering for once and not the game, feels fair 😂
Yo, can we talk about how DF unintentionally predicted the dragons in this game!
This game is modern art mixed with performance art. I like the way it looks, not how it handles.
I could buy every single DLC in the sims and not get as much entertainment compared to this video
Truly a game of all time. Its got many things like graphics, controls, and levels. I'm sure its got a rating out of ten. All that for the low, low, price of almoat 200$ truly a game you can look at and say that exists.
DF you make some of the best videos I've ever seen. keep it up you are doing great!
And by buying it, you've encouraged the creator to make a DLC!

Is the brown ropes not a “ladder” up kind of thing and then the green ones “vines” help you go down, if needed? Or to slow your fall at least?
My bet is that the unreliable jump is the dev preventing the player from double-jumping. Instead of detecting when the character was touching the ground, they put a timer on being able to use jump again....and set it for way too long; probably to prevent it from being used again while halfway down a pit.
You can almost taste the passive-agressiveness in his voice
I'll put this on Steam wishlist and wait for it to be -99% off sale. Seriously though, did the dev just put a zero at the end of the price by mistake?
I must confess I was totally caught up in the storyline.....specially the plot twist with the end boss.....totally worth every single penny 👍😇

I assume they made the jump button like that as a quick way to stop being able to jump multiple times mid air by just adding a cooldown or something
Is this the new cod with the movement we been waiting for.
