This farmer's pet emus love a cuddle and a selfie | ABC Australia
Ойын-сауық
On this spray-free raspberry farm in Portland, Victoria, Craig and Melissa Woods grow most of their own food, use solar power and collect water in tanks. All the animals on their farm have their place in the food web and provide a function on their farm.
Farmer Craig Woods says that his pet emus eat the locusts and pest grubs, and kill foxes and snakes. They may have dinosaur’s feet with a 'toenail like a can-opener',but these emus love a cuddle and a selfie pic.
Produced by Emily Bissland, ABC South West Victoria.

I'm so pleased to see Avian/Australian relations in such a good place after the Great Emu War.
I need more stories like this. Who would've known emus make such great herd defenders, pest controllers and cuddle generators.
Don't you just love... down to earth people...
Beyond hilarious to watch the pig just instantly roll over when his gut was getting scratched. What a feel good story.
What an absolutely wonderful story and that he has been able to continue his grandfather's legacy. Thanks for sharing.
Came for the emu cuddles, stayed for this mans magnificent approach to farming.
Wonderful story. How refreshing to see you as a farmer using animals and emus for pest control etc., rather than the common methods of poison and shooting animals. I live in a rural area and it's shocking how poison is used as well as killing our native wildlife. Your Emus are beautiful ❤ Thanks 😊
This guy could have his own youtube channel. I'm sure there's lots to learn about his farm!
You've got it mate. The life all sensible people should aspire to. Your rapport with the animals says it all. Best wishes.
The farmer seems to be living his best life as well as his animals. Loved listening to him
Farmer Craig Woods and his mob are ready-made for an entertaining TV series.

Thanks. A lot of people say to I need to post more about my farm but i need help doing that as the farm keeps me busy.
Well that wasn't even near long enough...I want to see more! As Chris Howes in other comments said - this is just waiting for a unique TV special. What a great way to incorporate the benefits of native fauna into a modern farm environment. Understated, user friendly cottage industry. Makes you want to go and visit Einstein, Goose & Wanda. Well done Craig & Melissa :)
This is a life I would love to live
Love his peaceful life ! True happiness is rare 🎉
Absolutely heaven😁That's it😁I'm packing up in New York😁Coming over😁 God bless you all😁

That was a brilliant video! I’d love to see more of that man on his farm 😊⭐️
I love this story its amazing
I am definitely applying to adopt that guy.....and his wonderful menagerie.
Loved this story. Please do more like this.
Lovely story.
Everything connects to everything with his farm
Best story ever. Thanks for posting
And super generous and friendly people to boot! A family drive one weekend, happened upon their Rasberry farm and they welcomed us straight away! Even got to cuddle Einstein! (I happen to live nearby 😊)
Great production, thanks for sharing! This guy seems lucky to live so good
I'd love to see and hear more! absolutely wonderful story.
the world needs more people like Craig
Something about Emus. Beautiful birds. Although my first introduction to them was a certain puppet.
I’m sure your berry happy! Lol
That is ideal! How wonderful!
Brilliant, thanks for making that
I loved this story ,What a wonderful guy and his farm family are so cute,I'd love to live like that.
Wow! I thought it was only water fowl that imprinted like that! The more you know! Would have been nice to see a link to the farm, seeing as they do tours for the public. I'd be up for that, and live only a few hours away.
The Elemental kingdom love the care for nature that is taken here.
Love your love and tenderness for nature and animals, but wonder how you can dote on the emus and the pig but still be able to eat the cows.
Great story. My boss has several horses on some acreage - and an emu that thinks he's a horse. If the horses bolt, so does he. At night he gets penned like the horses. Look up Colonel Mick Rizzoli, the equine king.
What a character☺😊
Thanks for sharing. I loved this!! And such a charming farmer!!!
This does put a smile on my face
My stepdad raises emus, and my families love for emus started with our sweet female, Pepper Ann. She was such an amazing bird. Probably one of the most sweetest she did, was when our livestock gaurdian dogs had puppies. They were kept in a penned area and when the mama would step out of the area to go to the bathroom or eat Pepper would step into the pen and lay down with the puppies, she loved them and they loved her. She had done other things like herding goats, and she was a wonderful pet. Sadly, she passed away after getting meningeal worm. It's been a very long time since she died, but I still miss her so much. Thankfully, we still have her buddy, Louis and he is now with the herd.
Love the old bush chook. Great job mate
He is actually quite a genius.
What an amazing, fantastic, mind-blowing example of biodiversity! I'm 62 but could you please adopt me? ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
What a happy farm.
I need more stories like this.
Good on you man !!!
Must be a great lifestyle That's cool.
Thanks for sharing

Brilliant !
Great Great Great!
Very cool. Thanks mate
Awesome!
Awesome
Well done! Great natural stuff. Do you sell emu chicks when they hatch as we have alot of natural bush land here in SA?
Great. Now i want 1.
Eyy.. beh beh beh beh beh beh!
I barely understood him 85% of the time. 😂😂
😊 Brilliant!
❤❤❤
now thats cool.
As a german I find it hard to differentiate english accents. This though... This is some accent
I was wondering in Emus had the toe weapon like kasuari, it looks like they do. Better stay on good terms with those birds, they can be deadly. It looks like they are very well socialized, and lovely animals. The babies are just adorable, living dinosaurs.
Awesome ✌️🍷🖤
Ooh i wanna meet him lol
I mean. You guys lost the war agains the Emus. Might as well initiate diplomatic cuddles.
Living the dream. Seems impossible to me right now, i'm trapped in a city, price of land is out of reach, but maybe i'll find a way to live off the land one day.... somehow. I don't think it's so much to want in life, but a lot of land is hoarded by very few people.
Limu!
he should keep a cassowary as a pet

Whereabouts in Victoria is this? 🤔

I have read this article about female birds falling in love with their care takers being a huge problems for rescues especially endangered species.
Monsanto wants this man dead
Peace after the Emu War.
Australians went to war with emus . . . and they lost.
This farmer is very progressive, bonding with emu minority 🥰
Lucky it ain’t Kevin
Hey Mate! Any shrimp on the barbie?
All sounds wonderful except for the poor guinea pig's being food for the raptors? Did I hear correctly? After having a pet guinea pig, I cannot fathom allowing pet guinea pig's to be food. If they live in the wild, that's different.
everything is a chemical, you can't work without chemicals.
See! Biodiversity is the answer. More learning from native animals and less working against them.
Need Emu Rough riders
Why is this…not promoted?.. Yet a carbon footprint tracking is the answer?.. What a joke…
Awesome story. ❤
Emu's are only once removed from dinosaurs. They've always scared the shit out of me.

I don't eat the Gunnie pigs, The Gunnie pigs mow the grass around the raspberry crop. Some of them escape & the native birds & snakes eat them.
Good man, looks like he treats them all well
