I think WWE announced the Gable Steveson signing too soon... probably just because we were coming out of the pandemic and they wanted some PR buzz. But the problem becomes: when somebody gets announced, wrestling fans are going to generally assume that they are ready to go and will be on TV shortly - and if you make them wait too long it'll start to become a meme, like the whole "Veer is coming!" stuff. If they wanted him associated with Kurt Angle, at least in the sense of being from similar backgrounds, they should have waited until Gable was ready to go and then do a bit where somebody brings up something-something Kurt Angle and some villain starts mouthing off Kurt... carry that on for a week or two and then have Michael Cole announce that Kurt Angle will be on next week's RAW to address this. Then Kurt can come out next week and in the ring he is talking about his legacy and what he did for WWE, etc... villain comes out, bad mouths Kurt, pie faces him, bad mouths him some more and is about to give Kurt a beating. And then out of the crowd or out of the back Gable Steveson comes out, Cole starts shouting in his mic "Its Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson!" and Gable gets in the ring, does a few punches and some Olympic wrestling style holds on the villain to where he is tapping out, maybe even end it with an ankle lock. Then as Kurt and Gable leave the ring together the announcers can go over his accomplishments to refresh peoples' memories of who he is and why this was significant... and then for the next 2-3 weeks they do segments at the gym or performance center with Kurt taking him under his wing and showing him the business where it eventually leads to a PPV match with Gable taking on the villain. But instead we got "Here is Gable Steveson!" and then his name gets mentioned off and on for a year or two before we really get a chance to see him do anything and when he does he comes across still like a rookie (whereas if they did something like the above him being a rookie would have been more acceptable because that was the story they told).

The Creed brothers are PRO wrestling machines. Their quick learning, strong booking and quality performances show how valuable they are. They don't deserve to lose a terrible match, one that the fans will shit on, to a trash opponent. Nobody cares about their collective amateur backgrounds enough to want to see that, and anyone who knows enough about them would expect it to be a vehicle to put Steveson over at the expense of lower paid wrestlers with way more talent.

I feel like Gable is a guy who came around about 40 years too late. He'd be a guy that would have been great somewhere like MidSouth under Bill Watts. He loved to take guys like that and build them up over time. WWE hyped so much right out of the gate a guy who needed trained from scratch. Most people don't get pro wrestling at a high level quickly like Angle or Lesnar. Some people just need time to make it click not just doing the moves, but how to manipulate a crowd and be entertaining. He may continue to train if it's something he really wants to do,

Plus amateur wrestling is the complete opposite of pro wrestling as per Kurt Angle! Kurt said that in amateur you have to protect your body where as to pro wrestling you give your body to your opponent! Not everyone can switch up real fast from one thing to another so it’s also understandable if Gable wasn’t able to grasped it that fast! But then again the Creeds did and so did his brother and they gonna be bigger house hold names in pro wrestling then they ever were in amateur wrestling! It takes time to build em! I do agree with Murray cause you can’t compare em to bigger names!

Didn't Kurt got big with crowd on the mic, not with his in-ring action? I mean he obviously was great as a technical wrestler, but people loved him for being an arrogant heel, a goofy babyface, a smaller underdog giving a bunch of suplexes to bigger opponents. None of that is directly connected to a competitive sport's accolades. It was just a big Ga(m)ble and it didn't pay off. P.S. Don't think it was his fault either - what reason would he have to decline a "big money" invitation like that? Sport athlete's lifespan is really low. Pro-wrestlers could be marketable for a lot longer. And arguably a lot more profitable. If it all went out the way both sides thought it would, everyone would benefit, including fans - who wouldn't want to see Kurt Angle in his prime in 2024?

As terrible his run was, it's still shitty of the corporation to block him from trying out for the Olympics. I mean it's not like he hasn't won multiple times and if he won again it wouldn't bring eyes to WWE or anything. Then to release him after he can't go and try out is even worse. They had to know for months that it just wasn't working out as an on screen talent. Put him as a coach to help others with grappling or something, let him take his time off to go do what he is actually good at. I hate seeing people released especially when the lack of performance is on WWE. Put him on the coconut loop or with Alpha Academy until he can figure this sports entertainment thing out. If working with Chad can't get you over and a half way decent wrestler then yeah cut anyone. But to just cut people bc they weren't "being used" has always been shady to me. The people at the office making millions every few months do far less work than anyone else yet they have job security?

WWE invested on the wrong brother! Damon Kemp is way better the Stevenson! And it didn’t help that they tried to compare him to Kurt Angle so the expectation was way too high! Maybe if he didn’t have so much pressure he might had been better! They didn’t do that to the creeds and look how great they are! The one guy Parker something with him he was compared to Brock and dude sucks but same thing high expectations! WWE should stop doing that because then the pressure is on which is probably what WWE want to put on em to see if a diamond is squeezed out of coal with the pressure but instead they Bust like a pipe! If they just let these athletes learned at a normal pace maybe WWE will churn out better performers out the NIL! Look at all these other Athletes that are in WWE have turned into stars none of em had those pressures but yet they are awesome wrestlers!

Yes he did. From the moment he debuted he was awesome and is still the fastest person to have no experience in "sports entertainment" and to debut on tv and win a belt. Everyrhing Kurt did from the start was gold. Which he won, with a broken freaking neck

Man they gave up on Gable Steveson way too early. I mean they cut a freaking Olympic gold medalist after just one match & it wasn't even that bad for someone having their first scripted wrestling match, it's not like Kurt Angle's first match against Shawn Stasiak was five stars. Cut him after one match & meanwhile they're shoving Jade Cargill who's basically the female equivalent of 2020s Goldberg down people's throats, and Cargill's almost 32 & been wrestling for years whereas Steveson is only about to turn 24 won a gold medal & has only like two scripted wrestling matches total. I mean after just one televised match his very first match, heck Eddie Guerrero broke his elbow in his very first WWE match, it's not like Logan Paul's or Bad Bunny's debut tag matches were that spectacular but they went on to have great matches in the future. I mean he has an accolade that only one other sports entertainment wrestler in history has achieved & really should get another shot, especially if he manages to win another gold medal or even any medal in this year's Olympics.
