This Evil Chemical Reacts with Nearly Anything
Ғылым және технология
Manganese Heptoxide is a molecule that does not like to exist, and looks for any reason to decompose violently. In this video I feed a bunch of different stuff to this demon molecule.
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!
social media sillyness:
instagram: / styro.drake
patreon: / styropyro
In this video I synthesize some manganese VII oxide from concentrated sulfuric acid and potassium permanganate. This compound is an incredibly powerful oxidizer that will eat up about anything organic. I test the chemical's reaction against wood, styrofoam, sugar, acetone, methanol, potato chips, charcoal, and even a high powered laser beam. Plus I try the "lightning in a test tube" experiment, which is also a demonstration of the potent manganese heptoxide. In fact I first saw that demo performed by nurdrage: • Make a Test Tube Thund...
This actually isn't my first video on the subject. I made a video about this in 2010, but I wanted to revisit the subject as I had more tests in mind. Plus since then I've received a chemistry degree so I'm able to go deeper into the theory behind the experiment.
• Awesome Explosive Chem...
Stay tuned for more videos! I'm almost finished with the video on the laser sniper rifle.

Thanks for your many enjoyable presentations/ projects! Also neat when a modern University recaptures or retains the high calligraphic beauty of degrees conferred in long bygone eras :-) . I first studied chemistry back in the latter 1970s, starting with inorganic and moving into organic chemistry... awesome! Love these now accessible lasers too! Memory fails me here, but I don't believe we had access to any kind of laser info or training back then, but I loved the electron beams we learned about and used for high-power EM/ SEM and of course the extensive totally manual UV / visible light spectrophotometry we relied upon everyday for pathology biochemical testing and patient monitoring/ diagnosis :-)

So can I try to thunderstorm in a borrow till like noon for Halloween or something or just like if I want something for decoration when I’m just relaxing watching TV or is that still too dangerous. I mean obviously it would be in a Safeway and maybe a bigger bowl to turn on the flash in effect meaning that the flashing effect more brighter and cover more area or so, or whatever. But I thnk tht it’d still be cxxl
Him “purely for education” Him also lights everything on fire
From someone who absolutely hates the idea of school, I gotta say I legitimately enjoy learning with your videos...thanks

Would manganese heptoxide make a good primary charge? Controllable and containable combustion with anything organic or carbon based? What does gun powder do when exposed to the mixture

The Styrofoam one was super cool. I love watching people mess around with chemicals, it looks super fun.
By the way, which SIUC Dumpster were you diving in to get that 1933 Chemical Formula book? I think I might go for a walk on campus like old times =p.
that was a tortilla chip
I truely hope you have some very efficient ventilation in that garage of yours good sir. I love your videos and wish you long life.

Story time! My friend Josh and I (we were 13 at the time) used to get together for dedicated "pyro days". One of the things we liked to do was dissolve styrofoam in acetone to make a flammable jelly that would stick to about anything (don't do this). Yeah everybody calls that "napalm" but in reality it is quite a bit different than military formulations of the stuff. Anyway I think it was him that came up with the name styropyro for the stuff. I used it as a username for forums, and eventually my YT account. If you follow my Patreon account you can see old vids of him and I doing pyro mischief. In fact 12 years later we still get together for pyro days!
