I’d still love to see your reaction to the openings of Moriarty the Patriot and Fena: Pirate Princess. Talentless Nana has great music too, but you’d want to be hugely careful not to spoil yourself on ep1.

No way to be nice about it. A Lolicon is a polite term for Paedophile. Its what makes me cringe on some animes...when it strays into that. The term Lolita originates in that old 1955 book Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, because it was the girls name. Its what I avoid or skip past fast in animes. PS: The Star shape is probably a rare eye astigmatism...hence why the kids only have one eye like that.

Just two small things: 1. Ais flashbacks only started with the birth of her children, meaning to her, her life only started after she gave birth to them. 2. The president had two cups of sake/alcohol in the bar after Ais death. He wanted to drink together with her when she turned 20 (legal drinking age in Japan) but never could. He still poured one out for her.

Not sure if her life "only started" after the birth of her children. Surely the idol career would also have been something. In case no one else has pointed it out- the director isn't calling Aqua precious. He's calling him precocious- which means he thinks Aqua is really smart for his age, or has an "early developed" learning ability. Since Aqua was a doctor in his past life and retains those memories, he is indeed incredibly precocious. I feel the need to point this out since I've seen other reactors make the same mistake.

I take the ditzy aspect of her personality as part of the act she's putting on for everyone's approval. I think that off-putting feeling you get watching her is intentional given all the themes about idols having to hide who they really are. Between the bits you get about her being raised without a real home and then the mystery around her pregnancy and the father I think she's supposed to be rather troubled and depressed on the inside with the only genuine moments you get from her being her feelings towards her children like her smile at that one performance and of course telling them she loves them at the end.

Just to add on, based on what I’ve learned from psychology classes it is understandable why Ai is unable to understand what love is ~ being abandoned by her mother when she was young definitely gave her an aversive childhood experience which had an impact on her development as a human ~ As a viewer that do understand the concept of love, it might be difficult to imagine ~ We take the love we experienced for granted not knowing there are people out there that do not ~ As for the reincarnation thing Luke, you don’t have to think too deep into it ~ There is no rules that states that you need to die just before a child is born ~ What the characters from the start said may have primed you to think that way

To answer a few of your questions: 1. How was Sarina reborn? : When it comes to reincarnation, it doesn’t matter what timeline you died in, as long as you have already passed away, you can be reborn. The deaths do not have to align 2. How much of this is the truth about the industry? : All what has been said about the entertainment industry is all true, and there is much more underlying issues about it. This anime has only dug a bit into the truth. At least they spoke upon it, which is good 3. The father is someone who potentially has fame, so he wouldn’t go out of his way to kill them himself. An easier option without his hands getting dirty is to use a crazy stalker fan of Ai’s (kind of a theory, if the father is really behind all this) Things you should know: - At the end of Aqua’s death scene at the start when he was a doctor, you can see the stalker went to his body, and when Aqua finds out his corpse hasn’t been discovered, you can connect together that the stalker hid his body after he died - Aqua asked the director to raise him so he can use him to have connections to the entertainment industry to find his father (his way is to do DNA tests)

This is why everyone wanted you to watch at least the first episode. Especially because of how much you like the Vtuber and Idol/jpop/kpop industries. While often not quite as bad as it used to be, the reactions of the online characters in this anime are incredibly accurate. There have also been many real life equivalents of Idols being stalked, injured, and even killed by obsessive fans. Even in Hololive there have been a few members that were abused by their so-called Fanbases for something as simple as having a male friend. While the idol industry has a bright, sparkling face, it's underside is incredibly seedy, with some junior and underground idols essentially being forced into sex work and other less than scrupulous activities. It's probably easier to count idols that haven't had some level of harassment than the ones who have been harassed. Its one of the reasons I like Vtubers more than IRL Idols. The disconnect between the avatar and the real person allows them to actually have a relatively normal life, with relationships and friends and being able to go out in public without (as much) fear of being found and stalked.

There's so many reasons to like Oshi no Ko, I could name at least 15 off the top of my head probably, One of the biggest for me though is that it is almost literally just a big "f you" to the entertainment business on all levels. With just the idol industry, it's highlighting that managers are out there recruiting middle schoolers to their agencies to turn a profit. It also shows that they're not only working hard physically by singing and dancing, but also constantly putting up a facade that is difficult and painful to do. Then there's the fanbase, and how idols are threatened for being a normal human being instead of the "ideal" they have in their minds. It's so crazy that this stuff is real and has happened for a long time, and this is one of the only series to actually criticize it.

I mean... its these creepy obsessive fans that they profit off of in the first place though. Most mentally mature people with healthy social lives don't typically latch onto idols via parasocial relationships that these industries make all their money off of. Its those wealthy introverts who dump all their money on vtubers/idols and get way too emotional attached. There's no good solution tbh, this industry literally cannot survive if they don't target this portion of the population

It's kinda hilarious how fans of oshi no ko percieve Aka Akasaka's message as the idol industry being absolutely horrible and evil, meanwhile the anime industry is just as or maybe even worse than the idol industry. Animators in Japan work nearly 20 hours per day while not even getting paid minimum wage. Animators in Japan are in no exaggeration, literally getting rushed to the hospital because of how much they overwork. While all the money generated from the show itself to going all to the higher-ups. In retrospect, the idol industry is significantly better than the anime industry. When somebody is trying to become an idol, they know what they are signing up for. They are all playing a character of purity and innocence, and most fans recognize and understand that. Of course there are many obsessive fans out there, and there are also many dark sides to the idol culture itself. However, there are also equally similar issues with the acting industry, modeling industry, comedy industry, and just celebrity culture as a whole in Japan. This is highlighted in the manga of Oshi no ko where Aka Akasaka equally points out the shady sides to the acting business and reality programs. There are upsides and downsides of being a popular idol, just like any other sides of the entertainment business. The Oshi no Ko manga is not written soley to highlight the harmful parts of idol culture, but also positive aspects as well.

You just made a lot of people happy by finally watching this episode. Oshi no Ko is really layered as an anime. I'm not sure if you picked up on it, but Ai was struggling with mental health issues due to her upbringing and thus feels emotionally disconnected and unable to love. She turns to faking a lovely idol personality to cope and try to feel. It's also the reason she had kids- she just wants to feel love. It really hits hard to people in similar situations. After watching the first episode, I could only sleep 16 hours total the whole next 7 days. The anime seems a very faithful adaptation of the manga so far, so I am sure you will enjoy it. It delves deep into the realistic dark side of the entertainment industry, while also being a murder mystery series and one about mental health problems. I do hope you continue to watch it. About rebirth in culture: Japan's two main religions are budism, which features reincarnation of souls, and shintoism, in which souls and spirits kind of loop and get "recicled" around. Its not super weird that rebirth or reincarnation would be in someone's mind around death, the equivalent christian concept would be thinking of meeting famous dead people in heaven.

Lolicon(lolita complex) is a term in anime/manga for people who likes young anime girls, or anime girls of a young appearance. Lolicon is a term describing someone who's attracted to lolitas. Lolita- often shortened to loli- is a term originating from a book about a man's attraction to an underage girl. Loli is normally used to describe underage anime girls or even "legal loli"- referring to girls that are over the age of consent but appear younger. The term is highly misunderstood. While most people hear loli and think only of the nsfw aspects, it really does just serve as a term for young girl. That's why Kazuma calls Megumin a loli- not because he's attracted to her, but simply because she looks like a child. The male version of Loli is Shota. Despite the true harmless nature of these terms, the viewing of such content is considered nsfw, perverted, creepy, and in some countries it's even illegal. My advice- don't look it up without safe search, vpn, and a quick check of its legality where you live.

@@kyowomii Lolita is a nickname for Dolores in the 1955 novel "Lolita". Then being adopted as an English term for a s*xually attractive, seductive, or precocious young girl. In Japan it developed instead into a positive synonym for the "sweet and adorable" adolescent girl. It was first used in a fashion sense in a Japanese fashion magazine in 1987. In the 1990s, fashion cultures like gyaru, otaku, visual kei, and lolita spread. Lolicon comes from lolita complex and is a genre fictional media in which young or young-looking girl characters appear in romantic or s*xual contexts. Associated with unrealistic and stylized imagery within manga, anime, and video games, lolicon in otaku culture is understood as distinct from desires for real girls and is associated with the concept of "moe" (cute characters in manga and anime). In the western world loli is a loose term since some people think it describes a character's age and others that it's a body type.

So I have a few theories about a few questions you had on this first, "why Sarina got reincarnated if she died years before?", my theory is that the connection of Sarina with the Dr was specially strong and thier souls got somehow entangled, that's why the Dr got to be such a big fan of Ai and also that's why he got reincarnated at all, he didn't had that desire from the beginning so I think Sabrina's soul was the one who was meant to reincarnate but because of them being so entangled it pulled the Dr's with it, the second "why the father didn't tried to attack before?" my guess is he tried in the hospital and failed but when he saw Ai coming back to as an idol he figured she gave the kids away to keep her carrer going, he never expected her to try to pull being a mom and am idol at the same time and just leave it but when she called him confirming the kids where with her he restarted his plan and sent the stalker, he probably counted on the phyco killing the kids too but Ai's words save her kids (last great mom action from her 😢), and finally *what the father gained by having Ai killed? * most likely kepping his reputation and statatus intact, maybe he was in a position of power and the risk of the news of him having kids with a 16yo pop start would kill that, this are just a few theories tho maybe I'm reading to much into it

yeah, I'm sure everyone's jumped on this task already, but... "lolicon" is basically just liking young looking women... in extreme cases this could also indicate an attraction to actually young girls, but... there's another name for that. mostly (one hopes) lolicon refers to one's preference in, say, fictional characters, or celebrity crushes, or even just fashion trends. I guess there's an argument to be made that it's still kinda yikes in terms of things like youthfulness being connected to beauty standards, or the way that female celebrities can get pigeonholed into performing an infantilized caricature for their audience, without that audience necessarily taking them seriously in the ways that matter. seems like a fitting piece of the puzzle for this particular story, considering how Ai's young age is part of the complicated nature of this story. in general I have some slightly mixed feelings about the premise, just because like... when Ai was pregnant, she was so excited to be able to raise her own kids. and instead she got... more fans in her personal life? granted, none of them had any control over the situation, and their relationship to her feels very sweet, so none of this is a very large or blame-placing thought... but it does sort of make Ai a prop in her own story all over again, because it's more about teaching these two fans what it's like to care for the person they idolize, as an actual person, and not just an icon. it just kind of sucks that Ai was robbed of the ability to raise children who are actually children, yaknow? and on top of that... these two left their old lives behind when they were reincarnated, didn't they? shouldn't they feel some sort of way about their actual mothers from before? I know if I was bizarrely reincarnated as someone else's kid, I'd still want to know that my current mom is okay... especially considering how hard it could've been on the people around me if I died. I know none of this is really the point, and it's nothing to get too hung up on. it's just in the category of stuff that crossed my mind... ironically, I probably wouldn't read this much into it if the rest of the story wasn't doing such a good job of making me think. something I did really like though, was the names Ai chose for them... Aqua and Ruby? that is just so exactly what a 16 year old pop idol would pick. idk, that part was just really cute to me. I also like the rooftop scene in the beginning where Ai is talking about the way idols construct themselves from lies... I think to her, the idea that she isn't held to the standard of truth is kind of freeing. nobody is really entitled to her honesty, and she may not even be 100% sure what she wants yet. she's a performer first and foremost, and this is her art. if someday she finds something genuine within this means of self expression... well, that should be exactly what this is for, shouldn't it? art as a means of self discovery? it's okay if the honest part comes later... it's a harder thing to do. I like the line where she says that there are a lot more stars out in the country, and how you could never see a sky like that in Tokyo. to me, it kind of seems like a metaphor for how that kind of bustling active environment can kind of drown people out if they aren't the absolute best and brightest thing in the room. the standard is set so high... honestly, these ideas are where the show is really doing something for me, because I think there's a lot of truth to this, when it comes to the commercialization of any kind of creativity. I also actually really like the character of the manager... you can tell from the beginning that he's resting a lot of hopes on Ai's career, but right from the beginning, that "pushover" quality made me feel like he was the type who didn't feel like he had the right to dictate Ai's decisions to her... she was able to be in control of that whole situation without him pressuring her too heavily, and I like how he actively went along with what she decided, even if he was scared by how risky her choices could end up being. you can tell that he's the type of guy who may struggle as a manager in the industry because of this, but it makes him feel like a genuinely good person, even with his very limited screen time. interesting how being a good person and making it in the industry seem kind of at odds. but man... I started to feel _really_ bad at around the 37 minute mark of this reaction. I honestly think I could've been satisfied with the kind of story you were describing, where Aqua and Ruby were born to help protect their mom and help her handle the emotional turmoil that being an idol can sometimes cause. like, the bit where she smiled genuinely at the concert when she saw her kids in the crowd? there's a part of me that wanted that to be the emotional core of the story. if anyone knew that those kids actually were hers, it'd end her career. but also, that genuine smile that everyone ends up praising her for came from seeing her kids... who she actually loves. like, even before she says it at the end, she did love them. I think she's just the type of person who had a really rough upbringing, and has learned not to trust. whoever the kids' father is, that relationship clearly didn't last, and she didn't have a relationship with her own parents growing up... it's possible that she's just way too guarded from a life of feeling like she never mattered to anyone. nobody ever taught her how to make the first move when caring about other people either, so she's learning it as she goes with her own kids. and now she's in this industry where, literally, if Ai was allowed to be openly passionate about loving her children, she could give her audience a better performance, and more genuine emotion... but in reality, they'd never let her maintain her career if they knew. the hypocrisy only emphasizes how much the world doesn't actually care about what makes her happy, they just want her to smile more anyway, for their entertainment. and the fact that she's been in this industry since her mid teens... growing up around that kind of sentiment is probably what makes her terrified that she might secretly be just as two-faced. that scene with the twins dancing with the glow sticks goes by like a joke, but there's a lot going on there. I think what really elevates the tragedy of Ai is that I really wanted her to stick around.

Kinda late, and you may not even see this, but here you go. Be aware that these will be spoilers to anyone who hasn't read the manga. The doctor (Aqua) lost his (previous) mother when he was young, which is what motivated him to study medicine. I do not remember their exact relationship, but there are more details in the manga, although it comes late in the story (around chapter 100, I think). The sick girl (Ruby) had parents, but they didn't come visit her when her health worsened. It is more complicated than "they didn't love her." All characters are very human and never really act like jurks "just cause they bad", so there is a story behind and a reason, not a good one but one nonetheless. Remember, even bad people are human, even if that doesn't make them good people.

It still describes young, innocent and ethereal beings who deserve adoration whilst staying entirely passive themselves. It dose not however have the sexualized element to it. Later it was used for pre-schoolers and children before entering middle school. Today it is used for young or young-looking female character in Japanese anime and manga without an age definition and Tombengs comment is right exept the single digit age (historically correct though). Oshi no Ko is a clever play on words. "Oshi" is a term that literally translates to "push", but is most often used in idol culture and refers to the idol (or star) that is your actual favorite. The one you'd like to give a supportive "push" forward. "Ko" is a fairly ambiguous word, usually referring to a child or a young girl. The term is not strictly feminine, but it is the more typical usage. The "no" in the name is a possessive that links the two other words. In the carefully created context of the show the ambiguous title would seem to refer to Ai, meaning "The young girl that I support" . The end of the episode reveals that the actual interpretation of the title is "The children of the one I support".

I also watched the first episode blind. The only thing I knew was that it was an idol anime and had a heavily guarded secret by the fans. Completely blew me away, now I'm watching it weekly. Some context. Lolicon: A person that is attracted to small/petite women. Asian women are on the small side. That led to small waist/breast size/short features being seen as attractive. This also came with the negative connotation of those same people being attracted to children (which is why the nurse gave him a distrustful/disgusted look). Can be used in a teasing manner or as insult/accusation of being a perv. Ruby's reincarnation: This a 100% a cultural thing. Japanese (along with many Asian countries) believe in/have superstitious beliefs about reincarnation. A person doesn't necessarily have to die right before the birth of a baby to be reincarnated into that baby. It just "increases the odds" as the longer amount of time you are dead then the higher the chances you are of being reincarnated into a different baby. Eyes: Their eyes can be seen as just an anime-ism. Like natural red/blue/pink/green hair. Cool but not out of the ordinary in universe. Ai's name: The Japanese "alphabet" works with characters and corresponding sounds rather than with letters. This leads to many words that sound phonetically the same but use different characters. For example Ai's name can be spelled with different characters, sound the same, but read as Love. This gives the last moment's Ai has with Ruby and Aqua(and her life) a new light as Ai herself had never felt love(Ai) except with her children. Finally realizing it in her final moments alive.

"Oshi no Ko" can either mean "the child who is my oshi" or "the child of my oshi", the ambiguity was intentional by the author. "Hoshino Ai" can be read as "Hoshi no Eye", or "Star-eyed", which is an accurate description of Ai, no? A small language thing I found interesting there, is "ai" is the Japanese word for "love"; however, Ai's name is spelled in katakana, which would imply it is meant to be read phonetically, but not as a Japanese word. That could imply that, while her name sounds like the word for "love", it is doesn't really mean "love", which has some parallels to her story. Side note: Suisei listed Oshi no Ko has her favorite manga last year. The dark turn the story takes isn't so surprising, when I think of that.

Not only did we all wanna watch someone die inside, but in order to watch the reaction we would have to go through that scene AGAIN and die with you! Anyway, that that one image, that..."painting" when Ai died is the saddest AND most beautiful work of art I've ever seen. Whomever drew and colored that, good lord! you were asking about the eyes. it's a representation of how bright and dazzling her eyes are. literally she has "stars in her eyes" both aqua and ruby inherit at least part of that, hence them each having it in one eye. the other characters don't see it like we do. and at the end you'll notice his star turned black, representing his shift in mindset/personality as he sets out on his mystery/revenge plot.

34:07 If you couldn't understand how she got reincarnated after her death, simply put, she time-skipped until her reincarnation. That's the only explanation I can give to you for now. A more confusing idea, for example, is if she got reincarnated BEFORE she died in her previous life. Meaning she has the possibilty to meet her future reincarnated self during her previous life. Which is a paradox in itself. Now that's confusing af. Even for an example.

1 small info about the eyes on air and the twins The star on the eye is like the level of happiness if the eyes is bright like ai eye it means that she is happy if the star on the eye is dark it means that she is corrupt or died like when ai died the star on his eye is black that because she is dead The star on Aqua eyes turn dark because she is corrupt because the only thing he thinking is revenge

so i've watched too many reactions of the ep1 that i'm immune from the "sad" at this point. i first found your channel on the reaction to ep6 last week, liked it very much and subscribed. watched your reaction to ep7, and also liked it very much. and then i thought, "you know what. imma watch your reaction back from ep1" i felt it man. i shed tears once again just like the first time watching the episode. you're my current fave reaction channel for oshi no ko

As someone who has watched and read Ai's death, that scene never fails to leave me in tears. I've watched and read many things- and I'm telling you this is in my top ten of what has made me sob the most. But I feel as if the anime never fails to enhance the scenes. Keep up the great videos man!!

You asked how does the timeline work because she's reborn 4 years after her death at 22:59 Well you should watch Angel Beats to understand that. Its a reference taken from Angel Beats Spoiler! In Angel Beats, they introduced the concept that someone doesn't have to be reborn exactly after they died

I’ve cried every time I’ve seen a reaction to ep 1 + when I first read the manga and watched the anime by myself. It really hits hard, especially with how perfectly put together everything is in the anime. The series continues being great so I do recommend watching and/or reacting to it whether or not it’s weekly or after it’s been fully released.

i appreciate the reaction, sir. i've got you covered on your questions - if not with answers, at least with my interpretations: - regarding wanting to be reborn as an idol's kid, that's just a show thing lol. - regarding ai's thing about lies - as you might probably understand by the end of the episode - that she had a troubled childhood without a father, and a mother who abandoned her, to me her personality tracks as someone who had to survive her childhood, and had to use her survival skills to her advantage. lying to agree for safety, lying to make others happy, and is scared of forming meaningful relationships of any sort. the agency president being her guardian, gave her a space in which she could explore being someone. when he - almost unwittingly - gave her a coping mechanism by telling told her it's okay to lie, it gave her a way to frame her emotions so that she could reach out to the world but still feel protected. the way i'm personally interpreting it is that she probably felt pressured to always be honest, but that tends to make a person a more absolute liar, and also more honest. so she never really learned to put on a facade - as in, she never learned to put on different masks for different situations in life (like how a person may be different at work, with family, or with friends). so the president not only gave her means to try out being a functional adult, he gave her a bit of mental rehab through the hope that maybe her lies could become truth (fake it til you make it). ai wanted to be a person with family to love. - typically idols aren't allowed in their contracts to date, so if it's revealed that they're dating, at the very least, it may be expected to be career-ending for the idol. the manager's scared because ai's the main attraction of the group, and knows that it'll be trouble for everyone if her career ended with her pregnancy - it'll end the careers of the other idols in the group, and of everyone at his agency. that she's treated as family by him - because he's legally her guardian - shows that he's also worried on a sympathetic level as a father figure would of his teenage daughter. - the eye thing with ai, ruby, and aqua - definitely more of an art thing, rather than something literally visible to others. - how did she reincarnate - i don't think we have to put hard rules and timelines on reincarnation lmao. even in the vaguest real life claims of reincarnation, it's decades away - frankly a true representation of the industry - suisei specifically recommended this one. - you probably caught bits and pieces from idol stuff you have watched, but what the babies were doing is wotagei - calls and chants, mixes, and moves (waza). it's basically fans doing their part to return the energy from the idols and increase the hype, like a feedback loop of fun. that "oi! oi! oi! oi!" from the other fans is the typical call that's done to the beat - there's other calls that are also used depending on song structure and the specific song. mixes would be chants used during the intro or the instrumental break. one part of idol fan culture is that, while the calls are mostly whatever fits the rhythm, fans may organize and customize the calls for each song, and what mixes may be used (one might say the "babu babu babu babu" is the twins' "babu" mix lol). the waza, the moves that the twins were doing, are its whole entire thing. mainstream venues may only allow calls, chants, and mixes, but no waza. uchishi, those who are actively into wotagei, maybe even as its own dance subculture, would have their own groups (some are active on youtube, tik tok, and so on). technically you can theoretically apply wotagei to any song, and uchishi have their own fun making their own art of it. - what the twins were waving around were UOs. ultra oranges, aka UOs, are super bright glowsticks. UOs get _very_ bright lol. they stay bright for only a few minutes, so you usually snap them right at the part of the song that gets you most hyped. if you look at the other fans, they have penlights, battery-powered lightsticks, noticable because of the handles. some may sell depending on a specific idol's color. but there's general penlights that can swap between several colors.

its all of these. Murder mystery, Behind the scenes in the entrtainment indusrty, music, reincarnation story, Revenge plot..Everything. Also the father did not know Ai's adress before, they had no cmmunication until she called him. He is probably some big shot who did not want any scandal if his relationship with Ai was revealed so he probably leaked her info to the stalker

The manager was scared at the beginning cause in Asian culture if you have a idol that's with a boyfriend or finds out they have a kid. Their career is pretty much considered over. The fans in these different culture places want to be the only one loved by the idols, they want the idols to only love the fans pretty much.

It doesnt even surprise you are getting onto the train of this one with how it blew up recently. As for the reasons you can see this everywhere right now (aside from ithe show having a awesome start) its a convined mix of the manga already being famous in the manga community and the success of Kaguya Sama and its recent movie. So picture this. People just finished the movie of Kaguya after it got released in streaming platforms on late March, they all seek if there will be a sequel to that, and they find out an adaptation for a manga of Aka Akasaka is coming out mid April. Its scary just to think if all of this was coldly planned...

In Japan, a 'loli' is a little girl (physically), and the 'con' added to the ends of words means 'complex', so a 'lolicon' is someone who has a little girl complex, or likes little girls (not necessarily in a pedophilic way, but it doesn't hurt to be wary). You may have heard the terms 'bro-con', 'sis-con', or 'face-con' before, and these follow the same pattern.

Btw to answer your question about what's a lolicon, basically it's people who likes "Child-like" Person. (By child-like I mean physically ressembling a child) But it can also means people that loves children (The kinds that LOVES them a bit to much)
