I never noticed before how much you both look like the police when you're together and playing with radios :)
I can't be the only one who had anxiety at you putting your radio gear on the railing over the water.
I had flashbacks of my blackberry mouse ball thing going out lol
Having a large amount of commercial experience with deploying LoRaWAN myself, this is hugely interesting to me and I will definitely be checking Ripple out.
When the baseline drops 🕺
I absolutely enjoy watching you together testing out radios and other radio tech. Please make more videos together thank you 👍👍
great to see both yours and Andy's perspectives on the same topic
Thanks 👍 I love Andy's channel, too ❣
Thanks Lewis, very interesting. Also interesting: appearing particularly during the outro, is the Millennium Mills building. It's in Orbital's video for The Box from... 1996?
Your 3D printing is 80s/90s sci-fi hand prop cool! I love that look.
I did my Work Experience at Peter Chilvers' windsurfing centre, which was on the slipway of Royal Victoria Docks. It was a blast. This was late 80's, it has changed pretty dramatically since then! I bet you don't see massive rats hanging out near the cranes these days.
This is pretty cool. Another great video in the books
I love this channel every episode has something interesting but I especially like the episodes with other people in them like this one. Off to watch Andy's video now 👍
Nice experimentation video. Happy Easter, God bless.
Wow! Andy Kirby did a video on exactly this subject. What a coincidence, man!
dude thats a business 😊 be blessed sir ❤
Great video footage of London btw, especially the planes landing at (city?) airport. Makes me want to go back for my next UK holiday 🥰
That's it.. make HIM do all the walking .... ROFLMAO!! :)
Interesting...i have a ham myself, and keep it in an emp bag (just in case, i guess). Looks like something i might add to the collection

It’s always nice to have a friend who you can go out with and do tests it’s a shame there are not as many young women in the hobbie like myself
Yeeeesssssss meshatstic!!!
I've got one of these, currently running meshtastic, it does need a major rework to utilise the T-Deck hardware, Ripple looks interesting
the problem with this is that its easy to detect because it doesnt change the frequency, theres one radio that jumps 20ms which makes it hard to locate. thats good because in a lot of countries its illegal as encrypted and without license. its definitely better than normal ham radio but its still not optimal for shtf scenarios. Great video, i love to educate myself on ways to communicate with new devices and software, great video!
Getting Session onto Lora Mesh would be great. Session messaging is one of the free open source truly disposable conversations.
These are neat!
I did my dissertation on building something similar, pretty cool :)
Im still trying to get to grips with Meshtastic. Is this just a text messaging device❓ Is it the number of nodes determines how far a message can be sent or not❓ What is the max distance you can send from one node to another❓ So if there are many other nodes placed out there can you send a text message sitting at home❓ How do you know which node you are sending to and in what direction❓
Need a wrist lanyard on that. I was panicking every time you waved it around.
That's cool, better to have e-ink display use much less battery to make the unit smaller

Yeah. I would happily pay like $300 or more for a polished plug and play product that could do just that. That’s cool. Still working on wrapping my head around all of the stuff I can do within just ham right now, but that’s an interesting concept for sure.
Very cool! Would other Ripple hardware out there necessarily function as repeaters, to pass private messages between folks who've gotten out of direct range of each other?
Just use One Time Pads so it doesn't matter if MI6, FSB, or the CIA are reading your comms. You do have to make sure your pads are completely random and that you observe good OpSec (but that's a good life rule anyway).
Great stuff. Those glow in the dark cases could be handy for emergency comms. I really like you green case. Very military. 73 M7TUD
Cheers, going to have to do a lot of watching now….. newbie question mate, so I can limit how much to watch, does this work similarity to how you’ve described meshtastic’s ‘nodes’ forwarding thingy-me-bob tech? In the video you referred to meshtastic, as if it was different (hence my ignorant confusion)
You should do a follow up video with more case options and get it sponsored by PCBway with your friend so we can purchase it internationally
There's a large case on Makerworld that will accomodate the 6000mAh battery
It is often said encryption is against the spirit of ham radio. I personally don't subscribe to this perspective, but while doing research on DMR encryption I read a lot of vitriol for the whole concept of using encryption in amateur settings. I'm assuming this particular implementation is at least legal (most countries ban amateur encryption), but would be curious if any similar conversations are happening around it
isnt that a straight up Blackberry keyboard? i could feel the texture 😂
Very cool and secure enough for many applications, but what are those aye
Looks similar to Alley Cat's case - a nice wee case. glow in the dark filament might need purchased lol

@@RingwayManchester it's a really well designed case. I use it myself.
Does the Ripple firmware allow the T-Deck to still access meshtastic nodes for extended communication, or is it a completely separate network? I did notice that the Dev has updated to an "Ultra" version, adding mapping and geoup texting capability among other options, have you looked at these additional capabilities yet?
Have you seen the sneak preview of the new Meshtastic firmware for the T-Deck that IS all self-contained? They showed it on an Instagram post... It looks preeeettttyyyyy great...!
Which antenna did you use for your Lilygo t-deck?
@RingwayManchester >>> Great video...👍
HI! this is a very good video but the CDMA&868 frequency can be generally blocked by jammers right is there any other alternative for this
I'd wait a bit before trusting my life on it and see how secure it is in practice. It won't be the first time an encryption scheme got broken by some side-channel or implementation vulnerability. Even if the individual messages are strong encrypted attackers could find a way around that by messing with the communications and protocol and read along anyway.

Or that the crypto is properly implemented, or works at all, or that the device firmware isn't hacked in-band or via one it's many transceivers, or hacked at point of distribution, or compromised by an evil developer or via 'rubber hose' coercion. Security is hard.
Have you a link to the Lily Go board and that so people can buy them?
Which printer do you have, Lewis?
Can you display the RSSI value?
I have flashed the Ripple firmware for the US 915 Mhz, but once i reset the device, it goes into a loop of connecting and disconnecting from the pc i am using to set it up. Did you have a similar experience? Would love to see a step by step to figure out what i missed. The dev just says to give a shout out with issues, but i have not been able to reach him yet. Any additional pointers? Tia
neat but with limited range it's kinda eh... need to be able to reach at least 10-15 miles.

This video isn’t about Meshtastic
So unlike Meshtastic do the devices need to be paired before they can communicate with each other?
I'm guessing Ripple is a similar network to Meshtastic? I've not heard of it before, to be honest!
The screens way to dark and reflective, needs an upgrade, Ripple has potential tho..
I'm a bit concerned, I've been hearing and reading a lot about unsafe RF levels off the mesh boards, especially the cheaper ones. I haven't heard you talk about this yet, any thoughts?

One time tables generated by a true random source are to my knowledge the only form of encryption that is by definition also genrating a random sequence of values in all asoects egually as random as the table as long as the no prior information between the two parties was exchanged in private and in person and only between two parties at most. No part if the table can be reusused.ever. This means that also this encryption method is undecipherable by any means possible, quantum or infinite time will bot help. It will merely give all possible messages/sequences. And thoae inclufe the full works ifbshakesspeare the bibble and Pi to arbitrary precision. Nullyfyjng the attempt to gain usefull unfo. Also after being used up, it must be physically be destroyed. Not merely erased or writen over with other info as that still leaves some info about the original table. Nowadays datastorage is not that costly anymore, even if in a form of laser etching into fragile materials sacrificing thre data density for certainty of being the completely get rid if the used up info. For plain texts, a llillte table goes a long way. And meetups once in a while are a must anyway.
So can it still use an intermediate relay like meshtastic or are you limited to t-deck to t-deck range

Yes, in the US it is a 915 Mhz antenna needed. Ripple and Meshtastic aak for your location (region) so it is set up for the correct band. Ripple actually has a separate firmware for US vs UK band.

Same sort of ranges as Meshtastic. With height and clear line of sight can be many miles. I have had 45 miles plus. Where line of sight is limited it is then can be far less. A few users in my town use Meshtastic and we can see each other. We are within a mile of each other. In EU and uk 868 is 500mw effective isotropic radiated power.
