It's time for Midweek Magic, the weekly event on MTG Arena where players battle it out for rare card and cosmetic rewards! Wilds of Eldraine has brought the Alchemy renewal for this week's event, so let's explore the brand new format with a deck that's going to be banned!
Mono black is poised to be the best deck in the format until something shakes up the meta! Sheoldred, the Apocalypse and Liliana of the Veil are still legal, and the Lord of the Rings set adds in Orcish Bowmasters, Nazgul and The One Ring for even more power! Coupled with Virtue of Persistence and Beseech the Mirror from the new set, and we have a recipe for eternal legal shenanigans!
In our attempt to win free goodies, we ended up going 3-0, mostly stumbling into random victories through good draws or salty ropers. Until WotC interjects, I firmly believe this deck will overrun Alchemy for the foreseeable future!

This is the only deck i see in the format. I've been playing a ramp golgari deck that plays haywire mite and tear asunder, which turns the ring into a 4 mana draw 1. I think there are answers to the mono black deck even though it's strong.

I’ve seen more diversity in Alchemy, but I’ve only lost games with the deck due to mana screw. There definitely are answers to Sheoldred and The One Ring, but I imagine there will be a banned for the sake of diversity vs being overpowered.

I played a similar Nazgul deck (but with Call of the Ring as main card draw - huge synergy with Nazgul and Ringwraiths too -- some versions with 2 of The One Ring some with none) before WoE - but switched to Golgari ramp and Rise Of the Witch King cheese -- many landcycling trolls and ents and tokens to sacrifice to it.. Now that Bowmasters are nerfed -- bit more difficult to have extra critter to sacrifice though Lord Skitter can provide - need to update the deck to post nerf state.. Not sure if I'm going to use The One Ring at all even in Golgari -- though it's good with ramp -- but Palantir of the Orthanc is more fun and it can mill cards to graveyard to be fetched with Rise of the witch King.. Beseech the Mirror might fit in the deck despite 3 black cost.. But I'm kind of planning to go Blue Green - some Troyan and Goose Mother madness.. Nazgul Decks die to The End.. Yes monoblack is quite common - but mono red aggro is there too - and I have trouble handling it. Dunno if Bowmaster being nerfed makes it worse.. They were already not that good against Monastery Swiftspears.. But without them Phoenix Chicks might run rampart too.
Banning in alchemy ? They really gave up on rebalance?

Nah, The One Ring and Orcish Bowmasters have been rebalanced since this video released. I’m glad they did, Alchemy was getting to be a coin flip meta.
