I got sent out as a freelance videographer for our local PBS station to interview and get footage of this group. Wild experience. Had a moment where I thought I wasn't going to make it back home, recorded a sermon, watched their arms & martial arts training, and chatted with the leader both on and off camera. Got really weird when we went to the gunstore where they all buy their firearms, which is owned by a relative of the leader. Hadn't seen a 24k gold-plated Thompson submachine gun til that day.

This cult is horrible in reality I will be honest. MORALLY horrible, they aren't killers man (it seems) I think that's hilarious to be afraid, you only should be afraid if you planned to start shooting or getting legally invested in attacking them.
@MegaMiniMedia
11 ай бұрын
@@thugrabbit8556 well, they did have us drive convoy-style with them to their training grounds, which was located in a 1000 acre plot of undeveloped land they owned. We drove along an unmarked road for about 10min, then pulled off the road into the woods along what could barely be called a dirt path. They pulled the vehicles into a circle in a clearing, our two vehicles (one for reporter and producer, one for me and my camera gear) were in the middle of the convoy. Nobody got out except one guy from the lead car. He was heavily armed, and proceeded to just walk around the ring of vehicles, checking into the woods and talking on the radio. I distinctly remember the typically sarcastic and jovial producer sending me a nervous text asking, "are we about to die?" Even I sent a few "just in case I don't come home, here's my location" texts real quick before anything happened. Luckily there was just enough service for us to get messages out, I don't think phone calls were working. Turns out the heavily armed guy was just checking for wild animals before we all got out and walked to the shooting range. It was a solid 5min before we knew what was going on, and with that much firepower in a secluded area with little cell reception, I think it's understandable for the only unarmed people to get a bit nervous. It was really going into their family-owned gun store and manufacturing business that was the strangest part of the day. The service was more like and economics and strategy meeting, and I remember disliking several "moral" points from the sermons, but seeing that many gold-plated firearms for sale felt like a direct reference to GTAV. I might have the footage archived somewhere...

@thugrabbit8556 I understand what you mean. When hearing the story of what their ancestors went through, their affinity for firearms makes a lot of sense. Seeing the NK communists banning firearms, then turning the country into a totalitarian regime, which they barely managed to escape. That doesn't explain a lot of the stuff they do now, but it gives context to that one aspect. I'll look through the archives and see if I can dig it up. I think I had a share agreement with content I was creating for PBS at the time, but I'll have to look that up too.

@@swankshire6939I am also against blanket statements like the one the OP made, but there have been a few. I think cults originate from everywhere though, especially from places that are culturally extremist in ideology (North Korea and China to name at least two. The Middle East has also seen many extremist groups tie their beliefs to religious origins, which is pretty obvious) Another cult that is pretty odd, although pretty benign as far as I can tell, is the Moonies of Japan (I think I spelled that right). Their religious belief has arranged marriage, even though sometimes they don’t even speak the same language.
