The Wolves top 2 scorers all season are ANT and KAT. They combined for 12 of 36 shots and 21 were 3pt of which they hit 7. The game ended them losing by 3. In other words they win if they hit 1 of their 14 combined missed 3 point shots or 2 of their combined 10 other shots. Luka and Kyrie needed to do all that just to win by 3. The first game should be more concerning for Mavs since they now need to dominate on offense and pray MN top 2 are no shows for 3 of the 6 remaining games.

Kidd got that game 1 thing from LeBron James, who uses it to get the other team to show its hand for the split in game 2, and control of the series. Played bad defense but got huge 3pt shots to keep up the pace to stay in it. They really need to stop settling for 3s though. I think Dallas was daring them to come into the paint and were willing to let them fire from the perimeter. That is what I think screwed them when it got late and they missed shots when they really needed it. They barely tried to put any pressure into the paint. There is no excuse for being worn out after 2 days off. I am wondering if they are either over-training in the extra days off or something that is messing up their conditioning. They seem to never have energy after a 2 day break.

I think what’s hard for me is that we can’t expect a game like that from Jaden again. A lot of Dallas players under performed. It feels like one we should have won and just could get it done. The level of energy each player plays with is kinda hard to criticize. It’s hard to tell what is because they are tired and what is because of matchups. It’s hard to say what needs to be improved if nothing is terrible and nothing is great. It feels like all we can ask the timberwolves to do is play harder. Which is kind of like saying I will get better by just getting better… Not the best plan if a plan at all… the most reasonable thing to me is that finch and Edward’s need to work to get Edward’s more points. Dude can only be an on court coach for so long. We need more than his defense and leadership.

Timberwolves are in a trickbag of sorts. Their strenght of wing defenders is still there, however Kyrie and Luka will beat whoever is in front of them. Luka is too strong for any of the timberwolves defenders, and Kyrie is too skilled. Everyone was complaining of Minnesota's drop coverage, thats how their defense is bulit. Honestly, if they switch it up both Kyrie and Luka will get to the rim. On Kyrie is basketball IQ is up there, in the last series Murray when he would get by his defender(when he could) his dumbass would drive into the wolves strength of the back line. Kyrie has an array of mid level scoring moves to go to, and is smart enought to use it. KAt needs to be in the post to take advantage of the obvious mismatch, but I'm not sure if he's about that life. Minnesota definately can win this series but if they goin with preconceived notions on what they will do, Mavs will beat them.

It's strange to see Ant look that tired in the 4th. Not surprised Finchy would be a bit upset; we all know the team is far better than last night. Only losing by a few points with lack of energy is a good sign. Gotta recoop and get a game 2 win. The blitzing of Luka seemed like an effective strategy only in short spurts.Just like Jokic, can't let Luka get to his spots. If Jaden is on Luka, I'll take my chances that he's going to have to hit a tough runner instead of an easy assist to Rudy's man. We should be okay with Conley guarding Kyrie because NAW will come in for him midway through the quarter anyways.

We need to switch how we play the pick and roll. You guys are talking about switching way to much stuff for a team who just played bad. Towns needs to dominate there bigs and we when easy as that.

Too many 3s and not enough driving the lane on a mediocre defensive is the reason for the L. Play like the Wolves. Not like Golden State.

They closed out Ant when he got into the paint with their rim defenders. Mavs were giving up the three, that’s why wolves took em. They were open. Mavs are better than mediocre, and the wolves are better than they were this game

@quietlike You can't abandon the paint. If this is going to happen the whole series, may as well just get swept and go home. Physical play wears out the opposition, creates fouls and spacing. Dallas was driving the paint, hence the victory.

If the Wolves take better care of the ball, and play a little better half-court ball, not jacking up so many threes, we'll be okay. We won't win a track meet, and will lose 9/10 of those style games. Bring ya ass, and some muscle, boys. Good point, Kyle, about the load balancing between KAT/ANT vs. Luka/Kyrie. Luka & Kyrie are gonna get theirs....let's get ours.

While I’d love for them to do away with goaltending (so long as it’s not someone punching up through the net or something), I don’t think there’s anyway they do that after having just invested in that tech they flashed afterwards and apparently used during the game. Also, even that tech showed that the ball was over 50% outside of the cylinder, so I have to assume that the rule requires it to be 100% out… which now makes me want to go back and watch all of the Mav’s putbacks to check for “interference”… but for all of Dončić’s whining, the ref’s fully listened to his calling for interference on that play - maybe we should do the same.

If you get rid of offensive goaltending it would completely change the game. Offensive players would jam in every shot rattling around the rim and defensive players couldn't defend them. I think it was close, KAT got big air caught it high above the rim so it looked worse than it was actually was. We can't change every rule that hurts a team during the post season (see NFL) but maybe it could be tweaked so the "cylinder" does extend infinite above the rim.

No matter how this series turns out, the experience in this playoff run is invaluable for the entire team, especially the young guys. This is the third playoff series in a row against 3 very different championship level teams. Who wants a cake walk championship run like Denver had last year? I want it to be earned. I had to listen to baseball pundits whine about the ‘87 Twins being a lucky champion for years. I trust that Finch will make the defensive adjustments necessary to win this series, but even if they don’t this is the start of something big for this franchise.

This is a dumb argument that a lot of people use. In a vacuum you can say that if they make just 2 more shots they win, but you are ignoring that if Dallas makes 4 more 3s and go 10 of 25 instead of 6 of 25, Dallas wins by 15. Dallas wasn't even close to playing their best game either on game 1.

Did it occur to you that the reason teams who played game 7s lose to teams that didn’t in the CF is because they are typically better that dont need 7 games just to get out of the second round? Dallas is just handled the 1 seed and everyone acts like they just came off an easy series 😂. Now they beat MN, and it’s because they had 2 days of rest instead of 1?
