The trick is to tune the guitar in zone 2, then turn the tuning peg until the note goes sharp and then back it off a half turn. That puts you right on the edge between zone 2 and 3. Plays like a normal guitar but stays in perfect tune/intonation

One thing that I HAVE noticed about the tuning stability of ESP/Ltd. guit's in general, is that they are EXCEPTIONAL "across-the-board"! From my vintage "the Mirage Deluxe" equipped with "Sinclair LFR" to my late-model M-400 equipped with "Special LFR"--along with others I've put my hands on--they are just "rock solid"...WITHOUT the need for "Evertune" technology. Serious "Detuners" out there might see an advantage, though...

What's really great is that you can actually adjust and fine tune how persistent the system will be. Go for maximum and you won't be able to bend a note. Alternatively, you can leave it just on the edge that it'll resist just a bit but then you can overcome the system and still bend a note. Up to you and whatever you want to play/record.

The Vipers are fantastic guitars. I would really describe it as a Les Paul (for heft) and a Jazzmaster (offset body) had a baby with a Tele layout. I would also say that the feel of the guitar is shifted to the left similar to a Gibson Firebird. The SG is a red herring, Vipers are hefty with loads of sustain and SGs (love them too) are far lighter weight wise and also you have more control over the individual pickups. The only SG tie in is a the Devil horns, honestly if you want a SG alternative, go for a Guild Polara. I have a 2006 Viper 400 which is a NAMM prototype. It came with Seymour Duncan Custom 5 (bridge) and a Jazz (neck) as well as an Earvana nut. The tuners are Grover mini tuners. All the hardware ia black. I ended up putting a black Bigsby vibrato on it and I added two push/pull pots for coil split and in and out of phase. Both knobs pulled, this guitar has a very gritty Garage Rock tone. I also upgraded the bridge to a roller model. For a few years I was on a buying kick of "what is a Tele but not a Tele," meaning the electronics are as basic as a traditional Tele. If you can't tell, I am a Tele guy. This is a fantastic guitar, its a modern player so other than a simplified electronics system, these are not traditional guitars. If you find a Viper you like, pick it up. Keep in mind it really is it's own thing, trying to compare it to a SG is really a fool's errand.

@@Ottophil Yeah, the Viper is a different beast. The only thing that LOOKS like an SG are the horns. Since mine is a 2006 it does not have the nice neck blend into the back, it is just a regular stepped joint like any other guitar from that time. I relocated my strap button to the back where you would find it on an SG. So now the guitar wants to fall forward from me! 😆 My Viper is really awesome but it is not my main guitar. It does exactly what I want it to do in looking great and sounding awesome! If it were my only guitar, I might not be as happy with it. It weighs more than my bass guitar. But I bought it because I could hear it call to me and I got it exactly as I want it. It took awhile but it was worth it.

I have the purple sunburst Viper-1000 and I can say that it is absolutely amazing. It looks beautiful and sounds awesome. Since it lacks the Evertune,it does come with locking tuners. The Seymour Duncans sound great but unfortunately on mine, the pickup bobbins are reversed so the logo is upside down technically speaking. Considering how much time I've put into it since buying it last year,it is safe to say that I can easily overlook that. I got mine for Drop D but it can handle almost any tuning you put it through. I highly recommend this guitar to anyone who wants a good SG style guitar that doesn't cost too much,is good for hard rock and metal rhythm and even lead playing then go for this thing. I originally wanted. Gibson SG Modern but when these were announced back in 2019,I knew I had to have one and I'm glad I got it.

The bridge is a Khaler (?) system made in Germany with a locking nut. No need to cut string ball ends ... and there's no locking saddles !!!!. It's like a Floyd Rose for kids, I would say. I hope to see a review about one of these CONTEMPORARY SERIES in your channel explaining all 3 different systems that Fender Japan introduced in the 80's. My gtr has the System I, great look, it's like a Satriani Signature Model made by Fender. Yep, you guessed it, lots of wild dives on it are a must to get the best you can get out of a Tele.

Tip for LTDs. They're made in Korea, Indonesia, China, and Vietnam. If possible, go for the Korea/Indonesia made ones. Those are the ones with the best quality, fit and finish. China/Vietnam ones are still ok, but QC is more hit or miss. 👍 P.S. LTD hold their value fairly well. Now, more than ever.

There are Gibson SG's with 24 frets. A Gibson will not detune if you wynd at the posts using the Gibson Mandolin String Post method, pre-stretch properly, grease/lubricate the nut slots, make certain the tuners are not loose, have the correct width string slots and depth for your string gauge and no burrs and correct saddle slots at the tail end. Four fret bends will not be an issue.

The benefit of this is never having to tune the guitar, lighting fast string changes and the ability to intonate or change action in seconds. I almost sent my first Evertune back because it was so alien but really glad I didn't. I'll never buy a guitar without this system again.

Interesting tuning system. I like how the neck and body have a smooth transition. I don't like the bolt on necks you find on a lot of guitars. You move up the neck and eventually hit a "brick wall" when you run in to where the neck and body join.

I have an evertune equipped guitar that I haven’t tuned in years and it’s always in perfect tune. It works as advertised. I don’t play the guitar that much because there’s a squishy feel to the strings that is different than a regular stop tailpiece. But if I recorded more, I’d use the evertune more, perhaps exclusively.

It came with different Semore Duncan pickup to.

@@jameslanclos568 Ha. Because he didn't set it up for bends. You can easily tune it two ways. One way there is no bending or vibroto which is super weird but every fretted note is perfectly in tune. It's good for chords or metal I guess. The second way will allow you to bend/ vibrato, and play like any other guitar. Either way the guitar stays in tune longer than anything else out there. If your guitar is in a hot or cold RV or something I guess it will go out of tune and maybe you have to tune the high e but I've had mine inside in the house with AC, played it everyday and its stayed intune for 2 weeks at a time more than once! It is really incredable to pick up a guitar and it is always in tune. It's freakin' mana from heaven. With all this praise I really need so see if I can get paid as a rep

Pretty cool guitar. Too bad about the crazy hot pickups, but replacing them with a Duncan JB/59 set isn't going to break the bank. You mentioned that the veneer quilted maple was impressive because it went edge to edge, but it seems like that's a solved problem. PRS's Indonesia factory tour shows really clearly how they get the veneer on there flat - it's just way bigger than the body and held down by a complete layer of glue, then it gets cut to match after it's installed.
