9:36. Nobody instructed or mentioned it, but that's where you can tell the driver knows what's up--a touch of side-to-side steering action to search for grip. Well done driver.

I really miss my '08 FJC that was this same color combo (Sandstorm w/White roof). Purchased used in 2010 with ~12k miles on it well before the popularity happened. Bilstein 6112/5160 should have been the factory suspension to begin with! One weekend I'm driving down 50mi of very rough National Seashore, the next weekend I'm in convoy with some Porsches on an interstate road trip (gas was a LOT cheaper, lol). Without a doubt the most versatile-performing vehicle I've ever owned. Was getting close to 194k miles when a nice lady turned left in front of me in 2019 on the way home from work. Would have kept that beast forever. And I just wasn't willing to pay the amounts of $$$ being asked for on low(ish) mileage examples now.

In another 5,000 miles you'll have successfully broken in your FJ. They say 200k miles is the break in period for a Toyota 6 cylinder naturally aspirated engine. So if you're looking for a Toyota and it has less than 200k miles its like a brand new vehicle waiting for you to take it through its paces. If your Toyota has over 200,000 miles then that vehicle is waiting for you to put it to work.

It's a fact that wranglers have the best resale value, I'd go back to do more research. Also, my buddy bought a tacoma a year after I bought my wrangler. Since then he's had a full transmission swap plus alternator, battery and a shock. I've had zero issues in my wrangler its been four years and lots of off road miles later, lots of redline rpm. Plus the interior in his tacoma looks like an economy jet from the 80's I would call that anything except build quality. The 2 liter in my jeep also makes more power than his 4.0.

The suicide doors and the rear sides should have had van style electric windows. There is a guy on YT who is trying to put into production a set of roll down windows for the FJ. His videos make it look awesome. But I'm guessing it is going to be cost prohibitive for most FJ owners.

The new branco is trash compared to the fj, if you can even buy one. Chevy never had a real offroader. Maybe the hummer but you don't see many of them left. Most have been recycled. This platform is the one they take where reliability is measured in life or death. The artic or Sahara. You for sure will not see a ford, chevy , or dodge in that environment.

It was because of the short wheelbase. The FJ is classified as a light duty truck in the US under CAFE regulations. It is much easier for manufacturers to meet CAFE requirements with larger vehicles because the requirements take into account a vehicle's footprint. A vehicle having a smaller footprint is required to get much better fuel mileage than a larger vehicle. This is why auto manufacturers have abandoned sedans, station wagons, and small short wheelbase pickups and market much larger vehicles such as full size crew cab pickups and long SUVs. The regular cab short bed Tacoma also fell victim to CAFE.

Other than the first year, this thing never sold in great numbers. Jeep outsold it two or three to one every year of its production. People blame CAFE, but I don't think this was any worse than the same year 4Runner or Tacoma. I think Toyota realized that the sales numbers didn't justify having this vehicle in the US, especially as it was coming up on an age where it was going to need a redesign.

@@skiptheroad everything you're blaming on cafe, is simply vehicles that didn't sell. How many regular cab pickup trucks did people buy after they they came out with extended and crew cabs? That's what the majority of people wanted. Same thing with sedans, hardly anybody wants small sedans anymore, everybody wants SUVs. Most small SUVs have the same footprint as small sedans, they're just taller.

Depends on the tire sidewall. You have to air down more on a load range “E” tire than a load range “D” or “C”.

I run 12 psi in my S10 Zr2's bfg's at Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Load range C on the stock wheels. Never lost a bead but then again the sand is very forgiving.
