This could End my Channel.

There's been a big change in Canadian law that has handed too much power to an unelected body governing Radio and Television. Now they want to regulate the internet, and by extension, Canadian creators. This could be a disaster for all of us.
Here's some AWESOME Canadian creators to check out. Not because the government said to, but because they make videos worth watching.

I used to like something I think it was the Canadian film board I remember seeing some of their short films , one where a camera went outwards from a rowing boat with 2 people in it and out of our solar system etc , it was amazing for when it was made (60s or 70s I think) it then zoomed inwards back to the people on the boat and a mosquito biting their arm & into the microscopic world of the human system. There was also one on two neighbours fighting over a flower growing in the middle of their property border . Canadians are so creative

Growing up on the US side of the NY/Ontario border, most radio that was available was Canadian. Through stations like CKLC in Kingston, and CHEZ 106 in Ottawa, I was lucky to be exposed to great Canadian artists like April Wine, Kim Mitchell, and the band I've seen live more than any other, the mighty Tragically Hip. I may have missed out on these guys otherwise. However, these are different times and the web has taken over as terrestrial radio is in its death throes. I really enjoy this channel and Toronto based Dave's World of Fun Stuff. For that matter I like most things Canadian. I hope this legislation doesn't have the negative effect you're concerned about. Keep up the good work. Cheers. BTW, Gordon Lightfoot is in my top 3 favorite Gordons. The others are Howe and, well, I'll let you guess the other one.

But in this case, we would be deciding on a curriculum teaching kids what they should or shouldn't do online. Things like bullying, doxing, creating fake accounts to stalk and harrass people, things like that. Granted, the definitions of those terms are pretty fluid and can be interpreted and even manipulated in many different ways. But really, I think it would be just as easy to set up a program teaching kids about social media ethics as it was to put D.A.R.E together in the 90's. And equally as important, I would argue.

As a US viewer of the channel, and someone very familiar with broadcast history, when I saw the "debate" (or really, the lack thereof) on these broadcast bills in Canada I immediately flashed back to studying the Canadian content laws and got super worried for all of Canadian KZread - I just don't see how they can do what they want with it without completely screwing it up for you guys. And some of my favorite channels (yours included) are Canadian - not just music, comedy ones like Ryan George and Julie Nolke. Shit, even WatchMojo (as spotty as they can be) are Canadian. And here in my house, the most important Canadian KZread stuff is the stuff my 5-year-old loves - Super Simple/Skyship Entertainment, who fought the bill but unfortunately was basically ignored. Here's hoping you guys are left alone to do your jobs and keep making the amazing content you make. Thanks for all of it, and best of luck!

There's always the Bob and Doug MacKenzie route. I may be showing my age a bit, but when the CRTC decided that SCTV, a show that was set in Canada, shot by a Canadian crew, and had a writing staff and cast that was over 50% Canadian lacked sufficient Canadian content, the creators combined as may negative Canadian stereotypes into a couple of characters as they could think of. Fortunately, they were talented enough that those characters, Bob and Doug, became hilarious and among the signature characters of the show. Their first appearance, however, did have an overlay about how they were being presented to comply with the Canadian minimum content regulations as they were written.

We have something similar stupid over here in Germany. If you have a certain amount of viewers you need a (word by word translation) „Youth Protection Officer“ basically someone who makes sure that your content is PG13 and if that’s not the case makes sure that no one under 18 can watch your content. You also need a Broadcasting License from our federal agency as soon as you have 20000 Viewers, and this can cost several 10k.

In this case, my impression is that the one who has no idea what's going on is Glen. Why would this decision about the Canadian KZread recommendations INSIDE CANADA have any international implications for the Canadian channels? Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know, but it doesn't get explained in the video really... As far as I can tell, the only way this would destroy Canadian KZread internationally is that KZread would retaliate and hurt Canadian channels in every country. This seems far-fetched to say the least. Would it cause any problems for Canadian channels inside Canada? Probably, but it's a relatively small market and the english language makes the Canadian content so easily accessible internationally that they will lose, if anything, some Canadian viewers?? Again, I don't know what he's afraid of but maybe I didn't get what he's saying.

Teaching of social media ethics: Glenn, I shit thee not, that is the single best idea I have heard in ages. Social media's toxicity has reduced public discourse to the lowest common denominator across the spectrum of public topics. Productive, positive channels like yours, Guitar Max, Rationality Rules, and others that I won't get into right now (because, you know, politics) are voices of information and civility in a wilderness of mean-spirited shit. I'm a university professor, and I'm going to start developing a course on social media ethics immediately.
