I'm not personally going to buy this because yes, it's a lot of money. But let's play devils advocate here... People only think it's not a great value because it's a truck. If you try to find any luxury brand that makes a pickup, you're not going to find one. High end trucks are very competitive with luxury vehicles. Screens everywhere. Heated and cooled seats (sometimes even in the rear). Massaging seats. Lots of safety features. And in recent years, increased amounts of premium materials. The closest thing you'll find is a large luxury suv that can tow a somewhat large amount, but you'll be starting at $100k. And won't have a bed. So it is kind of a value luxury vehicle. But luxury vehicles are inherently a bad value to begin with.

If you’re wanting this truck I’d just wait a year or two. With it being a gasser, and a silverado (not too many people liking the front ends of the truck) the trucks price will fall easily. Wouldn’t doubt if you could get it for low $50k in a couple of years

  • @jensalan

@@Donniec685 That's also a good point. There are little to no discounts on vehicles right now. And often have market adjustments to I crease prices. Pre-pandemic, it was easy to get $10k-$11k off msrp on a half ton as long as you didn't mind waiting for one of the big manufacturer and dealer discounts. Something you rarely see on most other vehicles.

I'm a current GMC owner. If GM thinks I'm paying subscriptions in addition to buying their truck they're very wrong! I've heard all new trucks are going to have a included $1500 dollar 3 year subscription to onstar that's can't be removed. This is GM greed and an attempt to suck monthly cash from their customers. That said, my current GMC may be the last GM I ever own. I'm not paying a subscription for basic feature that should be included when spending 75K for a freaking vehicle. I hope other GM customer speak out and let them know this isn't going to fly.

I hate anything on a car that requires a subscription service. Our lives are becoming living hell of subscription services. I used to be a gm fan boy but screw them and their onstar sub services. I'd pay extra for a one time up front fee for some of these services but not monthly. Where do they get off thinking people want this? I lost features on my 2014 Seirra in 2020 because they up and decided to make the phone keyfob app a sub service connected to onstar. And then you hear companies like BMW are looking into making you pay sub services for things like heated seats? IMO they are looking to make all car options in thr future sub services so they can continue milking buyers of their cars past warranties and after the first owner. When did the car stop being mine and something I'm renting from the car company? I'm just bloody tired of the Nickle and diming. It's no wonder people are looking to get base model vehicles more often now. I'd rather just have a basic car then gm milking my bank account 20 to 100 bucks a month for something I spend at most an hour a day in.

@@Starkswildfire1 If you're going to subscribe to OnStar, anyway, it's not really an issue and, in fact, saves a few steps during the purchase process. I think the marketing team at GMC knows the majority of their customers are fine buying gussied-up Chevrolet trucks and are similarly fine paying up-front for what will amount to a 3-year subscription they're likely to buy, anyway. I remember the days when a 1-year OnStar subscription was included at "no charge" (but actually built into the price of the vehicle). This isn't much different. Only the wording and length of term has changed. Same with XM radio.

Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Dodge, none of them had a truck that could match the features that Tundra had until I got over $60,000 which I refused to pay. What is worse because these trucks are all kissing $70,000+ that means used they'll be $50,000+. Just disgusting.

Its not just trucks, cars and SUVs are more expensive too. A lot of customers want all the luxury features of a luxury vehicle in a truck. Add in the supply chain constraints along with the basic economics of supply and demand…all of which creates higher prices. If the demand was less for buying a truck they’d cost much less. The High Country is top of line…go look at Ford and Ram’s top of the line trucks and you’ll find they are even more expensive. I’ve been a long time Ford truck guy, but just recently purchased a Chevy Trail Boss, for the features, V8 engine and overall value I found it hard to beat, so I passed up going with the Ford or Ram.

I finally pulled the trigger on a '20 Silverado LTZ with ALMOST all the features from the High Country/Denali trim level, including the HUD, heated/cooled seats, etc. The only two things I didn't get are features I didn't really want long-term, anyway: the sunroof (it's tiny compared to Ford and RAM, plus it's a point of leakage down the line) and the motorized side steps (I live in MN where slush-boogers will freeze them in place). One more thing. The way the small upper glove box opens. It's spring loaded, but not dampened; so, the door flings up until it hits the bump stops, causing it to bounce off of them and vibrate to a stop. These small details matter. Thankfully, Andre pointed out soft points (or lack of) on the door panel. Here in the US, we need KZread auto reviewers, to be testers; not just advertisers for automakers. For example: CarExpert, from Australia, and most European testers. They can sound critical, but they force car companies to do better. I had to edit this to add, TFL are doing some good testing, also, here in the US, Savagegeece, are real testers, but apparently automakers hold back some cars from them.

Here’s my take on the automatic running boards, my last truck was a 2017 High Country with them. They were great for older passengers . They were also great to use when loading small children into car seats. I also felt like they would extend the life on the edge of the drivers side seat. I drove the truck before that one for 15 years and that edge was completely wore out.

The solid tailgate has electric lift and close. The tri-fold tailgate does not. The steps work good for me and my wife since we are short. The 5.3 is enough for me. This truck has more payload at 1600#. I traded in my 2018 that I purchased in 2019. I was allowed $5800 more for my 2018 than I paid for it in 2019. The sidestep is useful when you are 5’8” tall. Even more so because I have a seriously messed up back. Not everyone is y’3” tall. I agree the sidesteps are bulky. I like the F150 automatic steps still. The sunroof is a preference of mine, but the full panoramic moonroof is very likely to be the preference of most people I understand. The hard door surfaces will still look in very good shape 1a5 years from now. Too many soft touch features lower on the door are just waiting to be damaged. The arm rest could be softer, but it is not so likely the arm rest will split like a softer one. They all use plastics and vinyls on the doors. No trucks with actual leather arm rests. Just the seating surfaces (cheap b*st*rds,,, all of them). Hahaha. You get a lot of bang for your buck definitely. Especially the diesel. I’m a Ford guy actually and if I went this way, I would get a Platinum King Ranch ($90,000 + Canadian,,,,,) instead I have a 2022 F150 King Ranch XLT level interior with the majority of applicable options, ($74,000 CAD). As I get a little older, I find the sidestep very useful. My 80yo Father is in a wheelchair and there is no way he or my Mother could step up into a truck without one. I also like the fact it slides back to easily reach behind the cab. I think the wheels are fine, much better than the Ford. The interior is extremely nice but also very durable and easy to clean without worrying about scratching the door panels. Overall I would easily choose the Chevy or GMC Denali over the competition as I think the exterior, drivetrains and price is the best. Of course style is subjective. But I’d choose the V8 or baby Duramax all day over the Ecoboost. The Dodge is also nice but I’m just not a fan of the independent rear suspension and coil springs for payload and towing.

My 2003 tahoe has 285k never broke down or been towed, tows 9k, heated seat, dual climate zones, leather interior, Power lumbar seats, heated power folding mirrors, rear DVD entertainment system, Bose premium sound, 23 miles per gallon freeway, no payments, aftermarket stereo with rearview cameras wireless Apple CarPlay, 10 cupholders, The turning radius on the Tahoe‘s and Yukons is absolutely insanely good, I mean what’s the point in owning a new vehicle yeah you look fancy and all but in the end it’s really just a waste of money to drive something that’s just going to have issues they just aren’t built like they used to be

Andre... a well presented video as usual and agree with the majority of what you said, but disagree on two things. First, automatic deployed steps on a modern luxury pickup truck are important to many buyers, especially if they have a smaller stature spouse, kids or elders. Secondly, I don't favor the panoramic sunroof option especially in hot southern climates. They let in quite a bit of light, sure, but they also let in a lot of heat, especially if you park the vehicle for any length of time. Recently traded my F150 Platinum for a new GMC Sierra AT4 and found that I really miss the Ford's deployable steps v. fixed steps on the GMC.

I would agree that's a lot of money and I would have never thought that 72K + is a good value for a half ton, but compared to other brands today with their premium packages this is better than some others. We have a 2020 Chevy HD diesel with the loaded LTZ trim that we use for towing a heavy RV that we purchased during the pandemic lock down and we got one hell of a deal and 12K less than this truck, but I love the new interior and dash configuration of the new 2022 and GM should have had this new interior when they came out with the entirely new design for 2020. GM is always a day late and a dollar short in my mind.

  • @heddingmyway5442

I mostly agree with you except on few points. I much prefer the power moonroof vs. the full vista glass roof. GM does not do the full glass roof due to electronics located in the center of the roof. You don't like complications, but you prefer the full vista glass roof? There are always problems with the full glass roof. They suffer from stress cracks normally on the edges, which is the weakest part of the glass. These are sometimes covered under warranty. They also get hit by stones flying on the road. Full glass roofs are not as safe in collisions, especially roll overs. You will have glass raining on you and the interior. In addition, the full glass roofs cost more. I also prefer the standard tailgate with the power up feature. I don't have to worry about the tailgate hitting the hitch. This truck costs a lot more than my 2020 Chevrolet 3500 LTZ 6.6L gas, which has much more towing, payload (2.5 times), bed capacity, etc. than this 1/2 ton. This truly is insane!

It should not take 10 (or more) hours to replace the heater core or AC evaporator. Those should be in the engine compartment for easy access. The dash could be made to be a complete component to come out in one piece, rather than tens or hundreds. The reliability of newer vehicles has improved over the years, but the engineering should step back and think like a mechanic...to some degree... Pretty sells...but reliability keeps the customer coming back...over...and over...and over...

It doesn't have anything to do with not being able to afford it but everything to do with the manufacturers taking advantage of us. I would like to see these 1500 payloads from 2000 to 2500lbs then you could actually use these rigs to go camping or boating on the weekend if you want to take the family and gear along you with you max out these or overload them according to manufacturers ratings.
