That musketeer was such a wild improvement, the build felt very flimsy for a while but once you got the musketeer and the mirror queen it got so good all of a sudden. I think that was the cleanest final boss win i've seen in ouroboros king. The dragon is also an oddly good decoy, the AI is willing to trade some really powerful pieces for it.

Yeah I think the Dragon's biggest weakness is that any piece in front of it blocks it's cone of movement. It's biggest strength is that the AI massively over values it lol.

If you calculate piece value based on the number of squares that piece can attack unblocked, the Dragon's value is even higher than Queen.

Pheonix is honestly an incredible piece. It is both an incredible defender and attacker as it can help open up a defensive position from the opposing king by sacrificing itself. It's not as strong as infiltrator, musketeer, or catapult, but it is a solid piece especially to start with (after upgrading)

btw irrelevant, at 0:26 he could have just moved the catapult 1 to the left and have won because the king is in check but if he moves the king the cardinal dies and he loses so that was the best move.

Would love to see this in infinity! With the infinite bird it seems like you could go far in late game with sacking the bird multiple times

We would love the infinity mode. Imagine the chaos you can bring with all the powerful pieces, relics, and items that you can have. You can also test out different builds and see which ones work out and which ones are disgusting.

Last thing I’m watching before I go to bed. Always watch really fancy, confusing at times, and probably drunk game of chess before falling asleep

At 0:26 im pretty sure he could've won instantly by moving the catapult one to the left. The ai has 2 options: 1:move the cardinal and lose OR 2:move the king, lose the cardinal and lose cause he has the general's staff thing so if everything but the king is dead, kill the king

Just so you know, Tyler, pawns always have their double-step move in this game, making them actually super useful if you need to rush for a queen!

If you are going to play infinity mode I suggest getting as many infiltrators(edges of the board piece) and put them all on the back rank. My highest score is 198

An egg in chess? This combines my two favourite subreddits.

Egg

the strongest piece is the Pegasus Rider with - Spicy Carrot (Knights and Pegasus Riders have an extra move after killing a unit, including boulders and bombs as you've just witnessed) - Royal Seal (all your pieces move also like a king) - Shovel (Place a boulder at the start of the battle) - Wrecking Ball (can destroy boulders) - Marching Boots (first turn you can use two pieces) You start the fight by placing a boulder somewhere your Pegasus Rider can hit, use any of your pieces to set off their Spiked Shield by capturing something (if you can), then with your Pegasus Rider you hit the boulder you've placed previously, and you're most probably in range (unless you've done something wrong, but this is a chess game, you should know how to plan ahead). I'm currently on Infinity mode - 173, my difficulty was 7. Not a single game my enemy got to move a piece.

Pawns are fun! When you get a pawn you can get the relic that makes pawns immortal. Then you upgrade the pawn to make another pawn. I've had a game with four immortal pawns on the board and it's a very fun build.

I only played this game once. I had a blade dancer which moves exactly 2 squares in any direction and moves again if it captures. On the final fight I captured all the bosses and their king in one turn. Doesn't get better than that

Next time, when doing Infinity Mode, get a Leper, and upgrade it to a Martyr because, Martyrs are OP, like if you make it advance to the enemy's General, the enemy has 2 choices, kill the Martyr and get their General exploded and then lose, or get their General killed by the Martyr and still lose, so once you advance it there and lock their General in the check position with the Martyr, you have a 100 percent chance of winning.

I was interested in this game, but the AI seems strangely terrible. Chess AI is a well-established field, and while some of these pieces aren't ideal for how traditional chess AI works (I'm looking at you, portal mage), it should be easy to make an AI that doesn't blunder away pieces like it constantly does in these videos. A lot of these chess variant games seem to have similar problems with the AI and I really don't know what's up with it.

Sometimes AI block with a piece because it’s forced checkmate. They just think that m3 is better than m1. This game AI is definitely not stockfish level as seen from multiple fork it blundered but you definitely don’t want a game where you have to play against stockfish. I’ve seen a chess national master with full board lose to stockfish with only a king and 2 queens before and and I doubt average ouroboros player would want a game where a single glass queen destroy your entire army.

It's probably due to no existing trained models. In chess you can just train a model from the starting position. Here you have to actually calculate all moves on each turn

A lot of the AI's seemingly poor moves can be the reason of how the various pieces and relics interact - they might have been forced to make that move without you realising it

I had to write chess AI for a class in school once, and it was a pain to debug because sometimes what looked like a terrible move was actually their attempt to stop an amazing counterplay 10 moves in the future that they assume you can also see. It could be that the terrible-looking moves are just the AI giving up because it expects to lose that piece no matter what. As far as difficulty goes I think you could take a fancy AI and make it adjustable: limit how many moves ahead it can search, so at low difficulties you can just look out for forks and skewers, but higher difficulties need more detailed plans. Though part of me does just want to see what a superhuman AI would do with some of these novel pieces.

Hey so i would like to give some input in that the marching pawn and quartermaster especially are amazing pieces especially with the rune heavy armor, since it makes pawns and quartermasters invincible and they are pretty worth in a good bit of situations but i do understand it wasn't as good in the state you were in i just want to make sure you know pawns are pretty strong, since I've seen many people trashing on pawns. also damn is this game a gem!
