This lens, being so small and light, punches definitely above its weight. I did a similar modification with my mother's Смена camera and a Sony A7, and I'm very happy with the result!

The level of sharpness is surprising for such an old lens. Plus unintended ASMR in the middle of video? I'm all for it 😌

Thank you Mathieu! An alternative: Schneider-Kreuznach Radionar L 45mm f2.8 found on Adox cameras (Polo 1, Polomat etc.) at around 20 EUR can out-resolve modern lenses (good at 700% magnification on a 40+MP sensor). It uses M25X0.5 mount and needs a flange distance of 38mm from the back element (17mm-31mm M42 helicoid on a Sony would work). At f2.8 it has some spherical aberration aka "Leica Glow" which disappears at f4, but above f4 the resolution, micro-contrast, and depth rendering are absolutely astonishing. Both foreground and background bokeh are very good (almost neutral) for a Cooke Triplet. Just make sure to get a lens with a serial number above 6.000.000 manufactured after May 1959 for better lens coatings. Fun fact - the L stands for Lanthanum which is used in the flint element for a higher diffraction index.

I think the outermost ring of the lens is supposed to be aperture, but when I turn it nothing happens. Do I have a defective one? Also, the adapter I ordered says 12-17mm, but I'm not sure if that's right. When I put the lens on my camera using an M42 to EF-M adapter, it's too far away from the sensor to focus on anything more than a foot away. And it looks like it needs to be closer to the sensor to get to infinity, but the adapter seems like it will move it even further away. If anyone else has put this on an EF-M mount successfully let me know what you did.
