Matt, I've been hoping for this video. I pre-ordered a Z9 and a couple of Z lenses, but still have a pile of great F glass. You just lowered my stress level, thanks! :-)

I Pre-ordered mine last night. Thank you very much Matt for doing in-depth reviews of the Z9. If you are not aware yet, you and Ricci are doing Nikon and its fans a great service by debunking naysayers and misinformation spreaders out there from Nikon bashers about this camera.

@Dane Thank you. I highly doubt it. I'm not an NPS member. Probably, the same experience when I pre-ordered the Z 105 mm MC which took months. I'll hold on to my Z6 II and Z7 II until then.

@@sg2923 Congrats. I had to refuse delivery on mine since I was out of town (Hawaii) when they tried to deliver it. They won’t leave it or re-direct deliveries. I pre-ordered in May, Nikon cancelled my order for no reason, I then ordered again in June to only shipped in September in which it was too late since I’m already on my trip where I would like the lens.

@@ThePinoyAggie Nikon USA has the worst online store. They have never figured out on how to do Apple Pay well. Even charging on AE doesn't work for them. I called AE and they told me that they did not reject any charge from Nikon. They cancelled my orders twice due to error on their end. I have better luck on using Amazon for payment with the Nikon web store. Now, I am keeping my fingers crossed for getting Z9 so that I can use it in next Jan. Nikon on-line store needs to keep up with today's world since their online store is failing the customers.

@@sg2923 Ha, I used Amex as well. But, the Z 50 mm MC f/2.8 went through. Oh well, I will never buy from Nikon Store as well. I pre-ordered the Z9 from Paul's Photo online. They said that if shipping out-of-state, there is no sales tax. There is a $500 non-refundable deposit, though. And I'm not sure about their Nikon prioritization versus B&H who orders in huge volume. We'll see.
I haven’t found another KZreadr besides maybe Ricci who has done more thorough “real world” testing than you for the Z9- thank you so much for all the work you put into these tests to help us realize the true capabilities of this gear in so many varied scenarios! Top content 👍

I've been using most of my F-mount lenses on my Z6 and they've been perfectly fine. They all work flawlessly. It's amazing to see the AF performance on the Z9 though, especially with those lenses!

@@2906rick Some lenses are not too bad adapted, but I'd argue that's only because those are absolutely stellar on the first place, so they're even (much) better on the DSLRs. Slowness on mirrorless seems to scale with aperture. My f/1.4 primes are ok, the f/1.8 optics are borderline, everything slower than that - please no, I'll use my DSLRs instead.
Great to see some QUALITY content on YT on the subject of the Z9, Nikon, F/Z mount lenses. Keep up the great work!
Great evaluation and feedback, Matt Thank you. I intend to keep my F-mount lenses, especially 200-500mm (for wildlife photography) which I commented (requested) you previously test with the Z9. Appreciate you including this in your next test activity and look forward to see how the autofocus keeps up with birds in flight. Your vlogs are very informative and well delivered. Matt, Great Video !!! Thanks for doing all this research & posting the results.
I love my F glass and am seriously considering the Z9. Thanks for the video, Matt.
Thanks very much for the effort and info provided. Keep up the good work!
Super helpful video. Thanks chief.
Very excited for the Z9, even though I will almost certainly never get one myself I am very excited to see which of these features and upgrades make it to the next Z6!
I have lots of old F mount lenses so this is good to hear.
Thanks for a great review!!!
Hey Matt, watched your videos from back in the , That Nikon Guy ,days. Not a Nikon user myself, but it’s really nice seeing you this excited about Nikon again.
Matt, great stuff. I have ordered a Z9 and several Z lenses. But love my 105 1.4, so will plan to keep it. Thanks!
Really helpful video Matt!
Outstanding test and review.
Great to see you back reviewing lenses !!
Great video, thanks for doing it. Can't wait to see the birding tests.
Look forward to the telephoto tests video, really enjoyed this one.
Great information Matt!! Much appreciated. Super happy to hear my 105/1.4 will be great to use on the Z9. Going to preorder mine now =)
Not going to lie, watching this was very satisfying. For years I've felt like Nikon is leaving their customers in the desert compared to Canon and Sony, but the results you're getting now finally look like good news. I'm very much looking forward to getting a Z9 loaner in my hands (in like 10 months or so I'm guessing). If it indeed adapts my f-mount lenses well , I can just buy one instead of selling my glass and looking for Sony replacements. Not that I need the framerate or 8k video, but I'm not waiting another two years or so for a D850-like Z8.

But still not possible to use autofocus on any D-lenses from Nikon & they still are selling a few of those, even 2 Ais lenses. And since in my 22 lens setup I only have two G-lenses , this new adapter doesn't help me 1 inch.

@@Spock105 Well, that's unfortunate for you but honestly not really a problem that Nikon is likely to address, now or ever, I think. I'll hazard a guess and say that the vast, vast majority of people do not use those old lenses anymore, except for fun shoots where manual focus is good enough, and the niche group of people who do aren't worth the R&D effort. Nikon isn't swimming in money, so assigning priority to tasks according to how pressing they are makes perfect sense.
Great video as always - I really appreciate you testing the older f-mount in Nikon and other third party manufacturers. I was very happy to see the tamrons in the mix as I have a few of those too. Thanks so much!

Great to see you doing this, I have both the AF-S 400mm f2.8 D II ED prime and the Tamron G2 150-600 f5.6-63 and both work fine on my Z7 and Z6ii. I also use the TC-14E II Teleconverter on the 400mm without any issues. I have ordered the Z9 and can't wait to get my hands on it. Thanks again Matt!

Hello Matt, great video, I'm interested to see the wildlife and sport testing with the 200-500mm.
7:10 OMG!!!!! I just noticed histogram and virtual bubble level in the same screen. This is one of the things really bugging me about my Z6, I even sent an official email to Nikon (US) requesting it and they said that they don't have any power over what Nikon (JP) actually does in the cameras but it's finally here!!!!! I just hope it's also in whichever Z7 finally gets a 2 way tilting screen when I upgrade.
Looks great.. Please Test on camera flash and focus assist function.. need this function
Can't wait for the test with telephoto lenses
Excellent, Matt. Thanks a lot. I am eager to see the test with the Nikkor 400mm 2.8 FL as I use the Nikkor 600mm 4.0 FL for my wildlife work, expecting not much difference on the Z9 with both lenses. Interesting, seems to be this will make it much easier to apply the Z9 for myself.
Thanks, Matt, Great feel-good video for those of us with lots of F glass! My Z9 is ordered. Could you please test Birding Photography's benchmark lens, the 600f4 (latest version)?
So excited to get a z9 and use the f glasses!

@@john-ze7eu The question was "how is that option working with older, slower focusing F mount glass". Who and why shoots that is not your thing to comment... And it is 11mp JPEG, so not much to do in lightroom anyway.. .The point is to pick that one or two photos from the sequence which really captures the perfect moment and delete the rest... Cheers

The Z9 is out of my budget but it's great to see Nikon is making real progress with the Z9 to keep up. Personally I'm more interested in the Z 100-400 compared to the F 200-500 for my Z6II but I expect (and hope) you will test it in the near future too. Thanks for your time and sharing!
Hi Matt, thanks for the video. If possible, can you shoot the Z9 with the 105mm DC and 135mm DC lenses.
I love how that guy in the alley stopped to check out Mel. Great video. I do hope the Z mount gains a 105 f/1.4 soon, which will push the price down for the F-mount version and put it within range of ... me. :-) Too bad you didn't try out that AF-S 50mm f/1.8. Of course I wouldn't expect focus to be so snappy, but that's one of my favorite lenses and I hear it's one of yours too. :-) Great video Matt.
105 1.4E is so special. It’s my favorite portrait lens to use.

Hello Matt thank you for the great videos Is that true that Z9 doesn’t have an option for 5:4 aspect ratio? This was my favorite output ratio on my D850 and most used one.
Hi Matt I have a question about DOF preview on the z9. On the z7 the dof on the photo mode stops at f5.6, and you have to map a button to see the dof at higher aperatures. In video mode the dof works fine on the z7. I have not found any details in any reviews

Mister Granger i have a question. I don't know how this works but i wonder when you use an FTZ adapter on your Nikon camera and you put a F1.8 lens on it. would it still work as a 1.8 lens ? i wonder because 1 as far as i know with a teleconverter it will change right ? and 2 because the lens will be further away from the camera sensor plus you change the mount size ? sorry for my mediocre English but i hope you understand what i mean
This was a BIG question mark for me in considering the Z9, thank you!
Excellent test and demo Matt. If you get a chance, can you also check the Signs 135mm f1.8 Art?

Hi Matt, I have preordered a Z9 plus adapter…amongst other things I like wildlife photography and have an f mount 200-500 f5.6 plus a 500 PF f5.6 ( I have been trying to find a good 600 f4 but they are very scarce in the UK.) My question is if I use my long lenses with either my D5..D850…D500 they focus well on their own but add a 1.4 converter things slow down and are less accurate. I am hoping the Z9 will improve this issue considerably, what is your view?….also have you used the Z9 in low light conditions and how does it perform??….love your posts they are really informative and easy to understand keep up the great work, thank you

This is perfectly in line with my strategy coming back to Nikon. Thanks Matt for this test on the Z9. I’m coming back to Nikon with the Z9 in mind but for now I use D3S and D3X and I am so lucky to have found on second hand market my wish list of F mount lenses that will work superbly later on the Z9 : Tamron 35mm f/1.4 Nikon 58mm f/1.4 Nikon 105mm f/1.4 Nikon 200mm f/2.0 VR2 Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 VR Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 FL I’m really eager to find a Z9 on the second hand market in the future and for now I love playing with my former D3s cameras.
