This Castle In France Is So Breathtaking… And It’s On The Market

When you were a child, did you ever dream of living in a castle? Whether it was being a princess who had been swept off her feet by Prince Charming or even a prince fighting off incoming troops and throwing them into a moat that surrounded your spacious castle? Well this dream will come true for one lucky buyer.

welcome to classified historic monuments and you have to hire qualified contractors and manage it closely. I am French and have several friends from noble origin that would take any deal to off-load their castle. The upkeep is steep but if you have deep pocket, this is very rewarding to own a piece of history and preserve it. if you can turn it into a Hotel & Restaurant of high standing... but the tourisme recovery is a long way away... In any case, taxes and other obligations are not pocket change...

these castles were very well designed, there is no problem if it is still maintained. For drainage, the foundations are very deep and very solid. At the time, they knew how to anticipate any problem, and everything was done to last over time. This is why hundreds of medieval and renaissance castles are still standing and in good condition today. In the "PAYS DE LA LOIRE", a region of France, there are around 3000.

The French government needs to buy these one by one as they go for sale, renovate them, employ a staff to create a money maker ! As long as you have paying visitors, no chateau will ever deteriorate again. Love, love this home. Wish I were rich and could afford it and to keep it as it needs to be and have some help cooking and cleaning. Also for outside work. Really would be very comfortable, if it were affordable though for someone like me. Then it could be kept up nicely and taken care of as it should be, as it is only ours temporarily, (as we must leave this earth at some point) and then we must be ready to pass it on to someone else, who truly will love it also! The only drawback would maybe be the fact it is in the water and wonder if this has caused problems in the architecture at lower levels and maybe more? Hope it can pass inspection for the one who buys it though? As that might be a problem? Wonder if that makes it damp? Otherwise, it would be perfect for some lucky owner. But you would need to be rich, as of keeping it heated etc, and keeping it up with some help as some may need to help with various workloads. What nice dance and smaller parties one could have one in a while. This home is worth showing to people to some degree without showing off, just sharing and allowing people to feel the love you have for it.

Its a great buy, but to upkeep it cost more than you think because of the humidity there. Not worth it if you dont have a passion for living in there.

This castle is over 500 years old with walls that are several feet thick. They were made to withstand all sorts of conditions. I'd say it has stood up to humidity very well.

@@GODSLUV4UNME: Actually, I have visited several castles, including castles surrounded by moats. As I mentioned, castle walls are several (many) feet in thickness and were built using different types of stone material, both for purposes of fortification and water resistance. Take Chateau de Chenonceau, for example. That's one of the castles I saw, and it's surrounded by a moat (water). It was built over 500 years ago and still stands today looking pretty spectacular. Water has not affected it. But speaking of water, you can also check out some ancient Roman bridges in southern France made entirely of stone. Some of these bridges were built over 1,000 years ago during the reign of Julius Caesar.

So much money to run them, not many people want to. Lots in various states of repair, more on the market than demand, so prices are low. You can get a decentish one for $500k depending where you want to be.

The French government would tax the hell out of you, not only local, state, federal taxes but bribing the local inspectors, they would tax your wealth no matter where your money is located at in any country of the world. The upkeep is dictated by France and only certain contractors, building supply businesses can be used on the castle. But is a very beautiful property and grounds and cheap to first purchase. Please believe me I looked it up.

We are not taxed as much as you say! Then we don't have federal taxes because France is a republic without a federal system like the USA or Germany. But what you say about upkeep is true, it is so that the historic buildings remain as they were built. In France, castels are not expensive because we have a lot (about 45,000, including 3,000 just the region "Pays de la Loire")

The thing everyone has missed, NO bathrooms! 1500's did not have indoor plumbing and it is National historic property, which means no modernization. Notice the kitchen is a separate building

Indoor plumbing was added in the mid 17th century and has been constantly updated and upgraded since and there are multiple kitchens it’s not like no one has been living in it or made any changes to it since it was built.

Even if I had the money I would not purchase a castle like that. It would be cold to live in and just lacking warmth or comfort. One needs a court or retinue of staff to live somewhere like that which sounds fabulous and amazing but I imagine the reality is far from fabulous and would be extremely isolating.
