Dude goes 6 months without a title and remains #1 in the world. Breaking records without doing anything. Sometimes, when things seem too easy like this, it's harder to keep motivation to maintain your status, than it would be to fight to reach the top. The Novak beast is made of comebacks from losses and setbacks. The game is over when he says it's over

Outside of an Olympic gold medal, what exactly is there left for him to achieve? Nadal isn’t going to pass him in Grand Slam titles. He’s won every significant tournament at least once. To me it’s partly his age, his motivation without a rival to keep him hungry, and a recognition that the next generation is finally here. Maybe he makes on more run at a slam to get to 25 but I honestly would be surprised if 2025 is his final season. Everyone else in his generation is either retired or nearly there. Might be time to admit that the fire just isn’t there as much as it once was.

There is absolutely no player on the tour irrespective of age or anything that would fight like Novak fought in matches against Musetti and Cerundolo. So the fire is still there, and it will be there is grand slams and Olympics. I don't see who can beat healthy Novak in Wimbledon, not next year, not even in 2026. Last year against Alcaraz was a fluke and a very rare choke from Novak (he had few in GS finals during his career). Plus I can bet my life that he is going to win one more Australian Open.

Djokovic at age 36 reached 4 gs finals and played 50 matches which took a toll on his body. Instead of having an off season novak unnecessarily played davis cup and united cup where he was spraying unforced errors even in the matches he won. Worst performances ever at AO, reminiscent of 2017.He would have done better if he had skipped Davis cup and united cup imo. In 3 of 7 losses, novak didn't have break points. But RG level was getting better he fought well even in the sets he lost. Just when he was back on track, knee injury happened. French tennis federation are tired of nadal and novak dominance, so they didn't seed rafa and gave him rome champion dangerous zverev and nadal got out of the tournament quickly and messed novak's scheduling in an attempt to upset his recovery time and he too was out of the tournament early. FTF got what they wanted early exits of rafa and novak. Hopefully novak will be back for Olympics

It's so sad when Novak missed years of playing in these tournaments because he didn't fall for the lies being told that you must be VAXXED & they kept him out. That was something that was a lie, and made up by Fauci, and many people lost their lives or still dealing with long covid, and other injuries. Fauci told all the lies of if you get vaxxed, you will never get covid. It was the exact opposite. I believe it was a crime that Novak was not able to get into the tournaments. That's a lot of years he lost while he was younger than now. I love how he is so kind to all the kids watching & giving them tennis rackets, and he teaches kids how to play tennis. When a perfectionist has achieved everything there is to achieve, things can seem hollow and ambition can fade rather quickly. Being dispatched from the top of the rankings will actually help motivate him. In 2018 he got his drive back after a close match with Rafa in Rome. He needs to play players who can motivate him by making him play his best. Then again, this is the first time in Novak’s career that there is nothing left to chase. In the end, there is nothing left to prove for the Eagle.

The last result of players with most weeks at no. 1 in both WTA and ATP: 1. Novak Djokovic: 428 weeks (ATP) 2. Steffi Graf: 377 weeks (WTA) 3. Martina Navratilova: 332 weeks (WTA) 4. Serena Williams: 319 weeks (WTA) 5. Roger Federer: 310 weeks (ATP) 6. Pete Sampras: 286 weeks (ATP) 7. Ivan Lendl: 270 weeks (ATP) 8. Jimmy Connors: 268 weeks (ATP) After i see WTA's schedule, WTA has more WTA 250-1000 than ATP. Besides that the reason why WTA players spent more weeks at no. 1 than ATP may be because ATP players have to play at least 3 GS in every GS while WTA only plays only 2 sets in every GS so ATP players seem to lose motivation, be prone to injury and be exhausted of their harsh training while they get as same prize as WTA. But Steffi Graf is blessed cuz no any WTA player can beat her record since 1997 so it's definitely over 30 years until about 6 years later if Iga Swiatek can beat her record

Nole was in the spotlight last year because of his historic fight with Nadal, he reached 24 slams. Simply, after a difficult season and a record, he has no more motivation, he's had enough of everything, he has the desire, but in order to be at the top level, he has to be in a special regime, which now, at the age of 37, his wife and children are having a hard time, he knows that, he just won't say that admit. He didn't do anything this season except the semifinals of A.O. and he lost as many matches as in the last ten years. Simply, at the age of 37, your body has to be in top, top shape in order to withstand the efforts of G.S. This is not in his case, and that's why he got injured. In my opinion, he can still win GS, his body is perfect, but he must be in top, top mode, but I don't think he is ready for such sacrifices anymore. I think it will be very difficult to win another 1 G.S in my opinion, but I would like to be wrong.

  • @RonnieJamesOsbourne

Where did it all go wrong? Clearly, there's some personal things going on behind the scenes. A mediocre start to the season; for his standards, which then lead him to split with Ivanisevic and his long-time physiotherapist Ulises Badio and fitness trainer, Marco Panichi. You would think a clean slate after cleaning house would come with high results, but it's literally been the opposite. I wondered that after his biggest rivals; Roger, now retired and Rafa, soon to be next, and witnessing all of this as you stand alone that this has had an impact on him in a certain way... Novak isn't my favorite player, but I highly respect what he's accomplished and would NEVER count him out.

Question: Why would you ditch virtually your whole team - that meant you won 3 out of 4 grand slams and who know you well? I felt the same when Andy Murray ditched Ivan Lendl. I would never count Novak out ever though - the tear in his meniscus though could be troubling - healing at 37 is not the same as at 17 or 27 (obvs)

I think Courtside Tennis is the most professionally delivered summary & analysis of the ATP Tour on KZread. The delivery is smooth. No pauses, crutch words - a top presenter. If I could make one small suggestion of improvement.. Whilst I don't claim to know the correct pronunciation of names - being a European I am pretty sure they are incorrect. I cringe a bit at the pronunciation of 'Djokovic' & 'Garros' in the latest video. To help here is a link to the corrct pronunciation of Roland Garros: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gWFr0dtyfr2spbA.htmlsi=2qTNbZvT83Almvq5 & here is a link to the correct pronunciation of Novak Djokovic: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dZp2m9ezj8bKd9Y.htmlsi=dy-qGriGe9up-4cA It's just the long 'o' sound that sounds weird. Personally, I think the incorrect pronunciation of names is unhelpful - it only trains more people to say their names incorrectly. For English words it isn't important - there are no hard & fast rules to correct pronunciation - it isn't a phonetic language. But names I think, are important to say as the player would say it.

I would also add that Wimbledon has a 11pm curfew & always manages to complete its schedule. I agree with the presentsr. I think if a player asks to do more court maintenance than normal (for a court that needs it) the organisers should comply. I mean I don't think the player is gaining a significant advantage with the request. It doesn't take long. The players' safety is paramount. On the flipside - the organisers ask the players to start a match past 10pm - the players concede - but a player asks for more court maintenance & the organisers don't concede. It doesn't help them gain popularity for their event. They already have crowd control issues - perhaps they should be a little more hospitable to the players' suggestions?

Personally, I think that you’re not being objective about the injury and its reasons. Let alone accusing the organizers for it. In tennis terms he is an old guy and has had problem with that knee way before that match. The courts were slippier than usually due to rain that troubled the event for the first week and a half. Simple as that. No matter how good the clay court is, some slipping will always happen. Some players complain about it and some players don’t
