    They should keep developing their DGO sensors; while all of their conpetitors go towards dual ISO cameras, they would give us another perspective. And please, keep the Super35 sensors alive! Most people who cry about full frame actually don't need it, while Super35 is still very convenient for so many applications!!!

    @@secretgoldfish as i have already stated... usually though if you crop a FF camera into S35 performances just drop if compared to a native S35 Sensor with the same technology. So no, I prefer working with the highest quality sensor which gives me the fov that I am most comfortable with. Which is Super35. The C70 performs better in the shadows than the R5C, and it has better latitude, even if the R5C is FF. Today noise is no problem anymore, the need of light hitting the sensor is dramatically decreased compared to past years. So no, we need the cameras to be differentiated.

  • @secretgoldfish

    @@CrisBaggins The cropping becomes far less relevant when cropping from a much larger sensor (the R5c is sharper than the c70 for a reason, where you can then celebrate 'natural' softness if you WANT to). There are pro's and con's to both and no real need to HAVE to choose a supposed winner (unless a Canon salesperson ....or easily-led by one), where the differences are also easily lost when considering the real world/day to day use compared to being overly focussed on one or multiple tech specs like supposed (but increasingly less relevant) dynamic range stops (and/or knowing how to use the tools properly re; their own inherent pro's and con's.) I have both a c70 and R5c but would much prefer a c70 FF (without a speed booster) to use them together in my case (I work in stills too). I prefer the R5c (despite having to rig it compared to the c70) .....which doesn't surprise me as it IS a newer camera too (The c70 is clearly due for an update and hopefully doesn't EOL stagnate like the c100/200). We still have 2 x C100's in use in our studio with far lower tech specs (like pretty impressive 8bit downsampled from a larger sensor) and they're still happily used daily, knowing their limitations. We all used to be hesitant/adverse to sensors lower than s35 .....but then learnt to see them in a less tech-obsessed/salesman/ideologically biased way when tech advancement happened ....as you'd expect them to. Today's DGO or dual ISO sensors (and the same almost tech-worship/obsession with/of them) quickly becomes less relevant (or irrelevant) simply due to a new camera release tomorrow.....with a clearly obvious incentive to then update! The same disagreements (and ideologically/salesman biased 'distraction/lost focus') has always occurred, I stopped getting hung up on them back in the CMOS and CCD endless-loop disagreement days and just went back to focussing on doing real actual work and getting the best bang for buck knowing what was more important (or less) with all considered as a whole .....and outside of a lab.....or an effective sales brochure.

    @@secretgoldfish My dream camera would have the dual gain sensor, ND, SDI/XLR ports and battery system from the C70, but sensor resolution and the ability to shoot stills and the improved "AI" autofocus from the EOS R series. Perhaps not realistic, but... Would also be great to have a camera which is easier to balance on a gimbal. The C70 handle is not doing that camera any favours on gimbals.

    As a happy user of the C70 who had to choose between that and the original R5C, it's at an interesting crossroads. First one is the sensor - if it wants to continue the c300 lineage there's no new c300 yet, so any change to full-frame or other sensor stats would have to break from that. But that's probably not a biggie now. The other one is the impending R5C mark ii and what it offers versus vs the current C70 or any replacement, and what said camera looks like will probably tell the future (or lack thereof) of the C70. If we see a R5C come out with built-in ND and full-size HDMI it cuts the legs out from the C70, which Canon has been very careful not to do with their own internal competing products Now there's a few possible things for the C70 that don't require a new sensor: - Built in wireless. It's a glaring hole in the current C70 and any successor will have it - Maybe box or camcorder profile. If the R5C is the Mirrorless-shaped future then maybe the C70 could go box - Support for CFExpress cards - IBIS - SDI (maybe) - If it stays in Mirrorless profile better photo support, which is minor but nice All those together in a new C70 would be a good purchase but probably not enough existing C70 users to upgrade; I'd be very surprised, however, if the C70 didn't upgrade their sensor with 6K+ minimum being more future-proof and offering a 4k crop to S35 or such. Canon won't cut their legs out from their R5C either, however. If the new R5C covers the ND and HDMI gaps in the original (battery life would be nice too) then the C70 really needs a complete overhaul to have a future without the R5C taking a massive price jump.

    I've had one from launch, and whilst I appreciate the firmware updates, I shoot 90% of my paid work in the same way I did when I got it. Solid log profile with Clog2, excellent 10bit image with manageable file sizes, long battery life, flexible in camera audio and ND's that go up to 10 stops (you'll need this if you want to shoot at f1.8 or something on a sunny day, a lot of cameras only go up to 6 stops). All the built in raw and autofocus tweaks aren't essential they're just nice to have sometimes. I've got my fingers crossed they don't update it for a while because I would end up wasting my money upgrading when I don't need to. Interestingly you show the C100 mkii monitor at end, which I loved, I really hope they go back to something like that.

    I've never understood the desire for XLRs in camera. It's incredibly easy to use a zoom F3 or any other dedicated amp for XLR mics with superior quality, and syncing in post is so automated nowadays that the added time is under 10 seconds. XLR in camera seems too clunky for quick posts, and too unrpofessional for high level work.

  • @danivar86

    @danivar86

    Ай бұрын

    @@CanditoTrainingHQ Because then you have to sync files in post and that simply doesn’t work for fast turnaround workflows. Some of my clients are broadcast tv and I have to send files straight from the memory card, or sometimes I’ll be connected to a Live-U. There’s no room to fiddle with separate audio in such scenarios and XLR allows for the best in camera audio possible. Added comments: I sometimes use external recording with the Rode Wireles Pro (32-bit float) for superior quality, but only when I know I will have time in editing. It's not only the seconds spent syncing on the timeline, it also takes time importing, managing and exporting files. You can't go through all of that in the field when every minute is precious.

The base doesnt annoy me that much as it is really sturdy for cages etc. I think a redesign on the top handle would be nice too and sorting the screen making it a bit brighter would also be nice it really is just the finer detail this camera needs. I love my C70 but there's a few updates I'd love to see in a Mark II - 6K sensor, helpful for delivering 4K after some stabilization as mentioned but also I'd love if the camera were a bit sharper. I'd love a FF sensor but that's not gonna happen anytime soon, that will be saved for bodies above the C300 line. - IBIS, or at least some form of gyro stabilization that can be done in post via metadata. I understand the engineering challenges of IBIS in a body with such a small flange distance (made even harder with internal ND's) and why cinema bodies don't usually have them, but with the small form factor being a bit light and the electronic stabilization completely unuseable in a lot of situations it would be nice to see. And to really nitpick, a better IBIS than what exists in the R line-up, which gets weird and unuseably warpy at the edges. - Larger & Brighter screen. The current screen is very tough to use outdoors in bright daylight and it would be great to have something bigger so reliance on an external monitor could be reduced. - SDI output. HDMI is just too unreliable and janky, I will die on this hill. - S&F Timecode. Not having this is a deal breaker on some shoots, especially paired with no audio recording. - Better, stickier AF. Sony & Nikon are miles ahead of Canon with AF performance and Canon needs to address this. Even the R3 / R6II's AF is poor compared to them, and this needs to be a priority especially in the C70, a camera made for solo camera operators. - Better Focus Peaking. A bit nitpicky here but the FP isn't super helpful in its' current form, anecdotally it's never been able to properly distinguish in and out of focus areas well enough to know what's really in focus. I'll usually rely on the peaking inbuilt on my external monitor which does a much better job.

    6k c70 with open gate would be wonderful. Also a lighter and better body design with the output ports on a better position. And fix that ridiculous bottom position for mouting plates. Also sdi and hdmi ports for slight price increase.

    Dual C70 owner. I would love to see a FF sensor at least at 6K. Sameish formfactor but smaller/thinner and carbon fiber to reduce weight. Also using the DPAF autofocus systems found in the mirrorless line of cameras. Built in wifi to avoid using dongles and allow for smoother camera control/live streaming. Finally usb c powering options.

  • @DerekYarra
    @DerekYarraАй бұрын

    Honestly it’s such a great performing camera, but the form factor/lay out that make it really annoying and hinder it from being practical on a wider range of shoots. I mean, it doesn’t even take still photos, so why bother adhering to the inconveniences of a mirrorless camera design. Just commit to being the most functional and versatile compact motion picture camera it can be. Make the side handle removable/relocatable for easier balancing and rigging for gimbals etc. Move all the IO ports over the the AC side where they belong and get the audio controls out of hiding and onto the operator side. For the love of God, give it an SDI port. A bump up resolution to 5 or 6k, a little rolling shutter improvement, CFx B cards for raw up to 120fps. Slap on a locking RF mount and we’d have a mighty little camera that can fit in on a set if any scale. I guess the LCD screen is nice to make it fully functional out of the box but I quite literally never hold/operate the camera in a way that flimsy little screen is actually viewable. That said, the touch screen functionality is very helpful. What I’d love to see is Canon offer a quality, bright, 5 and 7 inch monitor that offers the same camera control abilities, that cleanly integrates into their cinema and even hybrid line up. It’d be nice to see a s35 friendly lens with similar features to the 24-105 2.8. Like a 16-55 2.8 that keeps consistent volume through zoom range and has the external iris ring.

    Its funny how a lot of R3, R5c and C70 is on the used market recently… 🙈😆 But we just need a full frame C70 or an RF version of the C500 with 4K 120 to go with that RF 24-105 f2.8 😝 What is Canon doing.. not bringing any updates or teasers to NAB 😂 people are switching systems.. I own two C70 with speedboosters.. and they are awesome.. but for photos of sport jobs i need my R3.. and for photoshoots with stopes in the studio i use my R5C 🙈 Canon is not making it easy to Pick the perfect camera.. My self would love to have upgrades to the C70: - Full frame RF - SDI - 2 x CF Express type B cards - back designed lige the one for the C500 mark 2 with V Mount or Gold Mount

    Sony holds the patent for "stacked sensors". Sony would be stupid to allow Canon to produce a stacked DGO sensor. Another problem is the rolling shutter. With DGO it is twice the actual read-out speed. So do not be too optimistic.

    If only Canon gave their bigger brothers C500II and C300III the same attention. Instead they cut their price by 30% over night. Which cost me and my college 10k. I Switched over to Sony as a consequence. Did not regret it. In fact I regret not buying the FX6 in the first place. I could have gotten 2 FX6 for the price of one C500II back in the day and had plenty of cash to spare. The Updates the c500II/C300III were a joke compared to the updates the C70 got in the same time period. Love Canon Colors - hate their "touch" to their customers.

    Canon have honestly languished in the cinema camera market. They haven't innovated since 2020, while their competitors (namely Sony) have taken the market with their FS7, the FX series - and now the Burano. I can count on one hand the amount of C series owners that I know. For the mid range productions, producers all want a Sony FX something, whereas the higher end it's usually Arri - nobody wants Canon on either front. They always seem to be so slow to innovate and miles behind the curve - how far they've fallen since the glory of their original C300. I doubt they'll get that clout back.

    I hope Canon thanked you for this advertising page, updates are good but up-to-date hardware is better. Canon was a leader, a precursor! then Sony systematically gained ground and today audiovisual production companies ask operators if they are equipped with Sony.... I love using Canon equipment, but I'm going to switch to Sony ....4 years of waiting and still nothing, no announcement, no hope.

    I love this camera. I've used it in ton of variable situations. But my complaints about this camera are really about Canon. They've completely shit the bed in the video space right? The RF mount is about as appealing as a glass of milk sitting in the sun all day. Restricting third party usage of the mount is just needlessly prohibiting. Even with the announcement of these new third part lenses is just too little too late. Then pairing this with their other cameras are a pain since this can shoot clog 2, but a lot of their other cameras are restricted to clog 3. Pairing this with a R5c should have been a priority for smaller crews, but they don't share record formats for some bizarre reason, even when the r5c has faster media available for it! The cinema line is stale, getting outdated, and with RF mount not living up to hype, people have really lost interest in the platform. Luckily, if you did purchase the c70 and use it exclusively, you've probably had a generally positive experience, which I cannot say about their other cameras.

    It is time to update the EF to RF 0.71 adapter with a RF to RF model. That current EF adapter was great when the C70 came out and most people had all EF lenses. Now if you've upgraded to RF lenses and want a wider full frame look from your lenses on a C70 you're stuck and can't do it.
