I used to be Combat Engineer and our Assault and Obstacle Platoon used these. There was a building in Iraq that they were supposed to take down it was 2 stories tall. After a while of dicking around our operator became annoyed with the pacing. He simply drove the D9 into the building and around the center of the building the whole building came down on top of the vehicle had concrete and rebar not fouled the drive sprocket he would have made it clear through. We had to move and chip away debris to get to him. When we did he was sitting in the cab just fine. With chew in his mouth an a pretty full spit bottle. We had to go get a Mike88 or m88 tank recovery vehicle to pull the D9 out. I know they were a little angry with him about it not sure how much trouble he actually got into. Like he said though at the rate the were working it would have been a week. Now all they needed to do was spend a couple of hours pulling the D9 out in the morning and they were done. Other than scratches and some gouging the D9 was fine. Crazy cool machine.

The military version doesn't have the same noise isolation the civilian models have. The cockpits are completely different and are made of different materials. Much of the video is either very outdated or pure fiction, but they're correct about the noise.

Caterpillar also makes a D10 and a D11 that I know of there may be a D12 somewhere working I am sure that Caterpillar is working on one if one is not on the market already. While working in the jungles of New Guinea back in the 70's the caterpiller of choice was a D6 wide track to deal with the red clay mud and constant rain any thing bigger would sink up to it's radiator in the mud. Even the D6 wide tracks worked in pairs winch each other when one would get buried in the mud.

I kind of doubt you info on the engine, C-18 engines are usually 600-800hp, I doubt one can even be tuned down to the 400hp range.

That's incorrect. The CAT D9/D10 & D11 are for mining & large road projects. Open pit mines, large interchange profiling & just pushing a lot of dirt/sand/rock or used to feed burrowed hoppers at power plants. This size of dozer requires special state road access permits to just transport & probably very limited to crossing overpasses/bridges. Which is why a Construction Co., given a particular job will use the Medium Dozer series, not the Large. Just depends on what unit is more economically feasible. The cost of transport must be factored into the contractor's quote.

D9 is an American engineered and patented and manufactured. Israel modifies it to suit its need ! Modifications maybe done through permission from the D9 manufacturer.

The Mfr's. don't refer to this type of machine as a "Bulldozer". That's your intuition showing, stop it. CAT for one refers to the D9 as a large track dozer. There are also wheeled dozers as well. Besides the armament the IDF installs on their D9's, I'd like to see a laser added as well. Might be better to intercept missiles. I think the jamming radar is fine but if troops are in the area, the jammed missile won't hit the D9 but could fall among the ground troops.
