Hey all, just wanted to let you know I'll be trying to stream on a bit of a schedule again for the next few weeks! Current schedule is Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday 3 to 6 PM CET. (Might stream a bit earlier this week because of a tournament going on) Mostly checking if there's interest in some livestreams in addition to the YT content :) www.twitch.tv/uthermalsc2

ok so here's a whacky patch idea that you can add to the list of crazy patch ideas for your next one of those vids/streams you do: what if terran buildings that fly could 'crunch' a SINGLE unit (closest to center of building), by landing on it? i know about this and brood war i played it alot back in the day, but that was when the engineering bay could fly. the 'crunch' would cost 50 orbital energy, or whatever supply addons cost, and it would go with the building blocking vibe from terran. since the supply depots are smaller now i dont feel as much of the sim city with terran, this could make it an active footsie to play with any proxy. when a building is flying, you're not producing a unit from a unit producing building (those are the only ones that fly), so its only strong with a particular play and follow up, situation, etc.. if there are other units underneath the 'crunching' building, the ones, aside from the closest, 'crunched' unit, would be pushed outwards in all directions, like a grenade or force field basically. you could either have small splash damage or none at all for them, that would require some balance testing probably, but just default to no damage. 'crunching' equals instant death, obviously. so without orbital energy it just says 'cant land here', but if you set the building exactly where you wanted, you could orbital call down, 'ballistic foundational alignment', or whatever you wanted to call it. cc crunch calldown, who cares. maybe make it an upgrade from the eng bay like turret range but i dont see it being strong enough to warrant an upgarde, maybe 50/50 like warp gates or something to provide some difficulty with build syncopation. i dunno i got millions of these so i'll try to make a list of my hair brained schemes for next time. love the content, pf rush is a lifestyle choice and you've chosen well sir. have a good one. (edit): it would also seemingly help mech terran, instead of flying that useless barracks around it could be a blocker for your mech force. i seriously think this is a not bad change but maybe im missing something

You really need to load SCVs in the command center before you fly it in, so you can repair it while upgrading, you can also load your SCVs into the planetary to keep them safe while the planetary doesn't need repairs. I really want to see scv load micro in this challenge.

I really want to see a flying line of CC's at one point during this challenge... like sending out 10-12 CC's just to try and land them in the enemy base. Or better, to block every single expansion for the opponent. If you manage this, you have to say: "All your base are belong to us".

    1. This challenge is hilarious and I can't wait to see more. 2. Please load some SCVs in the command centre when flying in so it lasts longer. Or maybe try 1 SCV and 4 marines so you can also build a bunker with it. 3. If you think you spot an opponent hesitate, please check the replay from their POV to when they noticed the PF. It would've been great to see the Protoss POV as, like you said, his reaction was incredibly slow, so it would've been nice to see what he was looking at on that one.

Hey Thermal. I wasn't sure if there was a proper place to put this, but I saw in another video that you were considering trying challenges for other races. My idea is simple: Block expansions. I know as Protoss, especially vs Zerg, pylon blocking the natural is pretty common. What I always wondered was "what if you had a second probe block the third also?" You could keep canceling pylons at 99% to keep switching which location is being blocked. If a Zerg was going hatch first, I thought it would be pretty disruptive, but you could always scout with the probe to make sure it's not pool first. Against pool first Zergs, as well as Terran or Protoss, I imagine delaying the expansion with probe harass/pylon and going into DT harass would then enable you to spread DTs to their potential expansion locations so they can't just send a worker there, but need detection instead to chase the DT away. It seems like it would be a challenging and interesting way to try to get an advantage.

Incredibly entertaining stuff again Uth & an exciting new challenge. I was previously going to suggest - since you asked for ideas - a "contain" challenge where u try to hold them to two base for as long as possible, and backwards mine out their bases while doing so, & perhaps build a lot of your production on the map. Eg two rax marine rush into PF camping the natural like in the last game, while perhaps also building tanks & vikings on location behind it while taking their 3-5th and mining them out. This challenge could be perfect for trying that out. A diamond terran i always lose to likes to build PFs on my 4th and 5th (either side of my 3rd), and build rax & factories on location to defend with tank widow mine bunkered marined next to PFs, and run marines, tanks, thors & marines into my 2nd & 3rd, while doing proxy marine rush and BC to keep me busy dealing with all kinds of harassment. He defends his main with turrets BC tank and also has production out on the map on location. He then backwards expands and mines out all my bases. Somehow I can't seem to deny him doing it even though I know exactly how he plays. He gets insane map control and harassment potential. It might not work beyond the diamond leagues but the games but I'd love to see someone with your skill/mechanics try it out. Another idea is something Florencio likes to do - build a PF on your opponent's 4th or 5th, and go BC; u can jump your BCs out for nearby repair, and camp it with with tanks, widow mines & turrets. Always a lot of fun. Just my 2c as you asked for suggestions. I'm sure whatever direction you decided to take it will be best & will make for an exciting series.

I really like the form of restriction that comes with a rush challenge. There's nothing forbidden, you can make however many of whatever unit you want. It's just that you have to do a special objective. Of course, it's not like "take the watchtower once", it's a very costly objective, because it's a rush so you have to do it early on, and it's a significant think like making a planetary. Still though, I find something satisfying about watching you unrestricted and attempting something bizarre. I wish this run isn't thwarted too badly from opponents recognizing your ID, and a happy new year.

Vs Toss or Zerg - I'd quite like to see a delayed PF-Rush strategy on their 3rd (or even 4th, with support) - If you scout them and can guess their expansion timings, you can start to build a CC on the map just to the side of where they are about to expand, and they won't be able to see it because Nexus warping in or a hatchery growing has very very small vision range. Just make sure you're far enough away and that you start building before they do. When it's ready, if you time it right, you can pick up, float just a few seconds further towards their own expand, then place it down and immediately start transforming into PF. They still wont be able to see you because a PF has further range than the vision range of a Nexus warping in or a growing hatchery. They only get expanded vision when the structure completes. And by then it's too late - they will see a fully made CC already in the process of transforming into a PF. And they won't be able to cancel, either. The base will immediately become under attack, and they'l lose it. I realise your investment is still more than their investment is, but it will be pretty funny. And if you can defend it you're still slowing them down a lot and permanently blocking that expand option. VS Zerg this is probably the only way to get one close enough to a hatchery without creep blocking you from being able to land.

22:00 16 is the supposed peak efficiency but we tested it years ago and you don't actually lose appreciable efficiency until you have 19+ on minerals. Probably due to the worker AI not having perfect pathing. Also you said they keep contributing until you have 20, it's actually 24 when adding any more workers stops having any effect, but that part is common knowledge.

  • @hangover89
    @hangover89 Жыл бұрын

Something you could do instead (speaking as someone who got this done to me) is if you're not able to fully land in his base due to them noticing and a worker going under the CC to prevent it from landing, instead park it a little ways away from his main, and float in a factory and make siege tanks. Planetary protects the tanks, tanks kill the main. This works against zerg well because you can't land close enough to target the hatchery because of creep

A trick I have seen to build proxy buildings in an opponent's main is to stack two workers on top of each other then send them across so they just look like a single worker if they don't check them, then in the enemy base where they don't have vision you split one off to go build while the other scouts then leaves to make everything look normal

What I'd like to see with this series is COMPLETE control of the opponent. Box him in : multiple planetary fortresses, turrets, bunkers, siege tanks, liberators, ghosts. Make it as painful as possible to get out of his base; find some defensive positions that gives you the edge so that he has to spend so much ressources that it's not worth it. Plan for the long game, always. Make it into a war of attrition. We might get less games per video, but it'll be just as entertaining to watch the opponent cry out.

I suggested this on an older video, but I'll suggest it again on this fresh video: What do you think about a Sneaky Boys to GM? All the cloaking units. You can of course do a reaper scout and a few Marines for defense in early game. I'd also think one or two defensive Ravens without upgrades that just patrol for detection purposes would be okay, but they don't get upgrades. you don't *have* to build all the cloaking units in a game, like you can skip ghosts if you want. Regardless, you cannot make medivacs. My goal is to see you Wraith and Banshee while cloaked.

Since you asked. I would like to see a timing were the planetary fortress upgrades armor just as it lands and at least four SCVs jump out and begin repairs. This forces enemy units to take damage as they target down SCV's, if they do just start producing more. They should be out in time to resume repairs. If there are air units in production consider starting a missile turret with your scvs, as well as using them to attack enemy workers. In my humble opinion if you can't keep the Fortress alive long enough to take down at least two structures, it's more of a distraction than a true planetary rush.

I remember watching a bronze league hero episode with a proxy PF, but never in my wildest dreams I thought I would've seen it happen in this age/MMR. you are awesome, as PIG said :)

I like that last strat with the defensive wall outside their base. The one thing I think that I would like to see you try would be building those turrets on the edges outside their base so they can't get anything out. Depending on the map this would also make it safer to get high yield and golden bases.

So one thing that can work in TvZ is a 2-base planetary contain with building armor, bunkers and proxy factory building tanks. In TvP my fav is to go in with 3 SCVs in the CC, a reaper and a barracks.

I think the big buffs to cyclone would assist with a planetary rush especially where you land in their base, or even on the way to land in their base. That would be giving you vision, and maybe a couple mule drops to repair the planetary.

My opponent is floating command centers into my main and turning them into planetary fortresses. How do I defend against this? ChatGPT: One way to defend against your opponent's floating command centers and planetary fortresses is to use air units to attack them. Air units like Void Rays and Phoenixes are good at dealing damage to flying units, and they can help you take out your opponent's command centers before they can be turned into planetary fortresses. You can also use ground units like Stalkers and Immortals to attack the planetary fortresses once they are in place. Another strategy you can use is to use defensive structures like Photon Cannons and Missile Turrets to help protect your main base. These structures are good at taking out flying units, and they can help you defend against your opponent's floating command centers. You can also use units like High Templars and Colossi to attack the planetary fortresses from a distance, which can help you keep your units safe from enemy fire. Finally, you can try to counter your opponent's strategy by building your own planetary fortresses and floating them into your opponent's main base. This can help you take control of the battlefield and put pressure on your opponent. You can also use units like Ravens and Vikings to help defend your own floating command centers and planetary fortresses. Overall, the key to defending against your opponent's floating command centers and planetary fortresses is to use a combination of air units, ground units, defensive structures, and counter-attacks to keep them at bay and protect your main base.

Hey man, I'm a huge noob when it comes to SC2 (beat the campaign on hard, but not good enough to pvp). I used to watch Day[9] a lot back in the day but really just drifted away from the game. really happy to have stumbled across your content. ive been watching your stuff pretty regularly now and really appreciate your commentary and the amazing ideas you have for challenges. I love the idea for this and really look forward to more episodes of this.

I actually saw someone do a PF rush in diamond 1 which looked very strong. What he did is he proxied his factory and sent reapers and mines in constantly to clear space and push against his protoss opponent. This was in one of PiG's smooth brain submissions. I don't remember if he had an armory or not for the mines though I'd figure that'd be pretty strong to. Perhaps tanks might be better though.

Hey Uther, been loving your videos recently, I don't play sc2 anymore but your vids are very entertaining. I only played zerg when I played sc2 and I loved some good cheeses, particularly nydus shenanigans (nydus only series at some point??). I heard you are always looking for new ideas and trying new things on youtube, what if you tried adding both you and your opponents APM to the top left corner in post. So basically, you play the game and commentate as normal, then while editing the video, you just record the APM and edit it in? Maybe too much work, but it could be interesting/fun to see spikes in the opponents APM as you get closer to GM and wonder what they are up to that could make them increase the APM? Regardless, keep it up, it's been awesome! Also, PF into enemy natural into proxy factory could be wacky!
