Gm could produce that engine for a few hundred dollars. GM could produce the Iron Duke 4 cylinder for literally $100 at one point. For years you could buy a brand new GM Goodwrench 350 Chevy that was complete with oil pan and valve covers for $600 bucks full retail which means it cost GM maybe, what, $150 to $200 to produce?

Had they not discontinued it they probably would have used the 3800 in the current Silverado as an engine choice instead of a 4 cylinder not only that GM could've had their own equivalent to Ford's EcoBoost in V6 configuration.

Trust me, you have heard of Henry Mancini. He is one of the most prolific composers of the 20th century. The theme from the Pink Panther, A Summer Place, Moon River, Late night with Dave Letterman, and a lot of tunes you know but want to forget ( elevator music) Mancini touched everyone's ear whether they know it or not.

When I was a little boy, I would blow my lips to imitate engines and the GM 3800 V6 was one of my favorites to imitate. It had this throaty snarl even at lower speeds taking off. Some of the neighborhood children thought I was weird LOL but they didn't understand my love for cars. It's funny cause some of the adults did. The W-Body is like the late 1980s/1990s mall parking lot car. Oh, how I miss those days.

It's been through 4 deer and a guard rail, keep this car man, it won't let you down. Way better then the 2004 pt cruiser I used to drive, I love this car and have no plans getting rid of it. The 3800 series III is the best engine GM ever made, because it solved the 1 main problem on the series II - the composite (plastic) upper intake plenum. In twenty to twenty five years from now there will be someone writing or making a video about how the cars from 2020 are the best cheap cars you can buy. We poke fun at senior drivers for driving slow and mostly not driving more than just a couple of thousand miles a year - meanwhile we hope to be the winning bidder on their over maintained and extremely well preserved car when they can no longer drive. Unused, garaged, non-smoker, highly maintained cars will always be the best cheap car you can buy. Those W-body cars were not known for reliability when new, they had their fair share of issues and ranked low in customer surveys. The hard part about cheap cars is finding one that was lovingly cared for and not driven, doesn’t matter the brand or model.

You could get 10 grand or nore for that car with the prices of used cars right now. I bought my mom an 1989 Riveria back in 1998. She had it until she stopped driving in 2015. Her Buick had the series 1 3800 it was practically trouble free and only had a timing sensor fail over the 18k miles she drove it. I bought it with 72k for 4000 and sold it for 2000 with 90k. These 3800 motors go well over 200k miles.

What a nice simple car. My grand father had a white 94 cutlass Supreme (pimped out with a maroon carriage roof) with the lowly 3.1L. It was still smooth and nice and a joy to drive. Not going to impress anyone except for the owner every time they drive it!

Dude, a white Cutlass with a red roof. Yeah, I'd say that's totally pimped out too. And with the 3.1 she's all show and not much go. Despite that, you're also totally right with not impressing anyone but the owner. Great comment and thanks for stopping by for the Regal video today!

The mileage is insane on that Buick. I was thinking the same thing about the tires when I first picked up the car but was glad to see they are fresh replacements. . On my first though there was a pronounced thumping come from the tires but after a few miles and faster speeds that slowly started to go away. LOL, I guess they just needed to be heated up some.

Honestly I found the best cheap car to be the 90s Toyota Camry. It's roomy, inexpensive, parts are cheap and plentiful, the MPG is good, the transmissions are almost infallible unless driven by someone who treats them exceedingly poorly, the power is ok, they cruise well, there's room for a full size spare tire, and the 97 to 99 Camrys look damn good.

I drove my moms ‘98 Buick Century, that also had a weird gas & break pedal height difference. I was 15 on a drivers permit. Since I was a new driver, I hit the gas instead of the breaks when parking up to a curb. Hit the curb and the airbags deployed, shattering the windshield. One of only two minor accidents I ever had was when I was 15 in that ‘98 Buick Century. I would buy the regal, but I already have an ‘08 Lucerne with the 3.8. I’m sure the Car Wizard would love the car.

Only issue is the damage to the paint that happened sitting under trees and sun damage to the interior fabric, leather, and carpeting. All of which can be fixed.

Funny thing though is that I've been able to coerce my wife into driving the Buick twice now and each time she was super sour and bitter about it.
