Hello Emma, greetings from Argentina. Here is the answer to why Gustavo did not want to leave the suitcase behind: remember he had been collecting the belongings of the dead in order to give someting from them to their families. That is why the suitcase is SO important to him. One more thing: there are some cameos of the real survivors: Numa' s home is the real one. The neihbour who greets Numa on the street is one of Numa's nephews. Nando is the man who opens the door at the airport for Nando and his family. Carlitos Paez plays his own father reading the list of survivors. The doctor who carries Roberto through the crowd at the hospital is the real Roberto, who is a doctor himself. And some other cameos too.

I believe, by seeing your reaction, that you agree that this is a very emotional film. Now imagine being Uruguayan, hearing the dialogue not just in Spanish but in the Uruguayan accent with it's slang, idioms, mannerisms etc. Personally it brought about every emotion there is. Joy, sadness, anger, horror and all in between. Being Uruguayan myself this film hit me extremely hard.

44:15 As I progressed, the snow disappeared and the temperatures rose. Therefore the meat rots due to lack of cold and that made him sick and he vomited. In reality, the spoiled meat caused Canessa diarrhea; it was better to say that it was vomiting in the movie and not diarrhea.

carlos paez (carlito's dad) never lost faith and spend the whole 72 days looking for his son, the last day he was just going to leave chile when he got the news that the plane was found and give him the list of the survivors without knowing if his son was one of them. Nando in the other hand: "I arrive at the hospital in San Fernando and have to announce to my father and my other sister that my family is dead. I return to Montevideo, my father is seeking peace and comfort with another woman, and I go to live in a rented apartment. The following Christmas, twelve months later, I spend it alone (...) That is, my mountain range did not end in '72. I returned to society to live alone, to make my own food, to work, I could not continue studying. That was also the price of my ticket." (book with the same name as the movie). is truly hearthbreaking thinking that everyone of them had a different story after the mountain

Excellent reaction. It made me laugh a little when you were surprised by the guys' behavior on the plane so seriously. What they show in the movie is little. The truth of what all the survivors tell is that they were having a great time on the plane, the youthful stupidity, they all stood on one side of the plane to see if it would tilt, they threw the rugby ball from one place to another, jokes and jokes. Even Carlitos Paez, the youngest of the group, says to fasten your seat belts so that they can later identify the bodies. I don't know if you were able to see that, which was the only thing they showed of the confusion they had on the plane. When the turbulence started they laughed and said "Ole" like the bullfighters, every time the plane fell into an air hole, "Ole", until the last one that was too strong and their innocence ran out and they panicked. This story has many incredible anecdotes. Hopefully you can see some interviews or documentaries. This movie killed me.

Some additional information -In the film there are cameos of the true survivors. The real Nando Parrado is the one who opened the door for the young Nando Parrado who was with his mother and sister. Carlitos Paez played his own father, who did not stop looking for them in the 72 days and he was the one who gave the list of survivors for Uruguay from Chile, Roberto Cannesa is the one who takes the young Roberto Cannesa when they are in the hospital -The Strauch cousins confirmed that they separated the bodies of the relatives and these were not touched, nor were those of the last 3 deceased, including Numa, since they had many illnesses, the bodies of Javier's wife, Liliana, and the mother and Nando's sister were not touched either -The survivors did not all leave on the same day, that is why it is said that they were in the Andes for 72 days, the most injured and weakest (although the survivors actually say that they were the fastest to get on the plane) were the ones who left in the planes and remained in the Andes with 3 rescuers, 8 of them until the next day -nando parrado really had a skull fracture which put him in a coma, 3 days later he woke up thanks to the direct contact of his head in the snow helped him, after that he insisted on leaving the Andes, just as the movie shows He makes the 10-day walk with Canessa, but not only that, Nando had to carry Canessa for 8 kilometers, and he constantly looked back while he memorized the path trying not to forget it, the soldiers seeing the path that Nando was showing them They refused to believe that they had walked all that, so he went up with them to the plane, and right where he pointed out the fuselage was, there it was. -Coco Nicolich's mother said and still says "I still feel like a mother, because I know that everyone has a little piece of my son inside" -The mule driver who found them did not help them the same day, but rather returned the next day to throw the stone at them with paper and pencil, and undertook a 10 to 11 hour trip on horseback to be able to take the letter to the military, the survivors helped him tirelessly after that, they even paid for his hip operation and called him dad -currently 14 of the 16 are still alive -Gustavo Zerbino gave everything he collected from the deceased to their retrospective families -Numa's house in the movie is Numa's real house and the boy that Numa greets is actually a relative of the real Numa. -numa played soccer, currently the team he played for is called numa turcatti -Carlitos received two letters from his father when they rescued them, one of them said "guys, here I sent you a helicopter as a Christmas gift" and the drawing was quickly made of a helicopter, Carlos Páez Sr. was a painter and artist

When the helicopters arrived at the Maitenes, Carlitos hugs Nando and they roll around in the grass, Carlitos grabs him by the face and if I'm not mistaken he tells him "You did it son of a bitch" he said it so close that Nando replies "I Are you going to kiss?" Nando spent the entire stay in the mountain range with his mind on walking to Chile, since he did not want to have to feed on his mother and sister. He also had his mind on the suffering of his father who lost two children and his wife.

Hi Emma! Greetings from Colombia. It's good that you saw the film in its original language, Enzo's (Numa) narration is overwhelming. This is a film that tells not only what happened, but what happened to them. As Nando Parrado said a few days ago "For the first time, the movie Society of the Snow gives voice to those who never came back...My sister's voice... My mom's voice... My friend's voice." This film is based on the book "The Society of the snow" which is based on the testimony of all the survivors 30 years after the tragedy, and was written by a friend of theirs. So, unlike "Alive" which was made based on the testimonies of the survivors but just weeks after what happened (when not even they had processed or understood everything they had experienced and felt), the society of the snow presents a vision not only of the facts, but also of their coexistence as a society in the snow, of their fears, of their internal struggles, of their losses, of their hopes. And no matter how many times you see it, it still gives you goosebumps.

The film is a cinematic masterpiece, not only because of the aesthetics, art, photography, make-up or script, but because they managed to tell the story as real and truthful as possible, to the point that the survivors actively participated in it and say that when they see it they relive in their minds everything that happened. It is wonderful the way in which Bayona manages to show the harshness of what happened with an artistic touch and a strong emotional charge and for the first time not only highlighting the figure of the survivors as heroes but also those who died and did not make it out of the mountain, which is why Numa's voice as narrator is so important. Each of the actors met the real person they were playing and most of them managed to create a bond with them, moving from interpretation to reality and giving the importance it deserves to what each survivor felt, because as they have already said, each one remembers the mountain in a unique way. THANKS FOR REACTING! It's not getting a lot of attention from reactors :(

Loved your reaction :) In Latin America, this is a well known story. Of course, in Uruguay, Argentina and Chile this IS THE STORY. So much to learn and get inspired from this story. The cabin crew had already crossed the Andes many times. The pilot decided to descend earlier, since no instruments were available to guide the plane (a 4 year old Fairchild FH-227D realtively modern by the time), got lost inside a cloud bank and discovered they were too low to climb. Everything from the crash, the angle they struck the mountain, the crash against the snowbank that ripped the seats off their foundations and threw people across the cabin at 250 mph, the low temperatures, avalanches....I mean, this is one of those stories in which nothing makes logical sense, this moves into the spritual realm. THIS IS HARSH... 24:40 Yeah the pilot was not removed (only his head) because he had his femur folding across and into his chest and was pinned against the seat which was, itself, pinned to the fuselage due to the force of the impact. He requested his gun to end his suffering but was denied the chance by the survivors. Fortunately, he passed away during the second day. Both he and the copilot (killed at impact and was the real pilot, Lagurara was piloting but was not a pilot yet, he was training) were never removed from the fuselage. Both bodies were incinerated alongside what was left of the fuselage in January 1973. Also, Liliana was not eaten. I believe the cockpit crew (except for Laguraras head), Liliana, Eugenia and Susana (Nandos mom and sister), Rafael Echavarren, Arturo Nogueira, Numa (cause they died of infections), and some of the guys that fell from the airplane were not consumed.

Fun fact: most of the survivors appear in cameos. The real Nando Parrado Ramón Sabella and Antonio Tintín Vizintín are all at the airport scene, Roberto Canessa who is a renowned cardiologist appears as a doctor near the end and the real Carlitos impersonates his own father. He is the man who reads out the names of the survivors on the radio just before the helicopters arrive. Carlos senior always believed that his son Carlitos was alive and searched for him tirelessly through the 71 days. Even Coche Inciarte, who died months before the release made a cameo. And one of Numa's nephews plays a small part as a neighbour.

The cause of the crash was skimmed over in the flight scene, but it got it mostly right. The weather wasn't nearly good enough to make that flight, and the captain through some kind of misjudgment thought they were significantly farther west than they actually were, causing him to start the descent prematurely. The rugby team put a lot of pressure on the pilots to make the flight that day, and they gave in.

Just fot context. The first mountain Roberto, Nando and tin tin climbed took three days. That mountain is named Seller Mountain. Nando named it after his father. Nando and canessa walked over ten days into the foothills of chile. GPS did there exact same route and it come in at 37.5 miles. And when Roberto was being sick, was because he contracted dysentry

Hi, Emma..! Very emotive reaction! Find another movie from same director, J.C. Bayona, called "The Impossible". Is another masterpiece based on a real event, the Indian Ocean Tsunami on 2004, that destroyed lot of countries and killed over 220,000 people.. Like "Society of the snow", really worth it.

The copilot made a mistake. He thought they we're already in Chile. He turned too early ; thats why they we're so closet to the mountains ; the we're in the middle of the Andes. Also the pilot gave the wrong information to the air control in Chile; thats why the search was almost impossible. Later the chilean army buried the bodies; recovered the camera and burned the plane Its a sad but beautiful story

Hello, how are you ? As a Uruguayan, I'd like to contribute a bit to the history and the movie. -Everything was recreated as it was in the 70s in Uruguay, including taxis, the airport, bars, churches, everything. -Part of the survivors appears in the movie. Fernando Parrado opens the door at the airport for the actor playing him, and the actresses playing his mom and sister. Carlos Paez plays his own father, reading the names of the survivors near the end. Roberto Canessa is the doctor accompanying the actor representing him when they arrive at the hospital. -Roberto Canesa became one of the best pediatric cardiologists in the country, a job he continues to this day with a foundation that helps children with congenital heart problems. One of the children he saved is the son of a friend of mine -In Uruguay, we don't have mountains or snow, and they didn't have the necessary clothing for the cold since the city they were going to in Chile didn't require it. Greetings from Uruguay!
