I read an interview with the Szpilman once and he confirmed that the last meal he had with his family was that caramel. He was pulled from the line, and his family was deported to the Treblinka death camp. I am not sure if the part has come yet because some of the scenes are blurred, but there is one scene where you see a man walking and entertaining children. It is not mentioned in the movie, but that man was real. His name was Janusz Korczak, and even though he could have saved himself, he died with the children at Treblinka because he didn’t want to leave them.

1, so happy that your dad is learning piano! I hope he has fun and keeps on learning! 2, I would like to say this movie has a happy ending. In a sense, it kind of does, but in reality you’re just going to keep crying. It’s one of my favorites, but damn is it sad beyond sad

It's madness to know. In that last scene. As hes walking down the street, in utter dispare at the lose of his whole family. Not only do you see the abandoned belongings of so many other families on the streets. You begin to see what looks like snow flakes slowly falling from above. To know that, that isn't snow that's falling, but ash. Adds on to this tragic scene. Anyone who's studied history, knows where his family ended up, and knows the horrific implications of what this falling ash means.

Just a request: Please pause the movie when you talk. You frequently talk over dialogue and miss things. Great choice of a film to react to.

I personally didn't mind it. I talk during movies with my friends, we just turn the captions on and the film is still just as immersive, but maybe that's just us 🤷

Thank you for saying what you said at the start…. It’s ok to be ignorant of things, we are all ignorant of something…. What we do about that ignorance is what matters. Learning and overcoming the ignorance is what matters….. In the end we are all the same, I’m atheist, and no different than anyone else. We just want to be happy and free.

"Schindlers List" by Steven Spielberg is also a very important movie to watch for more insight into the holocaust.

Schindler's List is a very good movie as well. It is a long one, so it would need to be broken into parts like this one.

As a follow on from my explanation of the SS on the last Band of Brothers ep, after the war a widespread effort was made by Waffen SS, (the military wing), veterans to claim they had had nothing to do with the holocaust. In fact wounded SS soldiers were sent to guard concentration camps when they were fit enough for light duties, also the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf (Total death), was recruited from the camp guards to an extent. They had a brutal reputation on both the Western and Eastern fronts. I may be the only person willing to write this but the Pakistani attitude to Jewish people is caused by the existence of the State of Israel, which came into being in large part due to the Holocaust. With many Jews wanting their own country for which purpose they were given large sections of Palestine. In 1948 Israel declared its Independence and the surrounding Arab countries all declared war on it and with the exception of Jordan which held the West Bank were defeated. A Hollywoodised version of the story can be seen in the film: 'Cast a Giant Shadow.' There are no reactions at all to this film suggesting that United Artists defends its copyright on that one to the death. You would see Concentration Camp survivors arriving from Europe and being sent straight into battle.

The hate of Jews in the Middle East goes back to the twelve tribes. I am not at all religious, although I read the Christian Bible some 40 years ago. Someone with more Biblical expertise can explain it better, but the Jews were "the chosen people". Christianity accepts Jews in the sense that they pose no threat to their religion, in which the death of Jesus Christ, who was a Jew, erases people's sins so they can all go to heaven. So, here in the United States people as a whole are unaffected by the Jewish religion. On the other hand, we have a long history of prejudice against people of other races, which had pretty much resolved in the 1980s, after the Equal Rights Ammendment was legislated. Only 57% of the population of the US is white, the rest being from everywhere you can imagine. I did not hear racial slurs for 15 years or so. Since then, racism has become a big problem again, and that includes against white people and, for some reason, Jews. This hate of Jews that I see in comment sections like this, appears to be from younger generations, and I don't understand what it is about. Maybe it is from our Muslim population but I have no way of knowing. The white hate is backlash. Because of the bombing of the World Trade Center in New York (9/11) there has been a lot of hate of Muslims, but most people here can't tell any of the Middle Eastern people from one another, so anybody from that region of the world could get caught up in that, even Sikh and Hindu. Because of the masses of people from Mexico and countries to the south coming to the US illegaly, there is a lot of hate toward Hispanics, even the ones that have been here for generations. Because of covid, there is a very minor fraction of people hating Chinese-looking people. Or maybe it is due to tension between US and China. However, the majority of people here are extremely tolerant and accept everyone. This is just my opinion, so anybody who wants to rebut what I state here, please do.
