    As a left hand amputee the issue is not the ability of the hands. We've for a very long time had articulating hands that could do most of the movements that a human hand can do. Its the interface which is severely lacking. Myo has serious limits in how many inputs it can take and how many inputs the arm can provide.

    If there’s technology that can read the muscles with the electrodes couldn’t we do connect some electronic tentacles to a back and make it where it reads different muscle movements in the back as the signals. (Doctor octopus style)

    I wonder how well a winter soldier metal arm type of design would work, it would have a lot of mobility but it’s very compact too. The scale like structure would just allow for the most movement possible. Depending on how good the technology gets for these prosthetics we could definitely see something like Bucky’s metal arm.

    The pressure feedback system is a real game-changer. Able-bodied people with all their limbs don't tend to realise how amazing it is that we can use our hands whilst hardly ever looking at them, and yet get the perfect level of grip on an object pretty much _every_ time. When you're suddenly made aware of it, like watching a video such as this one, it makes you realise just how complex and amazing the human body is - and how much of our bodily actions/functions are almost completely automated, without need for concious processing, focus or thought. Also makes you wonder, just how much of me is actually _me_ in control, and how much is my body just a pre-programmed robot that I'm merely occupying and taking a ride in.

I recently started to binge on some of the newer videos and I'm so proud of the progress and improvements in both the video quality and the scales of the projects themselves. I'm so glad that you're using your channel to spread awareness of this new and growing industry in technology. You've inspired me to see engineering as more than another boring math and science subject. You've helped me enjoy learning and discovering different topics. I now want to either be a mechanical engineer or maybe study engineering physics. I thank you and will always be grateful for being a part of such a pivotal part of my childhood. I hope you guys realize that you're inspiring a whole generation to take on engineering and have fun learning new things.

    I have to be honest I was aware of this company because I have always been into robotics, and always wondered how a cyborg would look like in real life ( not just in movies). Its very cool that you are doing this, and raise awareness of this. I am originally from Iraq, back home there is A LOT of people with missing limbs. So a very cool colaboration. But guys talking about that gift you were given. This hand/arm is begging to be a winter soldier. The colour is perfect because it matches his wakanda arm (or you can paint it). Ideally you find a person who is missing an arm or part of it and integrate the bionic with a full arm sleeve that looks like metal or is also made put or carbon fibre. The carbon fibre won't be expensive as a material if you did it yourself, but its a pin to deal with and mold to someones arm. Essentially you are just doing an extension of the sleeve, no mechanical additions are needed because they made all of them. The hand is quite small in size judging by the footage so don't find massive guy with no left arm, find an average sized man 5.8-5.10 with a slightly muscular body... Basically Bogdan. Come to think about it just chop Bogdans left arm from the elbow down and they you got the perfect video, LMAO 😂am joking, please don't ban me.

    This would be a logical partnership....you're building lightsabers so there's definitely gonna be demand for prosthetic hands EDIT: This is seriously cool how far this kind of tech has come. Getting to talk to some people that are using it as well and getting their take on things was neat. Kinda made me take a bit of look at my hands, they really are pretty complex things for all most of us don't really think too much about them

Would need some more programming to make the fingers swivel but after that we have hands that could do everything natural hands can do and possibly better. Attachment to bones and nervous system would probably be the next step

    Very inspiring stuff. Thanks for making the film. One thing that wasn't mentioned was whether the software will be open sourced at some point. It would be tragic to have to rely on this technology but then back-end support goes away if the company changes direction, obsoletes certain models or even goes out of business. Reparability and spare parts availability are also an issue especially if supplying to less-developed countries. I really hope this company is successful.

    That's a decent leep since this still uses part of your arm as a baseline to receive signals from. I think something like that would require a neural implant to read commands, which would be incredibly alien and take a long time to adapt to. I'm not saying it's impossible, or even that I doubt it will happen in our lifetimes, just that it will be another big leap forward. Or maybe we'll find a way to receive the commands from somewhere else, and it will be easier.

  • @Dunch0717
    @Dunch07179 ай бұрын

    I plan on going into biomechanical engineering when I graduate high school with my associates degree, and I'm already working on a design for a prosthetic arm. Ideally using cells from the recipient new nerves would be grown to replace the nerves that would be in the arm. These would be connected to a computer chip and then implanted in the recipient. This computer chip would wirelessly transfer the input nerve signals to the prosthetic arm. The arm would have a small computer in it that decodes the nerve signals and the decoding program could be made custom for each person. This would allow for the user to control it like how anyone else would control their arm and have an idea of where it is relative to themselves without looking at it. The hand itself would have about ten DC coreless micromotors that contract wire to move the fingers. Each of the fingers would have four metal "bones" connected by joints. The metal would most likely be a aluminum alloy so they could be strong but relatively light. The joints in the fingers would be sing axis joints and the knuckle joints would be a type of universal joint that I designed. This joint allows for motion in two axis but the one I designed highly restricts one of those axis of movement. This means that like real hands the knuckle joints would allow the fingers to move from side to side slightly. Each finger has 2 motors connected to it and two wires that can contract it, meaning that with one wire on the right and on the left side not only can they contract the finger but they would also be able to take advantage of that knuckle joint and move the finger side to side. The thumb would only have three segments and the first joint would be similar to the knuckle joints but it would have a larger range of motion. The wires themselves would be NiTinol wires that can be stretched, but return to their original shape at a slightly warm temperature. Using NiTinol wires like this makes it so the hand could grip something like a ball as hard as possible, but if the fingers cant grip it any harder without breaking it or themselves the wires will stretch. When they stretch the fingers will fully wrap around the object similar to a real hand. This means that if the hand is holding an object that it cant break and it starts gripping as hard as possible instead of just reaching its limit and putting serious strain on the motors the wires will just adjust their lengths while still retaining tension. The entire hand would be covered in a pliable form fitting "skin" that is made out of a synthetic compound. Then there would be rubber pads on the palm and finger sections. With all of this combined the hand would have a more realistic range of motion, it would be much better at gripping things because the fingers can adjust to the objects shape, it would be very durable, and it would feel more natural to use. The main downside is that it would have to be charged pretty much every night, but I have also designed two ways to better charge it. One of them is for people who might want to just leave it on at night and its a mattress toper that has conductive pads throughout it. This mattress toper would charge the arm wirelessly no matter where it is in the bed. The second thing I designed is a stand that the arm slides onto and charges the arm through metal contacts that connect to corresponding metal contacts on the arm. Sadly though I've only been able to do a very small amount of testing since I don't quite have that big of a budget.

    This is incredible. 3D printing would be good for _relatively_ quick prototyping, but given the nature of filament and how it also degrades over time, I can see how durability would a major issue. But now that this kind of tech exists, with even touch-feedback, it's another revolutionary game changer that wasn't possible with any other type of prosthetic before this. I'm excited to see where this goes, maybe even customization, like colored silicone sleeves to mimic skin tones, or collabs with IP holders to license and bring exterior designs from pop culture with characters who are also using prosthetics (i.e. Fullmetal Alchemist) with the same inner core technology.
