THIS BASS HEAD BLEW MY MIND (it's ALL about Mike Pope)
Музыка
One of my favourite all time bass players (who also is an amazing preamp designer) has teamed up with a great bunch of guys and released a killer new bass rig...
In this video you're going to get a full run down of the rig... find out why this particular preamp is so unique (and VERY customisable)...
And, hear the back story of why I was emailing the designer over 15 years ago to try and find out the secret behind his bass preamps.
Ooo... and we're also giving this bass rig away as part of the SBL 2018 Ultimate Bass Gear Giveaway... you can enter that using the link above.

Wow, Scott! Thanks for this glowing review. I’m super glad you like the gear. While the preamp is full of Pope, these rigs sound how they do because of the whole Trickfish team. David Yates, Anthony Fregoso, and Ryan Owens. But the vision for the whole company and product line was Richard Ruse’s, R.I.P. He managed to assemble a team that, I believe, has come together to become more than the sum of its parts. We’re SUPER proud of the gear. Thanks again for doing this! And on a personal note, thanks for your compliments of my playing and for posting that clip of me with Chick. I DO still see myself as a musician first!

www.trickfishamps.com/amplifiers/bullhead-5k/ your website says it puts puts out 700rms at 4 ohms... but the power consumption on the back of the unit says 200watts... wheres the other 500w coming from, you need power to make power...

Dude you are a legend. Anything with your name on the preamp is worth every penny.
Proud to be a bassist for 30 years , always learning something new from you !
Your enthusiasm is infectious. I play for 20 minutes every time I watch your vids...
You're the best, man. I practice your Continuous Arpeggio exercises everyday. Thank you for putting so much good energy out into the world - we need it!
That tip about setting the gain was a total lightbulb moment for me. Thanks Scott. I had no idea but that ha changed my world , thanks
I’m super excited about this. Thanks Scott!
I studied theory with Mike Pope at the Bass Collective 20 years ago. He kicked all our asses. I got to thank him for that at NAMM last year at the Trickfish booth.
I’ve been using Trickfish gear for over a year now. I have the Bullhead 1K and a variety of their cabs. Super versatile, great sounding gear, and highly recommend to any serious bassist. The preamp is so good you can start flat, tune it to the room, and it lets the character of the instrument really come through. Best of the best.
Awesome vid as always Scott. Thanks for keeping on keeping on.
I watch most of your videos. I play fairly simple bass lines but I pick up a lot of useful tips from your videos. Thanks from an old guy for all you do for the bass community.
My heart’s in my throat. I can’t wait for you to announce the winners!
Love your videos!
That is a gorgeous bass .
I'm a bald guy and the heat in the UK at the min is unbelievably. And I totally understand what you mean about sweat. Awesome video too Scott. Love watching them. And love watching gear reviews.
Thanks for all your clips really love em. Nice looking amp, would love to win it then I wouldn't have to borrow one. Keep up the good work.
I have a Trickfish Bullhead 1k: great versatile amp: I think Mike Pope made the preamp a tweaker’s delight and Richard Rise (RIP) had a great vision. I hope these amps catch on!! Thanks Scott!
What a beautiful bass
You probably already know this, but for those who don't, those amp head knobs are called "chicken head" knobs. Thx for your vids.
Scott, qual a melhor configuração para uma regulagem pro som ficar limpo e audível?
4:20 Its my city!!! tnx man!!!! hope to see u playing at UJ in the future
Love that bass😍
Sounds very good.
I want that and their speaker cab !!
How would compare the Bullhead .5 to the Vanderkley Spartan? Would be interesting to hear your thoughts since you have tried both heads.
SWEET RIG
That’s a beautiful bass
Wow, Scott, that's a heck of a keyring. Talk about "all access!"
I'm not gonna win, that's just my luck in life, but man that is so nice of you, thank you so much for a chance to win it

Can't figure out the secret code, I watched the video 3 times and I can't find it :(
What's the secret code?
Would love to have heard you demo that particular amp with a passive p and/or j bass instead. I'm not sure the amazing fodera will even require anything but flat amp settings
Thanks for the bald tips... you are hilarious
Wait, was the Fodera in active or passive mode? Wasn't the whole point to be able to get the same preamp in the Fodera without buying a Fodera? Cab seemed fairly light when you picked it up which really got my attention. Great sound but then again you are able to adjust your technique to bring out the best in anything.
Thank you.
Its funny how my fraternity brother & I are having this exact conversation about TrickFish cabinets & the Fodera giveaway. He's encouraging me to buy one...because he's involved in the design of it!!! We're going to get together for Homecoming this year and see how my Smith sounds thru it!
I'm not bald but I'm a super sweaty guy and I recently bought a fan for on stage and it's one of the best additions to my rig. It's fairly small, acts as an extension cord to plug my pedal board into and is more powerful than I even need. It keeps me from being disgustingly sweaty while I play in bars without AC. It's a Lasko blower fan and I definitely recommend it.
Late for the giveaway, grrr, I wanted the head so badly or the lessons... jumping from not having an amp to THAT marvel would have been a dream come true, but it does not matter, I work so much on my bass technique that I'm quickly approaching you... :), it's been very easy because you're a very good teacher and that's a great prize anyway, thank you very much and greetings from Chile! (sorry for my English)
I can't wait to see their pre-amp pedal get finished. Do you think you might get your hands on one, Scott?
Me me me lol! Sounds great!
That's a great preamp.
That is an awesome bass
Sweet axe and Amp !!!!!
that's nice stuff , and you make me laugh, and i need to. stay cool !!!!
Hi Scott! Could you do a video on the down and upsides of using a guitar amp head as a bass amp head?
Maybe it's Scott's microphone, maybe it's my speakers, but it sounded a bit too tinny and hollow (for my liking) when scooped n slapped. I find it's really difficult to choose gear based on online videos. Sometimes, you'll find actually playing in person can surprise you. Other times, the sound from the video is entirely accurate. It's a weird phenomenon. 7:19 Scott's 80Hz bass face, in case anyone was wondering 😆
Hello Scott, I hope this not finds you well. I enjoy your KZread movies very much and find them extremely informative. As far as hair and the sweating thing I must call B.S. lol. I preformed in an outdoor amphitheater show in Southern California the summer of 1974 to a modest crowd of approximately 3,000. Full sun and a full head and shoulders of hair. I was sweeting so profusely that I was only able to open my eyes after toweling my face between songs and before the encore. I was not my normal “SHOWMAN” on stage, not movin and groovin, having my normal fantastic time that live shows bring out in us. I’m sure you know the vibe. I was bumping into amps, cymbals, mike stands, and tripping over cords. I was blinded by the sweat in my eyes. I did not complain and the show must go on. The Band thought I had self medicated but after we went back stage I explained what had happened to me we all had a good laugh. Turns out the show was a monster success despite my onstage antics. It was a dues show for me and a learning experience or sure. I went out the next day and purchased 2 electric fans. Never would I again be unprepared for a gig. So it’s not the hair or lack there of that makes for a sweaty mess, it’s not being ready for the unexpected. LOL. Again, thank you Scott for you time and efforts, you are appreciated. Sincerely, Pops Fitch
Cool 👍
Gear is a personal thing. I played this amp at a rehearsal studio in Houston, I was not a fan compared to my Mark Bass gear. Like I say... it's all about preference.

+1 on the bald guy sweat thing!
As a bald man who gigs, the”Niagara Falls sweat” is right on! Haha
I'm self-taught and I don't know where to begin with SBL. When I was young I used to read and I let it go. I had to learn so many songs back then. Now you've got the fretboard course and I'm afraid that might keep me from going back to the basics. I don't know if doing both is a good idea. I have to choose something. I've been told I don't need any of it and just play but I want more knowledge even if I don't use it all. I think enough theory to get back to reading even though I do not plan on playing sheet music. Reading is helpful in many ways such as composition or learning bass parts although I don't normally play exactly what is there. I think SBL would be good for learning some theory and the fretboard accelerator learning other techniques. I think what I will do is first go over some Theory and fretboard basics before I make a commitment and then choose a path.
It’s early Scott! I just got out of my shift at Krusty burger!
Gig tip(bald or not) -- Golf towel for sweat because you can find them with the little snap loops to put on an amp cabinet handle or microphone stand !
I want that bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍
hey Scott-----have u ever tried Sandberg basses?
I think i'll like it when it comes to my home 😏 i'll win this giveaway! 👌😏
Oh yeah. Bullhead. Bass preamp, but it's also a small fish! Loads in local rivers here in the Cotswolds. Also known as a Miller's Thumb. Miller's Thumb preamp. Hmm. Shades of Marcus there?

Bob Harding-Williams , in the US, a bullhead is a close cousin of the catfish, close enough that most people confuse the two. Ameiurus melas; they tend to stay on the short side of 24 inches, but can be more aggressive eaters in areas with less competition. The more you know!

Never played with a Markbass or Eden electronics? They have a handle in the center of the bass. You'll probably love DNA bass gear as well!
Seriously looking at the Trickfish stuff to replace my longstanding Eden rig. But (and I'm sorry to raise this Scott, but reckon you'll understand) I would like a bit more transparency about your (and many other!) KZreadrs' equipment recommendations. Do companies pay you for these things? Or not?
You crack me up
Does anyone know where I can get an amp stand like this?

Scott are there any vids of you playing guitar out there? If not why not I'd love to hear your skills transposed into the guitar format.
Being a fellow bald guy , you are right on the mark!
Hi Scott, thats some wonderful gear. But living in NYC Id be scared to death owning an 11 thousand dollar bass. I just finished paying off 1500 dollars for over a year on my fender jazz fretless 4 string and I worry about even having that stolen. Plus Im 63 yrs old. But this would be great for a younger player who is serious. Its to bad its not being given away to someone who is an extraordinary talent who would be really deserving of such a fine instrument. It would be a shame to give this away to someone who is not totally dedicated. But I do understand the politics of all this and your site is extremely informative to many bass players. PS I did not even notice that your bald head was sweating, I was salivating over that equipment!! 😁😁😁😁
Some Ashdown cabs have top handles. Also with the cab that high you will lose some of the mutual coupling from the floor.
One more thing , my first bass was a P bass , then I bought a Rick 4003 , I hated that thing . Being left handed , I typically , as expected , got a Hofner 500/1 . Would not get rid of it for anything . I know I’m going hear the negative comments . To each his own . Take care fellow bassist !

Ricks look great, but sound like garbage.
So nice to see a Trickfish video, thanks Scott! I switched to Trickfish earlier this year after an A/B test of all the best gear on the market. Bullhead 1K, 2 x 112 cabs and 1x15 cab worked out the best for me, and I just love the way it blends no matter what style of music I am playing!
@7:10 you said exactly what I was thinking. Take a page out of Jaco's book for head gear - works for both haired and hairless, but everyone will say you are just copying Jaco...which would be true.
Also to the hair guys, dont use hairwax when performing live with spots lights, the hairwax with melt down your forehead to your eyes and irritate alot when trying to focus, haha
Cool! ..yes, a bullhead is an ugly bottom dwelling fish-lol. How appropriate. Good promo vid for Trickfish & the drawing, btw. Barefaced cabinets also have handles on the top of some of their cabs. They also use a grill very similar to that one.
Why not just have like a 10 band slider eq for the preamp rather than dealing with the switches and stuff?
I looked in the Academy I can't find any lynx to get my new federa coming to my house!!
Bergantino. He puts handles in the top of his cabs.
Didn't TC Electronic do this back in 2010?
John , Ricks are good looking but I had 2. 4003s Nothing but problems !
if possible could you please play this setup with a darkglass pedal haha
yeah bold here
If Scott knew about Greenboy cabs, he wouldn’t have been complaining about amp companies not putting handles in the top...
Man o man how do ya’ follow up that act✨🤪🔥#LOL
How old are u Scott?
Where's the link where's the link where's the link?
Im bald by choice about to turn 16 august 1st and yes i can relate to the sweat like it drips down to the end of your nose and you literally have to blow the sweat off your nose😂
I know what it's like, Scott. I'm bald and I sweat a lot. And sweat always gets in my eyes on stage. :/
Yeah man, I gotta bald head.......
Hey Scott - a Bullhead is a type of Catfish.... Go figure mate!!!
Mike Pope for Pope!
www.trickfishamps.com/amplifiers/bullhead-5k/ the website says it puts puts out 700rms at 4 ohms like scott said... but the power consumption on the back of the unit says 200watts... wheres the other 500w coming from, you need power to make power... somethings not right here...

There are tons of pre amps give you greater selection of frequencies to cut and boost than this amp. Look at the isp beta or carvin bass amp. They both let you select a huge range of frequencies to boost or cut.
Scott's 26 year old self low-key looks like Orlando bloom
It's a little annoying that you can't get the entries for the 14 days free trial, when you're already a member.
I need a new amp. My wife's dog chewed mine up and stripped my chord one day in December while I was at the grocery store with my sister. I keep playing, and my wife never tells me to turn it down. I suppose that's a plus.
Pick Me!🤘😌
Then the sweet drips onto the inside of your glasses. Burning eyes with dirty glasses
Members of the public...you don't want this....you probably won't like it so if I were you I wouldn't even bother entering the giveaway. I'll tell you what, if I win I'll let you borrow it....
My goodness... antiperspirant. Fantastic.
You looked like a more handsome PsychedSubstance in your youth lol
