Alexa and Brandon definitely could have repeated as champions with one fewer mistake, but they were very impressive and handled themselves beautifully in the absence of their coaches all month. Overall they have the best elements, their twist and throws were stronger than ever here, and I find their free skate most effective, they just needed one fewer error. Miura/Kihara are great but scored too high. That was far from a personal best free skate and Ryuichi was the first one to say it. But both teams had mistakes, and M/K’s clean short won it for them. It was a great and intense competition between these two top pairs, we need more matchups between them. Alexa should really stay, she’s on a new level lately.

Agree on the double axel moment with the Italians. I was so impressed by her ability to wait and then nail the second axel with him in perfect synch like nothing had happened. Re: the program composition, I do get annoyed by lifts bunched up back-to-back. I'm super impressed with Lia and Trennt. She's a star, just in the way she moves and her solidness, and how well she keeps the emotion through the skate, and he's a really strong partner. No shade to Evelyn in particular, but this is a much stronger pair. I like Emily and Spencer. They emote really well and I find them very elegant. I do see what you mean though about not quite gelling yet as a team. I do like Ellie and Danny too - I think she moves so well. We can't forget how young she is. If he's willing to wait a couple of years I do think they could be really good.

Can you guys try to use the skaters names more frequently? You name a pair and then talk for 15 minutes about “them” and it’s impossible to figure out who you’re talking about without starting over completely. I have to give up which sucks because you all have incredible insights! Don’t be afraid to use their names unless you just want it to be an “inside baseball” podcast. I’m at 36:50 and have no idea who you’ve been talking about for the past 10 minutes. When I skip back, it’s just more “them” and I don’t even know if it’s the same pair. What a mess😅 I’ll have to come back when I can watch without missing a single second but it should t be this much work. Maybe I’ll wait for a time stamp hero! Great points about pair-skating, guys! So happy for Miura/Kihara for their first ever Grand Slam! The first Japanese pair team to ever win this, too. It seems like judges aren't even sure of their own rules, anymore. ISU needs to change if they want to bring back popularity to the sport, but they're still clinging to Russia for $$. Cheap bastards. To think that Russian federation members are allowed to watch Worlds 2023 as 'guests', too...ISU has indeed fallen to new lows. It's like Dick Button said, sending in the foxes to guard the henhouse. Disappointing. The doping saga should not be forgotten, nor should Russia be allowed back in.

Even before axel sequence BV change, pairs sbs has always been too heavy point wise considering this is pair discipline. Throws and twists should have more value. The BV decrease on quad twist and throws is a mistake orchestrated by Rusfed. It should be returned to what it was before their greedy manipulating hands done damage to pair elements.

  • @yohanes2034

And what the feds think of them being overtly present at the competition? Don’t they stand to gain a medal if scores are dropped? I just don’t understand how all the federations, usa, Canada, Japan aren’t making a united stand. Or is it going on behind the scenes? I'm praying that Riku and Ryuichi get different choreographers for both programs next season. Like omg for the last 2 seasons they're transformed into this generic canadian teams (no offense to the other teams) with the choreos and music choices. Lori should work with them and maybe she will give them masterpiece like she did with Sui/ Han. Also I assume as Japan have really strong single skating roots, I thought I don't need to worry for them going into sbs jumps. But oh boy Riku, you may idolize Sui but why do you follow her jump issues? Like do I need to worry every time you go for sbs 3S

Famous last words of an aging Da Vinci in his last notebook, “The soup is getting cold.” For figure skating, the soup is now lukewarm. In a sport fast losing credibility and interest, how do they ban 17 year old Russian athletes but allow the most controversial Russian coaches at the world tourney? Clueless and spineless.

Lol any other season I might have agreed with you but not this. Even keeping all doping stuff aside, russia has not had a steady crop of ladies this season. Even the eteri girls Akatieva (she's not even eligible for seniors yet) and petrosian have so up and down the while season. Your own judging panel seems to think valieva is done (again don't know if she would have been eligible to compete this season because of the doping positive test), as for the plushenko girls, only god knows what's happening there given the way he keeps complaining every competition. Only tuktamysheva seems to be consistent. Moreover, the jumps seem all over the place (even if we don't consider the clean sport aspect), the programs are just headache inducing stuff of nightmares. And all I hear out of there ever day is another eteri girl who was completely broken due to her training methods (daria, maia, Aliona, sasha etc) which would makes it even harder to root for anyone there even if we can look away from how terrible the programs are.

LOOOVE Meagan! She said it once again but I guess it will again be 'lost in translation': The Russian skaters are NOT to be blamed for the systemic and massive doping policy in their country. It's the system, which includes coches, officials... Seeing Lakernik and too many of those coaches in the arena... makes you feel uncomfortable. The skaters are banned while the creatures that constitute that horrific system are flaunting in Saitama like nothing ever happened. Not right! As for the competition, I expected the quality level to be similar to what we saw at the Grand Prix but instead it was much-much better and in fact enjoyable. Congrats to Riku and Ryuichi on the title! I liked Sara and Niccolo the most, and the Hungarians/Russians deserved to be 5th if not even the 4th. Thanks for the show. Cheers!
