Спорт

Today, the International Skating Union announced the 2021-22 ISU Grand Prix Assignments and Meagan Duhamel joins us to break down one of the toughest series of lineups we have ever seen on the international circuit in the lead up to the 2022 Olympic Games. How will Kamila Valieva and Daria Usacheva place in their Grand Prix debuts? Will Maya Khromykh get assigned the TBD to the 2021 Rostelecom Cup? How high will Nathan Chen and Yuzuru Hanyu score this fall? Will Alena Kostornaia restore her triple axel? What will Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron skate to? We break it down during a bonus episode of 'This and That'!

I wish Kostornaia weren't competing against Valieva. Even if she has her 3A back, Valieva is probably the one skater in the world she can't beat because she also has 3A, as well as 4T and now 4S.

@@evanperilstein5308 Agree. My favourite is Kostornaia, but this is gonna be so hard for her. Among all the Russian skaters, I think Valieva is gonna be the hardest to beat. She has 3A and Quads, not to mention good PCS. It's unfortunate that they are competing. Another pressure for her is that, there are equally strong ladies like Tuktamysheva, Kihira and Liu also vying for the podium in Skate Canada. Like what I posted in other videos: Tuktamysheva (consistent 3A + may possibly have 1 or 2 quads) Valieva (3A + Quads + Good PCS) Kostornaia (Recognized PCS + may possibly bring back 3A) Kihira (3A + quad sal, though not yet consistent + good PCS) Liu (may possibly have 3A + quad) If Kostornaia will have a consistent 3A and possibly 1 Quad, she may be able to compete well. If not, this is gonna be difficult for her.

Just putting a short comment before watching the entire video, for ladies the toughest as well as interesting events would be Skate Canada and NHK because I could see 4 girls vying for the podium. Skaters/couples who have placed 1 to 6 in each of the four categories are seeded and assigned to two events. But only time will tell. It will be interesting to see the three junior Eteri girls move from junior to senior this season. I’m also interested with how the American ladies will do, not sure if any of them will make the GPF but Bradie made it in 2019-20 so it could be possible. Mariah could possibly make it as well if she does well. I’m assuming that 4 Russians will go but I can’t say which ones though. I’m sure that if either Rika or Kaori do well they will earn a spot. This is way too much speculation.

Do you know when/how Skate Canada tickets will go on sale? I've never gone to a Grand Prix event before and so don't know the inside info on how to get tickets as soon as they become available. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. This one is too close to my home for me to miss. (Assuming the US-Canada border is open by then, sigh...) Thanks!

Hi! I’m also looking into going to a GP event for the first time (IdF in my case) and sent an email to the French federation asking them about tickets and other questions. They replied saying ticket sales will most likely start online on their website in September. Perhaps it’s better to get in touch with the Canadian federation to get more information on ticket sales, as they might start selling tickets earlier (since Skate Canada is also earlier).

You can keep checking on the Skate Canada website (skatecanada.ca). They will announce what day tickets will go on sale. Things are opening up in Canada now. Cases of Covid are going down and vaccination rates are going up. 75% of Canadians should have their two doses by August. I think SCI will go ahead with spectators as planned October 29-31, and I think the border will be open (to fully vaccinated people at least) by then.

Also, tickets are purchased online on the Skate Canada website. They should be quite reasonable. Two years ago, an all-event pass with a really good seat was only $200CDN (about $160USD).

Oh wow, thanks for uploading another video, guys! The Grand Prix assignments have been long awaited. Can't wait for the season to begin! I do hope that Rika and Alyona Kostornaia will be recovered and perform to their best with their 3As and/or quads. So glad for Ksenia Sinitsyna for getting GP assignments, too! I wonder how all the skaters' training is, though, because not all countries have opened up their borders. Valieva will no doubt be in the Grand Prix Final; Kostornaia not sure. Trusova and Scherbakova I could see making the cut. It would be nice if the Korean ladies are able to get good placements; not really counting on them to make the podium, though. I think all the competitions will be great to watch, as we've gone a whole year without a real season. How could TJ and Aljona Savchenko be on the Grand Prix? They're an unknown pair at this moment. Looking forward to seeing James/Radford, as well as Sui/Han back in action and Peng/Jin! I really hope they've recovered and been able to train. I agree that Sui/Han need to show up at the Grand Prix. They need those placements. I also hope that Peng/Jin medal on the GPF as well. All the competitions will be a joy to watch!
