@@ADSTHEBARBARIANTrash opinion. Nas is better than every single rapper you named, only Big Pun comes close. And Nas has multiple classics outside of illmatic. He only got better lyrically over the years. He never declined. Only production could hold him back.

Reason why is the best ever album 1. Everyone either started rapping or improved x10 greatly from illmatic 2. Before Nas new young rappers didn't get a chance or a record deal for young prospects , Nas opened the door for that , in 91 he got turned down by def jam cause he wasn't developed enough 3. Raised the bar for rapping and lyricism gave a new wave 🌊 of how to rap , the art form 4. He's a mix of Ra , g rap , slick Rick in one rapper , but with more poetry , visual imagery, and versatility 5. " Name a rapper that I ain't influenced" - facts , big stole his cover and storytelling, az started a career, Eminem heavily influenced by Nas and Ra , pac big Iww fan , j Cole Kendrick both Nas babies, Jay-Z bited everything 6. First ever album with multiple producers on 1 album , the best at that time , before that it was only rapper and dj , 7.To this day he unmatched and still in prime 8. " I didn't have to die so they can call me the great one , didn't take couple of albums people said it from day one "

These are not reasons for Illmatic's greatness as an album. A lot of this speaks to Nas's greatness as a rapper, particularly in the time of Illmatic and being a hip-hop media darling at the time. But now that we're sophisticated adults, some of us question if Nas even wrote that album because there's something in the lyrical prowess of Illmatic that Nas hasn't ever recaptured, not even by accident.

Illmatic was far from the first hip hop album to use multiple producers. In 1993 alone Run DMC, LL, Queen Latifah, and KRS already did that with their albums. And before them Kane Lord Finesse, Kool G Rap, and Heavy D was already doing this. Also, Nas didn’t open the door for young rappers. LL Cool J was a superstar at 16, Rakim dropped Oaid In Full at 19, Kriss Kross blew up in the early 90’s as 12 year olds, and the same day 20 year old Nas dropped Illmatic a 14 year old Shyheim dropped his debut album. Illmatic was a game changer because of Nas’s elite lyricism and the incredible production, period. As for the other cat questioning if Nas wrote the album himself, you tweakin .

Yeah Marley did most for juice crew . But only Nas had the spark the golden child status from anyone that blew up . Reason why Nas still strong and almost nobody from that era is , everyone knew even back then

My point wasn't to discredit its production, but if you compare it to some of the Wu tang records and Kanye records in that regard the production is minimal. Production Isn't the main appeal of Illmatic, its the honest gritty nature of the album. It was like a photograph, listening to takes me to NY in the 90s, and I haven't even been to NY. There is no other album that does that to me.
