About the Project:
Join me as we create a map rich with natural beauties, distant towns and a bustling metropolis. The aim is to create an island that feels as big as a state or territory, including vast biomes, mountains, rivers and an endless coastline. Set in Australia and New Zealand (maybe an island in between), this map takes inspiration from open world video games and the way in which the game devs create such immersive environments, such as GTA 4 and 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Mafia 4 maps. To take it one step further, every thing on the map should feel unique and distinct. No city district, town or mountain should feel or look the same.

Headphone warning at 5:50 dunno what happened there. Also while I’m here, what should I add to the airport next?

Antarctic Logistics Hub. Have a look at the US Antarctic Programme HQ at Christchurch airport. Add a Hercules too as they’re the planes flying into Antarctica.
I love the SimCity music. It brings the nostalgia.

I think deleting the third runway was the right decision, it immediately made the airport feel more to scale with the surrounding infrastructure and landscape. Great episode!
I really liked this "style" and video. Great build!
We've all carpet bombed our city to the ground at one point. I literally only use the Natural Disasters dlc for channeling out my immense anger at stuff not working properly😂

A backstory for the airport could be that it had only a single runway for a long time until the was a big renovation where they terraformed the land and added an extra runway
@seraphina985
2 жыл бұрын
I think that works especially since the longer runway is where the newer one would logically be. In that location the most sensible place to extend would be to reclaim land from the sea thus the new one would be the one further out and it being longer also makes sense. Perhaps previously it was just a regional airport so it didn't need as long of a runway as it only needed to handle smaller regional jets and turboprops. When the local economy grew and led to higher demands for international travel being able to service longer haul aircraft directly rather than them having to transfer at another airport elsewhere justified the longer runway.

@@seraphina985 yes that’s what I was thinking
Some hilarious editing on this one! Loved it! The slightly smaller airport scale does feel better to me.
Backstory: Dundee was a small town with a small airport with limited connectivity to the world. Soon, new people came in power and they transformed the city into an economic and social powerhouse. When resources around the region was discovered (I guess oil?) that brought in the hordes of industries and corporations in the city. That's when the regional airport was transformed into a international one. (This is where the old terminal and the new international terminal style fit). Soon the city was known all over the world for its governance and economic success. This led to the city hosting olympics for the first time. The city had massive plans for the olympics and the airport saw an upgrade. This is when they reclaimed some land from the sea for a bigger runway (hence the perfectly manicured terrain against the sea). However with time, the city saw diverse industries emerge and a faster way of transporting good was needed. This is when a cargo extension was planned and a small chunk of mountain was carved to fit that in with oil supplied for the planes from the city itself and other industrial area to accommodate new industries (hence why the airport hugs the mountain). The city now had a bunch of wealthy people who owned their private jets and helicopters for which a separate section was designated from the carved area.

I think that works especially since the longer runway is where the newer one would logically be. In that location the most sensible place to extend would be to reclaim land from the sea thus the new one would be the one further out and it being longer also makes sense. Longer haul aircraft tend to be larger and require longer runways to operate smaller regional jets and turboprops can operate on around 1,500 metres (A220-100, ATR-72-600, etc) to 2,000 metres (A318, B737-100m etc). Few of the longer haul aircraft can manage to pull that off a notable exception would be the B767-200 for example (1,900 metres for a 9,400 km range) but the really long haul jets definitely can't for those you are looking at closer to 3km or even more for some.
You could add an extra taxiway in between the two runways and have more of those diagonal taxiways coming from them. Would recommend checking out LAX south runways for that.
Digging the Sim City 4 music!
I love this video style! It shows your entire thought process through construction, it keeps me engaged and entertained, and has much more of a pay off seeing the end result
Really enjoyed this new format for your video. I could tell there was a lot of effort put in during the editing process of the video in order to tell a consise story of the build. Inculding the parts where you make drastic changes to the build is very rare to see in other CS channels (most show the entire build process in a 40-1hr vid or a perfect build that is less than 15 min), and really makes it more relatable to other CS players. I think the balance you struck is almost perfect and thats a testament on how well you ediited this video. A very refreshing take on a game that has been out for years. Keep up the good work and I look forward with how this style evolves with time, just like the evolution of your videos throughout the years I'm sure it will be great!
haven’t watch you in a while but wow the production quality went through the roof for a cities skylines video, great job
Great episode mate! PO on the terminal is genius and looks great. Appreciate the humor too bro!
Personally, I liked the experimentation. Can't wait to see the next one!
What a great episode. I really enjoy how you manage to express the difficulty to build a realistic airport. I was wondering if you would end it with a rage quit. But no, you keep trying, changing your mind, re do things. I understand watching your video why I can't decide myself to buy this dlc. It's such a pain to build a realistic airport in this game. I will one day, but for now I enjoy so much watching you doing the hard job.
Definitely takes a lot of work to get the airport to look and feel right with everything else, glad you're taking the time for it!
SC4 music
it's cool that you used music from SimCity. It's such a good soundtrack, so peaceful and soothing, and fits a city building game so well. Airport looks great.
Love the simcity music in background!
The simcity music really makes it perfect.
Always excited for airport episodes ☺️. Btw i totally agree with you, it looks much much better with just 2 runways.
The music from SimCity 4 unlocked some hidden memories
really fun switch up in style, but yeah i am glad you kept the side of the mountain, the airport was getting a tad enormous lol
haha I just laughed reading the title, can't wait to see this episode I'm sure it will be great!
Lovely video! As a semi plane enthusiast as in one knowing that the 737-800 has cfm56 engines sort of level you should really do an airport on a mountain! Like Lukla and a few others.
Great video!
I really liked this style of editing. I bet it took a lot longer though!
Love the sim city music in this!
don't think I've ever laughed more in a two dollars twenty video
I love how you utilise SimCity music, it is just about the only redeeming feature of the game. I have it downloaded via steam for my Cities Skylines. Makes the experience a tad more pleasurable!
Enjoyed the style change 😎👌
I think the third runway could still work, only not in a 90° angle, but rather something closer towards 60°. Pointing it towards that little bay that is visible in the top right corner of the screen at 18:10, in order to have good approach clearance and there should still be enough space for the cargo terminal and all the other things in the triangular space that would appear between it and the terminal. Definitely worth at least to try and see, imho.
It would be important to add the metro station at the airport as soon as possible! It should probably connect in the middle of the main terminal to be used well, so there there needs to be space for it. The elevated roads at the terminal seem to be in the way already.
nice job man. I love this game
Sim City music! Love it, what a call back
Whish I could build as great as you another great video TDT! (:
Everytime i play C:S, i put on simcity 4 soundtrack in the background. Nostalgia kicks in and it is so cool.
Maybe some tolls at the entrance and security for the service roads entering from the road into the airport, things like that Also I know it’s an American airport but right next to LAX there’s an in-n-out and a park that over look the runways. It’s a really cool (and loud) place to watch the planes well your eating or just walking Also 2x: you should put up a playlist for Sunset City on the channel

Talking about planes, it would be nice to see one of these emergency runways in the outback for ambulance planes.
Loving that Sim City 4 background music 🎶
You should look up The Tampa International Airport… the road in and around is PERFECT!
One of my fave episodes yet because making airports is HARD
I really enjoyed this new style, its quite a nice change
You should use the taxiway shoulders they really bring it to life
lol I love the simcity music, brings back memories
This airport looks a lot like an airport I made in one of my city’s, Redwood Bay. P.S. Love the new video style.
omg that's simcity bgm love it...

I can already tell this is gonna be a gem of a video I enjoyed more humorous tone with this video and i dont know why i am talking like a 40yo suburban dad though
you're putting more thought into making this airport than I'm putting into my life...
Massive improvement compared to the previous version! 😍
You should have a look that there is always a taxi way to enter and leave a terminal. In the last shots it was basically impossible for a plane to land since it didnt have access to a terminal
How did you figure the planes out?! I gave up on my Oceania save because my airport failed exactly the same way, no planes landing, no one using the airport
That whole removing the third runway twist caught me off guard lol.
I feel that you should add a few satellite terminals. When you look at airports like verde beach and tutoria you notice that there are many satellite terminals
I feel like the airport feels too big only because the two main runways are far apart from each other. They could be closer, making the airport more compact while preserving capabilities.
I have the same issues with laying out airports. Just spend 20 hrs on a Vegas airport and I'm about to delete it. The struggle is real.
I recently had to drop a friend off at the "classic" side of the airport... on the other end of the tarmac... with no connection to the main terminal. Talk about letting the team down.
Maybe the older terminal was built in the 1970’s and refurbished a bit. In the early 2000’s the Airport needed more capacity and then the new runway and the newer terminals where built.
Simcity music hit me like a train
20:03 I don't see much clearance here lol. Runway approach and takeoff paths need clearance not just from mountains but from also from stuff like bridges and harbor cranes....
the music of Simcity in the beginning !!!!!!!!!!
plot twist you read a story about Berlin BER airport
Almost had a stroke right there 4:42
Backstory: The airport was originally one runway and way overcrowded, needing desperate renovation anyway. Oceania submitted a bid to host the World Cup. It won, under the proviso that the airport was extended and modernised. At this time, the second runway that terraformed it's way into the sea was added, along with the improved highway connection and metro extension along with it. Could also give some backstory to the soccer stadium (it was soccer right?).
im hearing sim city ost here cool
Correction, you removed the SECOND runway and kept the first and third. Airports ALWAYS has x runways because of how things like wind works.
I always can't be bothered with land when making airports, all the airports I've made have been artificial islands.
woah and the toggle snapping for the roads? the yellow lines
What add on do you use to make the dock areas so smooth? I've tried everythign and an't get any good mods to make it look smooth like yours
i can hear simcity song theme back there LMAO
simcity music on city skylines, thats a cool mashup
You should build a RAAF base or something on the other side to make the airport more interesting
Fun fact I actually live near a place called Dundee it's in scotland
You can please do in the desert area that runways that are on roads that cars can go on them but they close when planes land there i have seen some in Australia
I would like to see some roundabouts included
As I pilot, i'd be terrified to take off into those dock cranes
1 runway at 3k meters can support like 8-10 million passengers, so you went a little overkill for the sub 50k city 😅
there are no "laws" or even customs to have perpendicular runways. There are many airports around the world with all kinds of angles. the only reason its often done like this is just simplicity in calculation crosswind/headwind and therefore expected approach vector.
I think you should eventually bring back the third runway.
So i was watching this video on the toilet and i got the worst idea ever. An underground runway for airplanes so that you have loads of space on top to build American styled car centric suburbia.

The cargo port, airport and the city I can conclude that is Everywhere Everything All at Once😂
when showing these different real life things on google earth, you could indicate the city and country that is located
I hope you detail this up cause rn idk doesn’t rlly fit the city i think looks quite unrealistic
18:36 I mean places like Tirana international airport exist. That’s an international airport with one runway, so yeah…
*Entire city is filled with shelled craters and on fire* "...and I finally got my cims to start using the airport" Spoken like a true dictator!
The flight path of those runways really skims by downtown. First thought is noise pollution.
I had this happen to my cargo airport that I tried to rebuild... Absolutely no one used it. Not a single plane in nearly 5 decades of game time. How did you fix it? I've not found a fix yet :( My passenger airports going ham, getting 2 or 3 planes in each stall at any one time and they're queueing back to the run way... not sure how to fix that either.
lav it boy much love
Any plans for development on the opposite side of the bay
Epic
Very cool my guy, but, "almost destroyed me and my city" - playing with infinite money. x to doubt lol
Aww the aussie
Dundee Scotland has never looked better
Mayhaps some breakwaters would look nice around the airport? 🤷♀
There should be more queensland/brisbane inspiration
So why did this almost destroyed your city ? It fits in nicely!
