There are two modes for the backlight, a quick press/ flashlight mode which is just instant on/ off and a long press mode, if you long press about 4 seconds the light will blink and then stay on for another 4 seconds. Also, on the rear cover there is some additional info stamped in the cover, the battery number, the lug width, model and serial number and the web address are all stamped in the rear cover.

I've owned this watch for several years. The tenth of a second register can be calibrated to read back to zero, and also I didn't see you use the indiglo function. You push the crown to illuminate the dial. The lume is certainly marginal being it's a timex, but the indiglo trumps almost any other watch on the market.

That it's actually a few dollars less expensive than the Weekender is pretty remarkable, and the Indiglo feature that was [almost] missed is just the icing on the cake. Dude I have owned Timex watches since I was a kid in the 1960s when they were an institution and still proudly made in America. Currently wearing Chronograph Timex I have had for about 10 years, keeps perfect time and all I have done is replace the batteries every few years. The slogan is Timex takes a Lickin' and keeps of Tickin'. Got my current watch from Kmart. It was a $50 watch, but Kmart mislabled it for $18, so I got it for $18. The watch now sells for $100. My watch has all of these same exact features but I also have the Tachymeter bezel.

This was the first watch that I got myself when I started caring about time and time telling a year ago. I can not say enough good things about this guy! It is solid overall, keeps a great degree of accuracy, the chrono hand hits every marker. It is a terrific watch and at under $50 is one that I feel okay wearing on hikes and being a little rougher on. You can't go wrong with the Expedition Chronograph!

  • @ZTenski
    @ZTenski2 жыл бұрын

I've been wearing this watch (well, the older model military expedition t49823) daily for 10 years. It's not an expensive watch, but it keeps excelent time (within 10 seconds a year), and its chronograph good to the twentieth of a second has been good enough for me through university. Goes through a battery every 2 years, but I use the indiglo heavily when camping in the summer so YMMV. 3 things I didn't like. The original strap disintegrated within 5 years, had it replaced with a non-leather backed strap and it's lasted since. The slide rule on the outer rim of the dial is made of softer stuff than it ought to be, so it's been nicked and marred, allthough it still works (allthough yours does not seem to have the inner ring of the rule?). The face could be made of tougher stuff, I've had to buff out a few scratches with jewelers rouge over the years. Mind you, I bang it off everything due to my clumsiness. But overall, it has been a good watch to me. It's been underwater to 10 feet, dropped, banged, stepped on, abused, muddy, and sandy, but it still works perfectly and probably will for a very long time, knock on wood.

It's nice to know that the independent hour hand movement is an actual feature Timex includes in their chronographs and that my watch isn't totally busted lol. I have tons of watches and never had one with that kind of date adjustment so I was a little confused with it. Timex watch bands are serviceable, but I always wind up replacing mine, even with cheap aftermarket straps, just to elevate the feel.

I needed a watch to wear to the beach, to the movies, and to less-than-safe areas. This Timex has exceeded all expectations. Owning a Rolex Datejust w/gold fluted bezel, Speedy and Bulova Lunar Pilot among a few, I really appreciate this Timex. It looks much more expensive than it should, is comfortable, and it has Timex' incredible Indiglo feature. Surprisingly, the Bulova Lunar Pilot is my daily driver, but this Tinex sees an incredible amount of wrist time.

I currently enjoy a Timex digital Atlantis 100 which IMHO is one of the nicer looking digitals out there. Two nice features that are the same as mine are the perfectly stepped buckle so the strap lies nicely flat and the case back has the strap width engraved on it. Great video as always, i appreciate the open minded reviews of value watches.

As an owner, I'd like to add a few comments. Of couse you now know about the Indiglo. My only real gripe about this watch is the proportions. As others have pointed out, at 43. mm, this watch is screaming for a 22mm lug width. IMO, it would balance out better aesthetically. The movement flops around a bit when setting the time or date, not a deal breaker as it's quartz and doesn't need to be monkeyed with daily. Hey, it's $50 bucks. The strap: Most Timex watches come with garbage straps, these Chronos come with straps made by S.B. Foot Tanning Co., Red Wing, Minnesota. Yup, the strap was a pleasant surprise. The attention to the level of detail and it's layout and finishing on the dial are superb at this price point. With 56 year old eyes, this can be a shore to read. Mine has the red hands and I purchased a Ritche band with red accents, which looks and feels great. Case finishing, I don't mind ad this is an Expedition and IMO, the rougher finish is suited to this style. Your recent admissions of Quartz functionality and toning down of the drama has me subscribed again. Keep up the good work.

The legibility with the Expedition series is very commendable. I think they have done their homework and taken their time to make very competitive products. The new Marlin and that other funny throw back thing are way over priced and would never consider buying them.

I've been wearing a similar Timex Expedition model for over two years. (Mine doesn't have the tachymeter ring, the watch face goes out all the way to the edge. The watch face is more similar to the Timex Expedition Scout Chronograph.) It's on my wrist when I shoot handguns and rifles, including during a rifle training course at Thunder Ranch. Never a hiccup. I use the chronograph several times a week when working out. I have no complaints considering the price (I paid $105 for mine, if I recall correctly). I would certainly recommend this line of Timex watches as an excellent field watch that you won't be afraid of knocking around, or even destroying it!

This was my first chronograph watch. I remember seeing it and thinking “nah I don’t need a chronograph. I don’t even know how to use it” only to go home and look up a video on how to use one, solely to justify buying it. Although I’ve enjoyed watches since high school, this watch was the one that really drove me into the passion where I started learning about the different watch brands, movements, histories, etc.

You know what would be a welcomed return? A Timex Expedition reminiscent of the Tuna can style with the slide rule and tachometer but that it goes to 1000 kinda like Breitling. Along with chronograph 3 subdials. Silver tone is nice but SS with that black hardened DLC coating IS awesome. People pay the extra premium for that black color. If they like the numbers great, if not, indiglo.

I just bought a Timex expedition scout and so far I am quite impressed with it for the price. I have several much, much more expensive watches but after nearly scratching the shit out of my higher end citizen this morning I decided to get the timex for beating around. I love more expensive, very nice/fancy looking watches but prefer a cheap beater day to day and the nicer watches for going out with friends, dates and work. These 30-50$ timex's tell the time better than any fancy auto, are much less delicate and actually have some really cool designs. If they upgraded to a japanese movement there would be no point in buying many other affordable watches if you like the designs. It reall pisses me off when people look down on super affordable but well built watches. They absolutely have their place and I love my little scout. Will for sure be picking up a few more timex watches.

I own both the Expedition and the Weekender. I have several criticisms of the former. It is a very large watch, maybe too much so for my medium-sized wrist, but I usually wear long-sleeve shirts, so I can live with the size. My biggest problem is that I find the dial a slightly confusing, especially in low light. The Indiglo function doesn’t seem to work well with the black background. I bought a white dial version of the Weekender-much easier to read, even without the lighted dial feature. It is admittedly not as well made as the Expedition, but its 40mm size wears better on my wrist, and it is considerably less heavy.

I have used Timex watches. They work very well. I found most of their movements with mechanical hands are not as refined as the much more expensive type watches. When setting the watch I found the hand positionings are not as refined. I found the indexing and eccentricity is not as perfected as the more expensive watches. The big plus with the Timex watches is the accuracy. Their quartz watches are very accurate. Typically they can keep to better than 6 seconds per month. Very comfortable to wear and very dependable. Especially with the low cost Timex and Casio watches it is best to get their digital LCD types. There will be no indexing accuracy issues if you are fussy.

The price is very good for this watch. It must even have an ETA movement like it is used in the Swatch Chronographs. The downside is that these movements are unrepairable since they are soldered together and not screwed. So the owner gets screwed instead: Even oiling is impossible, which in many cases would make a blocked watch run again.

My go-to beater watch for three and a half years. I wrapped up my MS in biology last year and have been doing environmental consulting work, mostly dealing with aquatic biology. While I was in school I realized I wanted a chronograph because my thesis had timed sections of the stream and I didn't want to mess with my phone stopwatch in the middle of a creek. This watch has survived hot and freezing cold temps, getting banged around, getting muddy while digging crayfish burrows. I wish they had a slightly more expensive option with sapphire or someone made sapphire mod option (but oh well, it's a cheap tool watch). I've gotten plenty of compliments on its look, too. The leather holds up pretty well, with no de-lamination, but I swapped out for soft silicone because two months of ten hour daily hikes for work over 100F heat index in VA just made the leather gross looking, but it's still is structurally sound. I also got dive certified wearing this watch and I've done numerous dives at or above 60' with it (I mostly have to dive creeks, rivers, and lakes) and haven't had any leaks. I also like that when you keep the crown pushed down long enough for the indiglo to blink it keeps the light on for 3 second intervals and using the pushers in that mode also activates the indiglo. Sorry for the long comment, but this $50 watch has exceeded my expectations!

My everyday wear is a 39mm Timex Expedition T40051 Field watch with the olive dial and a khaki 18mm NATO strap. It sat in my trunk strapped to my go bag for a couple of years, but one day I took it out and started wearing it and haven't stopped. I've owned it for several years and am just about to have to replace its original battery because it's losing track of time, not even because it died. It's $55 with a nearly identical design to the $400-500 Hamilton H69439363 Khaki Field watch, minus the movements. Timex offers very affordable and very reliable options for everyday wear.

That's on top of the woeful lume. Someone may have already pointed this out, but I watch KZread via my Cable supplier here in New Zealand and you can't see comments without actually going to a Laptop or phone. I've had a few Timex's in the past, but have just picked up a TIMEX Waterbury as it has a tiny bit of heritage value... nice watch.

I’ve had Timex Ironman watches seemingly forever, adding two Intelligent Quartz models about a year ago. I recently bought two MK 1 Steel watches (matching natural dial, fabric strap, a 3 hand TW2R68000 and a chronograph TW2R68500). I went with the slightly more expensive MK 1 Steel over the Expedition or Weekender for the full stainless steel construction versus plated brass. I find this chronograph’s jumping hours to be more valuable than a quick set date. I read the manuals for all of my watches, even simple 3 hand mechanicals. The manual for this chronograph took me less than one minute to read. You not reading the manual did certainly generate a lot of comments.

I would tie it to my fishing line and drop it into 2 hundred to 400 feet of water and find that sweet spot temperature for the fish I was looking for. Dropped my bait to that depth and bam. Fish on! Worked in deep salt water and shallow fresh water. Done this for 23 years and the watch is still working, 5 batteries later.

I have that watch. Let me say first off all: It looks more like a pilots Chronograph ore than it does a field Chronograph. Its a good watch but the band sucks. I changed the band to a black silicone band with to bolts in it making it look like a German Pilots band form WWII. Many of the Timex leather bands suck. They fill cheap and wear out fast so I always change out the bands. There bracelet bands are better and all stainless steel. The watch also comes with a stainless steel case and a cream face. I have the black one but the cream face looks good too. Only thing is: to change the date in quick set the hour hand moves all the way around the face, jump hand. Its also a split time Chronograph. If you push the crown in you get an electronic light called indaglo. You really don't need the hands to glow. Over all its worth the by and I like it.
