I have an insane idea. You raise your monitor and you create a Lazy Susan. This way, instead of switch and storing all the gadgets, you rotate them under the monitor. The tools you need in front can be rotated into place. Now, how big of one, unsure. This all depends on how many you have and how big or small they are.

Why don't you put the units on toy train rails & wheels so you can just shunt them back & forth either in a circle as described above or just along the table from left to right?

I don't think i'd use a pedal board for this but the idea where you combine multiple devices into a "combo" is pretty novel. If you create a shelf that holds them all with labels on each cubby for what "combo" board is inside that would be awesome. Or add a hook to each pedal board and hang them from a curtain rod or something on your wall. Whatever the storage solution, making it grab and go is pretty neat. Not to mention some of these boards could work just as well on an ipad in a different location as they do on the computer.

Sorry dude, for 40 bucks each one, you got ripped off. You could make them yourself with aluminum, Acrylic, Iron cast or wood. Custom designed to fit the size of your gear. Not too hard to pull off. Good video production for sure.

Love this idea. I've attempted to do something sort of like this with my portable desk as a whole, but haven't thought to focus on a smaller scale. I also have this similar OCD conundrum, and that Animal Crossing story certainly resonates with me. My theory is just that I always like to have the most optimized setup for the task at hand. Nothing more, nothing less. Whatever it may be, I only want the most relevant devices in front of me; as anything I'm not actively using becomes instant clutter / distraction. This is why I love this Gadget Rack idea that can also help with light cable management. My current setup is in my living room, as my bedroom is too small for any practical work / entertainment. So I have my PC and console hooked up to the TV, and I use a manually height adjustable desk on wheels that carries everything I need on it; which I can wheel off to the side of the living room when not in use. I have just 2 meter thunderbolt cable that I'll connect to a docking station on this desk when I need the non-wireless stuff powered and connected. This does require a separate power source, but I had built this into the desk by adding a mountable power strip on the underside, which I can easily slide off and put aside when putting the desk away. I thought I had it all figured out this way, but I find myself rearranging the surface of my desk depending on the task, or needing to take things off of the desk to make room for other stuff on occasion. Everything at once is just too cluttered, though I do use everything at one point or another. This video offers some much needed food for thought! 🍻

Just wanted to drop in and say that I combined this idea with an IKEA hack that used small wall shelves as pedalboards. For about $15 AUD ($10USD) I got a 2ft shelf that suits my needs. I don't need to swap gear around constantly, but now I got a stand for my drawing tablet and a tidy place to keep/charge my phone, watch and earbuds. Might attach a desktop USB charger to the underside to keep cabling on the desk even neater.

I did a similar thing with a spare 10 U rack from my band days. I loaded it with drawers, a sliding shelf and a spare power conditioner and turned it into my A/V rack. Its on casters and at that time was also a place to stand a display on. The sliding shelf had a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse a USB dock and HDMI switch. I ran the wiring the same way I did a guitar rig. The pedal board idea is genius!

For a DIY option, there’s square aluminium tubing that can be bought from Bunnings or Home Depot. Just need a hack saw and use various combinations of t-joiner bits. Maybe screw or stick feet underneath from the furniture padding aisle. Also if velcro is not stronk enough, dual lock is an even more robust alternative

You know, I did something similar myself. The main difference is that I don't swap devices often, but I still wanted them easily removed and in a confortable spot. So I basically made an elevated wood platform on my desk, under the screen, and I have my uphoria audio card on top of it and my touch screen just in front of it. When I'm not using it or I need space, I just tuck it underneath the platform. Its also a great space to keep my 14 inch laptop accesible but out of the way. I also have a wireless charger for my watch attached just under the platform, so I don't see the charger or cables, but I can just put my watch on top and easily charge it.

I used to play with a guy that did this exact thing with his guitar pedal setups....while I have a couple big ones that I manage, he has multiple small ones...."this is the RATM/90s drop D grunge board, this is the metal board," etc. It just makes sense.
