Emulation is the way to go.

I still have mine as a living room console. I7 7700 and gtx 1060 6gb. Gaming at 1080 is respectable and emulation on it is excellent

Nice pickup! I got 2 of these. 1 in an arcade and 1 setup for lightguns. No issues with either and are still able to play just about everything I throw at it.

It might not need a re-paste, it's likely the fin stack is clogged with dust and you can get to that just removing the blower (repasting might help a little more, but for more work). Do note when removing the blower how the little divider between the CPU and CPU air space is setup, as I had minor troubles with reassembling that to the blower. I had less dust in the blower fan on mine, and the heatsink was pretty clogged, and temps went back to normal after that, without having to remove the heatsink completely.

You can play VR with this system! Low-mid settings but still you can't beat it for the price.

It's kind of weird to think of Kaby Lake and a 1060 as "older tech"... I still have an old desktop PC with an Ivy Bridge i7 and a 670 that I built in 2012, and it was always good for playing Wii, Nintendo DS, and PS2 at the very least. I believe it works adequately with 3DS and Wii U as well, but I'm not 100% sure. Then again, I never tried 4K on this machine simply because I've always had 1080p monitors attached to it... but honestly, if you don't need the compact form factor, you could probably turn any old Dell machine with an older i7 into a decent emulation box by just adding a video card for about the same price as this. Or for that matter, with some of the newer low-end Intel CPUs, you don't even need a video card to do basic emulation these days.

For that price it is a much better buy for emulation than almost all of the MiniPC's. In some PS2 games it can do 4k I think? But off course a Xbox Series X is a lot more powerfull, but less flexible. Xemu emulation of the Xbox Classic will probably be better than on AMD based GPU''s. Another reason to prefer something like this above the MiniPC crap ;-)

Have to admit that CPU is still good one you could probably upgrade the GPU to a mini gen 3 GPU they actually still made the 20 series for smaller computer chassis

i7 7700 socket 1151v1. So probably the most powerfull CPU on it that is supported. edit : Ah GPU. Is the power supply good enough? And a 1060 is enough for most emulators anyway.

@@WickedGamerCollector The newer cheaper mini pc's keep on sucking at the GPU side. The thousands ( ;) ) different MiniPC's you've already shown : Almost none can emulate PS2 in 4k :D A challenge for you : Go find one MiniPC under 400 dollars that can!

There is no “best machine”. It really depends on the games you want to play and the emulation quality&price you want to pay.

If you have PC with HDMI, DP or even DVI-D you can probably connect with the right cable to a modern TV with HDMI input

The GPU could be replace with a 4060 card, but the bottleneck would be the CPU... so maybe a 1660 super? Since the 4060 might use less power than a 1060 it probably would get less hot anyway.

HDMI ... you can plug it in.

1650 and higher are all better than the mini pcs with 780m unless the game is cpu limited.
