Norton antivirus is basically ass cancer for your PC. It uses a shit load of resources and slows your computer down, doesn't catch or stop much malware/viruses, and is basically a huge waste of money.

"Though maybe if they included like a 'gaming version' of Norton, it could just have one button... Uninstall~" That line cracks me up!

Love this case, my favorite small form factor type! Like how it looks like concept art for Xbox 720 back in the day! Is the more any way to buy just the case (with the motherboard inside apparently)? I'd rather do my own stuff from the start, as this seems expensive for what it is.

I absolutely love the fact that so many companies (Especially Corsair with the new Corsair One) are manufacturing gaming PCs that don't actually have that much of a price increase versus building yourself. I really hope companies keep doing this and PC gaming can grow. Thanks to the increasing popularity of games like CS:GO and LoL, we have console people moving to PC.

Yeah, I hate that a lot of preubuilts will charge twice the build fee for worse hardware as opposed to having microcenter build it and do custom watercooling on it themselves, it gets crazy

There's perfectly good low-end hardware out there, but in order to recoup manufacturing/R&D costs you almost never see them paired in experimental products like this. Meaning these things are always the domain of people who have more sense than money.

A console killer is NOT a $1200 Mini PC. This channel so often uses the word "console killer" to describe any incredibly high priced pc in a console form factor. People don't buy consoles because they're small enough to fit in a living room (which could easily be done with a mini-itx case), they buy them because they're cheap and run games at reasonable FPS. I'd love if this channel could review a TRUE console killer, a $400 computer that can deliver performance better than a PS4 or Xbox One, whether its a custom build or something prebuilt. Unfortunately it seems that companies like MSI are only interested in high end models.

pretty sure they've already done cheap builds that can beat consoles performance wise. Unfortunately they don't tend to be small as far as i can remember. And since you have to build it, it's not really a console. A console killer has to achieve at minimum 60fps + 1080p + small form factor without having to build it. One of the reasons consoles are better for gaming for most people is because they don't have to pick from an array of parts and build it. Unfortunately PC manufacturers believe that product design is still a premium product for the PC world.

You can allow yourself a budget of between $800-$1000 for a 'console killer', because when you factor in the price difference of games, roughly 50% (e.g. Ghost Recon PS4/XB1 $66.45, PC $29.50 from gaming dragons) and assume a games library of, say, 20 games, you save around $600 on games, plus the price of the console.

That's kinda not how it works. Because you just don't buy a $300 console and go play. You have to pay for games, monthly subscription etc. and can barely do anything else sometimes. Therefore, a console-killer because it does the job better in terms of graphics, allows you to do more than just play a game, has the same size (and/or weight) and costs not THAT much more. ;) Ps.: I'm not even saying that what he showed is indeed a console-killer. I'm just trying to say how can it be considered one.

and with a console, you have to buy all the game that you had again for the new console and when steam gets hacked we don't lose money and when / if ever it happens in the future the will give us back the money not like micrshaft or boney who will take ur money and run off. Well, he has to pay bills and all. Besides, if he reviews a new tech, and it turns out that the tech is good... how can he not recommend it? He also showed the pros and cons, for example, I already have a desktop that good, and while the small factor is nice, the temps are too high for me so I won't buy it. It's not like he is holding back info.

Synergy is amazing! bought it about 2 years ago and loving it. Use it between my home PC and work laptop ALOT :) Definitely worth the buy.

There are plenty of really nice looking full ATX HTPC cases that look quite at home in the living room. Certainly not portable, but they could easily be mistaken for a standard surround sound receiver.

Socket Sanctuary Have you actually looked at Steam? What did you pay for your last AAA title? 60$ or was it 100+ for that "season pass" BS. Look i just bought a package for a strategy game made in 2015 with 10 expansions.... all of this for 25$ thanks to weekend madness discounts... Along with virtually every AAA title in my library that i purchased for up to 85% off. No disks to lose or break and better running with no mod restrictions. Also doubles as a work station for countless tasks. If you are smart you can find dirt cheap parts. RAM isnt bad if you just get 8-12 GB. I paid 200$ for 32GB of the fastest RAM for a server build. not something you normally do though. The ONLY think you should blow several hundred on is a GPU but if you can handle having less than 4k graphics it shouldnt cost you more than 250$. I paid 200$ for mine and only one game has given me issues with heat. Never had frame drops. You can scrape by with stock heatsink but i suggest you drop 50$ or so on extra case fans (it keeps dust out and makes your comp cool. Cool computer = longer life.) Overall you can even drop these prices a bit if you wait til discounts like black friday. Anyway if all this cannot convice you that yes a few months of saving can get you a decent rig then nothing will. I am truely sorry if you believe that 2k$ gaming rig sterio type. My rig cost 800$ total and i have 8 core 4.0 GHz processor, 32GB of ram at 2133 MHz, 4GB of VRAM in a GeForce 1080 Ti (200$ on black friday), 1 TB HDD for 50$, and a extra large modular steel case with 7 120 or 140mm fan slots for 45$, water cooling for 80$ and a M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard for around 150$. Keep in mind this is a high end rig. You could easily get by with less and as soon as you start getting huge discounts in steam the PC will pay for itself in savings in a year or less for hardcore gamers like me.

Hey Linus, you forgot that MSi included a fan control program with it. I have a Trident of my own, and its quite a huge help in long term gaming sessions. I dont mind the extra fan noise, since my kit from Rent A Center came with a decent MSi analog (not usb) gaming headset. :D

How many times do you guys have to claim a console killer solely on form-factor? I have never heard of, seen, experienced a single environment of circumstance in which you cannot easily use a mid-tower case. It's literally only an aesthetics thing. Who's living space is so cramped that they can afford something like a console but can only fit a console and no more??? We already have console killers, they're called regular PCs and they do gaming better for less money.

The problem with all these small form factor cases is the CPU cooler is in the opposite direction of the GPU cooler. An extra long PCIE riser cable could fix this and put both coolers on the same side (allowing storage in a entertainment center)

Hi Linus/all, I have a Trident 8th Gen and I'm very happy with it. The size is great for taking it to my friends (Mashed anyone?), great for Adobe work as well and quiet. That said, I would like to upgrade it somewhere in the future to be able to keep playing games in high settings. I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of GPU I could install coming from a GTX 1060 6G. Mind you: there is a power limit on this thing (230W, possibly upgradable to 330W) so TPL should stay within limits. Right now I have my eyes on either a RTX 2060 mini or RTX 1660 mini. What do you recommend? Thanks, Lion

This is simply an example of a powerful PC in a console form factor, and in that one regard it can considered a console killer, or at the very least in the same realm. You can build a PC for the same price as a console that will, at least on paper, outperform it. Its a very popular thing on the Tubes. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who isn't a computer hobbyist, unless they are interested in playing PC only titles. Consoles are a good thing. They bring gaming to masses with the majority of the thinking about components and configuration done for the consumer. PCs, especially on the mid to high end, are always going to be the realm of enthusiasts and hobbyists, and that's fine.

it depends where you live, i don't know the prices for PS4, but i found used one for 220 USD. I don't know if it's a good deal or not. I'm living in czech republic in case you are wondering :D I don't really see the potential in MSI's trident. I get that you have a powerfull PC in size of a console, but I would rather buy the console for gaming and if I need to do something else I will just use laptop which I have or my desktop (g4560+gtx1050+8gbram = 320 USD) And be honest, If you are doing some work on PC - let's say video/photo/music editing or whatever, you will not buy this because you already have a beefy PC/workstation or you are going to build it yourself for cheaper

Dont even need steam sales. Its been shown time and time again that console gaming is more expensive across the board. Take, for example, a brand new game. Consoles have a 10 dollar licensing fee (a 60 dollar game is 50 dollars on PC). If you are a "gamer", buying two games a month is pretty typical. Thats 240 bucks a year, 300 with online, or 600 bucks over two years (not including taxes, which are often higher for electronics). This means after two years the guy with the brandy new 500 dollar console will break even with the dude who bought an 1,100 dollar PC, and two years after that the PC guy can drop 600 bucks on an insane new video card (and still break even), while that 4 year old console rapidly starts to show its age.

The base model is $900.. so it's 4 times the cost and again to your point NO SHIT it's more powerful but you gotta understand the people that can't game on PC's (keyboards and mice) and prefer consoles

I have the Trident 3 8th with an I7 8700, a GTX 1060 6GB and it came with the 230W PSU. I've been considering upgrading to the RTX 2060 by using a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter and getting the 330W PSU (the 1060 uses 120W, the 2060 uses 160W), but my only concern is that SUPPOSEDLY (according to the Trident 3 8th forum moderator) the motherboard that came with the 1060 has a power limiter that prevents the use of the 330W PSU. I'd like if anyone would chime in and give me your opinion about this. Thanks!

You have to be a serious idiot to think the cost of the PC has to match the console specifically, when PC's do infinity more than a console, and the games can be had for 50+% off 3 times a year on steam and every month on humble bundle. God console people are fucking stupid.

I have a laptop with usb c intel skylake , which has a speed up to 40 gigabits per second. I wonder if there are some pci-e adapter for an external gpu.

I'm in love with the idea of smallest possible size for the best hardware and this seems good option .. btw you rock
