This 19th Century Dresden Museum Received a Careful Makeover 🤩How Did They Build That? | Smithsonian
Ойын-сауық
In 2001, Daniel Libeskind was hired to design a tasteful extension to the Bundeswehr Museum of Military History, in Dresden. His vision was an ingenious feat of architecture that managed to be both modern and respectful of the city’s tragic past.

'Careful makeover'?? It's an abomination

Like a video game when your graphics card got fried
That's heinous.
A handsome neoclassical building disfigured forever.
So you took a beautiful building, and made it objectively hideous? Way to go.

To be fair they aren’t anything special there are hundreds if not thousands of them in Germany.

Yes, look up the architects who did this. They admit they hate European History/Architecture. This is vandalism and they know it.

@@roadrunner6224 And they can't build them anymore so leave these buildings alone and build your brutalist sheit elsewhere outside of historical cities
The Poison Mushroom strikes again…
This trend makes me wanna cry.
Aliens will come visit the museum in search of answer regarding our extinction. They might find what they'll look for...
Looks like an East German monument from the 1970's celebrating the Soviet victory in 1945.
It's all so simple. The cities that preserved their cohesion and old architecture attract millions of people worldwide a year for it's beauty. They spend thousands of earned money to go to a place with old architecture. And then modern architects come around and tell us this is special en beautiful. Meanwhile cities that we're destroyed and full of this sht attract zero tourists.
How tragic.
This looks so much like the ROM in Toronto…

Same Architect to be fair
The arrogance of contemporary architects is gobsmaking.
TO DESTROY SUCH A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING WITH SUCH DISGUSTMENT. THEY SHOULD BE IN PRISON!
When ww3 breaks out i hope this gets hit first. greetings from germany
Building with a tumor
They did a version of this to the Louvre decades ago.

It was wrong then, it's wrong now.
Hands were rubbed, when designing this.
The construction is like a heart surgery, margin of error is critical.
They should do statues of Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione, who connected a lot of us to Dresden's past history. (Only legends know.)

Indeed
It looks as if the building has a parasite on it.
What a HORROR!!!
What is that weird designed stuff in front of a beautiful building? They don’t fit each other Make something good looking ok
Perhaps a monument to Arthur Harris and RAF Bomber command...
People hating on this have no architectural knowledge
I like modern architecture, I like old classical architecture,... and this is just hideous.
Horrifying architectural sacrilege!
They absolutelly masacred the architecture, wish they kept it seperated.
More revenge.
apparently I'm in the minority but I really like this juxtaposition and the symbolism of the brutality of it, especially as someone who lost family members in the holocaust (and the survivors were not allowed home due to the soviet takeover)

THEN DO THIS UNGLY STUFF IN ISREAL AND LEAVE US ALONE!
It simply looks awful.
It's awful that they destroyed such a beautiful historical building. However, unfortunately this is no surprise as this is a very common theme in Germany when they tear down so many historical buildings or doing completely unnecessary overhauls like this. I understand they have a troubled history for their country but destroying all of their historical buildings and other sites and items is not the answer to dealing with that history.

You are obviously talking out of your Fox News arse, because you have no idea how Denkmalschutz works.
@dave271

@@roadrunner6224 Well firstly I don't watch Fox News nor am I an American Republican as they are the primary audience for Fox News. Secondly, I do understand how the Denkmalshutz functions and I am not particularly a fan because they pick and choose what history and locations they would like to preserve all over Germany and it's other land. This goes for German museums as well. They shouldn't be demolishing historical buildings because they choose to bulldoze over the unsavory parts of their history instead using them as a teaching tool.

Igual de horroroso que cierta pirámide en Paris. Un despropósito 👎🏽
To all of the comments that this ruins the existing building: that's kind of the point. They had an architect of Jewish descent come in and call out German military for being dicks back in the day. Its a statement.
just another abomination - why can't they leave old buildings alone? why flatter architects' over-inflated egos?
