This 1969 Dodge Charger Dukes of Hazzard General Lee Replica is One Bad Ass Muscle Car

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 1969 Dodge Charger is one good reason to love muscle cars and The Dukes of Hazzard made sure we’d never forget it. This General Lee replica with this stiff chassis setup became a favorite of mine after driving it for the day. I hope you enjoy what I put together as much as I enjoyed driving it.
As always, feedback is welcomed. I'm a KZreadr in training, so go
easy on me. Thanks for watching!

In reference to the rims, the owner asked if I wanted the original rims on it for the video and I said no since I was more comfortable with more grip than less. He did mention that the handling was noticeably different since the body hangs over the wheels moreso with the original rims since they're not as wide. I really liked the style so I didn't think it would matter much being that he had the others on hand but boy was I wrong. I expected some comments about it, sure, but the amount of disrespectful adult babies out there is just astonishing. Be respectful and if you're gonna have the balls to comment something rude, than at least have a General Lee yourself that's picture perfect, because we all know you trolls are driving Kia Rio's. Thank you and good day!

It makes sense to have two sets of wheels and tires, one for show one for go, which is stated in the video. I can understand purists being mad when it comes to General Lee accuracy but when you have a car built and upgraded like it is with the motor, Tremec 5spd and upgraded suspension and any other upgrades that are in place of stock for better handling, it makes sense to have wheels and tires that give better traction, handling, especially in turns and curves. Unless American Racing makes Vector wheels the same size as the wheels on the car that you can also put the same tires on them that are on these wheels in the video so you have the same contact and handling improvement, it only makes sense to employ two sets of wheels and tires. If American Racing doesn't make rim's the size of these rim's so you can't have these tires you could be in danger of giving those more stock style sized wheels and tires more than they can handle. It can be the difference between crashing and not crashing. If I built a General Lee when it comes to performance and functionality improvements I think I would build it a lot like this one. I'd love to have a professionally built 440 with a Tremec 5spd and the Hotchkiss suspension upgrades. They work really well because that car had no body roll going on when he was doing doughnuts with the Trans Am in the parking lot. The great thing for these old Mopars is they keep coming out with better built engines, transmissions, upgraded suspension and braking systems that's light years better than the original technology. If it only improves the car's handling and reliability without sacrificing its classic muscle car personality but if anything improves upon it, then why not take advantage of the improved technology and use what our predecessors who bought these cars originally in the 60's and 70's could only dream about. I think some types of modern tech doesn't work right with these cars character and personality but a lot of it does. I don't like things that change looks like some times people will make radical changes to the dash and interiors that are so alien to the original appearance that it really doesn't look like it belongs there but if you can improve upon things like suspension, handling, braking without changing a cars personality for the worse but make it even better then why not take advantage of the technologies that have been invented? Not that there is anything wrong with a pure stock restoration either but there are some improvements and changes that can be made that simply make for a better performing car without losing anything about the car that makes it cool in the first place. Everyone is free to build one the way they want, I see no point in being hyper critical of someone else's idea on how they wanted to build theirs. If every General Lee or Charger in general was built exactly alike that would mean nobody has any individual thoughts, ideas and imagination. There is so much variety available to building a "correct" General Lee they'll all be different from each other. For example, the style of the graphics on the car mildly changed over the course of the series from what is called "Georgia era" to "Late California era" and a few more in between, that no two General Lee's may be exactly a like. Variety is the spice of life. These builds should be enjoyed and give ideas to people how they may want to build or change theirs. If I went to a car show and there were a hundred Generals lined up together, they'd all have their differences, I'd study and like each one and admire and appreciate the work the owners have put into them. There is no point in bashing someone for how they built their car. Its built the way they like it and that's all that matters.

The sound. If I had to choose one thing that I love most about old muscle cars, the sound would easily be one of the first things to come to mind. The sound alone always draws a smile to my face when I start up my 67 Cougar. No resonators or catalytic converters to muddle the sound, just pipes, headers, and maybe a muffler. You can't get that kind of raw sound anymore.

To all the 40 yr old's who grew up watching reruns. I gotcha beat.. I'm 50 and was lucky enough to see the very first episodes of both The Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider when they first aired on TV. The Dukes was January of 79' if I remember correctly with the slot machine episode, I was 10 yrs old. In the mid 1980's Time Life Video offered a VHS Tape collection for sale of the entire series. Can you imagine all those big cumbersom VHS tapes arriving at your door! Lol.. Yee Ha!.. Knight rider came out in September of 1982, I was 13. I remember for a few weeks briefly in August, 1982 there were commercials on TV, not really commercials but rather previews for the new upcoming Knight Rider show comparing it to the General Lee which was on the opposite TV network. One was NBC and the other was CBS. So, they had the Knight Rider car and the General Lee car both running side by side in the desert and doing jumps together in the same TV commercial (Preview) for Knight Rider. But since The Dukes of Hazzard was on an opposing TV network, they could not show the car with the decals. You only saw a bright orange 69' Dodge Charger with a "00" on the doors instead of a 01 and no flag on top running alongside the KITT car. But, anybody who saw the show knew exactly what car that was!.. The commercial began with the bright orange Charger doing some slides and doughnuts in the desert. Then an English accented announcer stepped into view on the screen.. "From time to time you may have see this car on another network".. he said. Then out of nowhere the KITT Trans Am appeared on screen and jumped over top of the General Lee! Then the announcer said, "But coming soon to this network we have a show that will blow your doors off!".. I don't even think the announcer said the name of the new show.. It was a complete attention grabber. It left the viewer thinking, "Wow! What was that!?" I gotta remember to tune in and check that out...

It's a breath of fresh air to hear from someone that knows I'm a human. Something tells me that even if you hated the rims, you'd be polite about it (which a rare few were). I'm jealous of your 68 though, I've been wanting an old school muscle car and hopefully will have the chance to get one in the next decade.

George You know exactly why its the most beautiful car in the world You just don't know how to say it Its got tail lights that look like two sawed off shotguns facing each other. Theres not another set of taillights like that on any car anywhere. Its got hidden headlights behind a black screen which is sinister looking like its wearing dark sunglasses Scallops in the hood and doors that no other car maker envisioned or utilized A rear window that sits between two towering pillars that looks racy and of course even then in the 1960's the world knew they had a unique winner This car even has a very rich racing history with Nascar. This car has the best looking ass of any car old or modern and its body has the same lines as beautiful woman. This car looks like the automotive equilivant to a sexy dominatrix

There was a Dukefest.Cooter (Ben Jones) and his wife Alma Viator put it on for a while. The '04 and '05 shows were at Bristol Motor Speedway, and they were awesome! They did a stunt show each year, and jumped a General...it was great! The '05 show was especially great, because not only was it a huge "Dukes of Hazzard" show, and all the living stars were there, but they also had a Mopar car show going on,with a swap meet, and the dragstrip was open, too! I had three friends there, all with there own Generals, and two also had cop car replicas, too! I had the privilege of driving one buddy's General around the NASCAR track in that line of Generals you saw in this video. It was epic!!! The '06 and '07 shows were in Nashville, I believe, but I didn't go to them, then John Schneider took it over in '08 and had his show at Atlanta Motor Speedway. That was a great experience, too.Got to drive one guy's cop car in a procession around the track while he was many places ahead in his General.
