🚲 This 1500W Ebike Works Without A Controller (Full DIY Build - ASMR-ish)

No controller? How does that work? Full DIY build of a 1500W Hub Motor Kit.
I built this ebike using a Schwinn Sidewinder frame and it's pretty awesome! This is a Juaopay 1500W hub motor kit and the controller is embedded inside the motor. This has some unique advantages being that you don't need a place to mount the controller and also the wiring is much more simplified because all the wires that would be going from the controller to the motor are directly connected. This provides a very clean look and also makes installation much easier.
The only real downside to this is that if you have an issue with the controller you basically have to replace the motor as well, which can be a pain but I think the positives outweigh the detriments.
This was a super fun build and I document all the steps ASMR-style so it may help you out if you're looking to build your own DIY ebike. 1500W is more than plenty of power as with this kit you can go up to 30MPH, this is slightly less than a kit with a separated controller, but not by much.
I did have two issues that I go over when building the bike but both were pretty simple to fix with explanations of how I fixed them.
Thanks for watching, more builds on the way!

I have a similar 1200w direct drive with integrated 30A controller but from Saili Motor. Next time you order off Ali, ask your supplier to include an extra controller unit (hub needs to be disassembled and soldering then required, but now you can repair the hub). This integrated controller unit is about $30. One other thing about your lower speed...check that P14 on the sw900 display is set to 30A and not the default setting of 12A. You might even push P14 out to 35A. Happy riding

Thanks for the tip man 👍I haven't needed to replace one of these controllers yet, but it shouldn't be too hard. Oh yeah, I'm well versed in programming, already set the display to 40A, and battery can do that too, but this kit was only advertised to 30MPH, so I think they down tune the controller for heat management, or at least that's my guess. Thanks!

"The aliens came without warning, unleashing their powerful weapons on the unsuspecting humans. They targeted the major cities, military bases and power plants, hoping to cripple the resistance and take over the planet. But they made one fatal mistake: they underestimated the ingenuity of the human engineers. Using scraps of metal, wires and batteries, they quickly assembled makeshift electric bikes with torque arms. These devices allowed them to accelerate faster than the alien vehicles, and also prevent axle spinout when making sharp turns or braking. The human bikers formed guerrilla squads, attacking the alien convoys and bases with hit-and-run tactics. They used their torque arms to attach explosives to the alien ships, or to jam their sensors and weapons. They also used them to rescue other survivors and transport supplies. The aliens were caught off guard by this unexpected resistance. They could not track or catch the human bikers, who seemed to appear and disappear at will. They also could not understand why the humans would use such primitive and inefficient machines, instead of relying on more advanced technology. But the humans knew that sometimes, simplicity was the best solution. They used their torque arms not only as tools, but as symbols of hope and defiance. They showed the aliens that they would not give up their planet without a fight. And eventually, they won."

Controller inside provides safety overall of ppl not going to be able to cut anything. Those fires mainly from DIY of controller and battery spec messin and never admit to investigators their e bike self modified from getting fined or claim damages against makers.@@hightech-lowlife

Ha ha! I'm glad to hear you've jumped onto the torque arm bandwagon, but unfortunately a new study has shown that torque arms are not enough. You have to actually weld the axle to the frame. And don't worry about the motor cable. It can handle it.

  • @hightech-lowlife

    @hightech-lowlife

    Жыл бұрын

Well, if we're going for "safety" above all else, then soon you will also have to weld your bike stationary to the floor, and wear a full suit of bubble wrap, but then that will be deemed far too dangerous because people were crying that the bubble wrap chafed them. Then the only way to ride an ebike would be through the use of VR goggles, but then they will take those away because they're dangerous and the lights were causing some people to have vision problems, so ultimately the only safe way to ride an ebike was to lay in your bed asleep, but even that can be dangerous - "28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, 12 seconds."

Thanks for your concern. This is a Schwinn frame, not an amazon bike 👍There is a stigma in the ebike community that if you don't spend a lot on a premium brand frame, then your bike will break and fall apart, but I know this from experience to be nonsense. A lot of premium frames will favor lightness over strength, which actually leads them to be less useful for powerful ebike conversions (many will use aluminum or carbon - and thinner frames). I'm sure there are people who have broken their frames, but same with people who have spend hundreds more or even thousands on a gucci frame (I've owned specialized and trek bikes before). What you mostly get from ultra premium is better components like shocks/shifters/brakes, but as far as the frame itself, I don't feel the price is justified as you're mostly paying for the name and status. I go over every part of a new build anyway, as almost everything needs adjustment.

It's a good question, I haven't had enough time with one of the integrated controllers to say for certain, but I do believe they are reliable. If you're more DIY oriented I still would recommend a separated controller, just because it makes it a bit easier to troubleshoot and replace parts more easily than an integrated unit, also you could upgrade the controller later if you wanted. But if you want something very easy to install and a cleaner look, I wouldn't be too weary of the integrated controller hub motors 👍

Hi: I commute 31 miles each day. I'm interested in a build with high reliability... I push the bike and 750W motor and burn out the motors (hall effect sensors). I'm thinking that a 1500W motor may be better for my application - 22-25mph on pretty much flat roads. What brand/motor would you recommend? Do you think the build in your vid would work for me? Thanks for the vid... it was awesome!

Thanks man! You're burning out motors all the time? 1500W Will do 30-34mph, so it will have an easier time if you're not pushing it to the limit for sure 👍 I've used all kinds of kits, haven't really had any issues ranging from very cheap to more expensive, but YMMV. I think this build is perfect for commuting like that, depending on a lot of things that 30 miles may be pushing it for run time (again depends a lot) but if you can charge at work part way, then it's super easy.

I tend to stick with rear hubs as you have more control over your bike (torque steer) and also because the rear dropouts are stronger than the fronts. I personally wouldn't put too high power of a motor on a front fork, but if you're just casually riding and not doing anything too crazy then it should be totally fine. Just be sure to use torque arms on a front hub because they are much more prone to failure. Anything in the 500-1000W range should be good, there are a ton of front hub kits out there 👍

Guys for the last time Steel frames generally don’t need torque arms, now aluminum 100% you should always add torque arms. On steel frames unless you are running very high power there is only like a 7% chance of the motor spinning out, it’s more of a peace of mind addition for steel frames

Thanks man! 😅trust me though, it won't be the last time. This idea that you need to run torque arms no matter what, will be perpetuated infinitely, but I will also continue to make fun of it. Cheers man! 🍻
