Not true. Many stores are open. More retail vacancies, but that is everywhere after the pandemic.

People who make videos like that have an agenda. In this case it sounds like they're straight up lying. It's a high income city with a massive college population. There are hundreds of open restaurants and small businesses. It's far from collapsing, in reality it's a nice place to live.

Very alarming to see that the 99 cent store closed in DT Berkeley. That made it accessible to the middle to lower class folks... Dang ..

Not sure which 99 cent store brand you're talking about. 99 Cents Only went bankrupt and closed all stores. The Dollar Store announced the closure of 1,000 stores a while ago. Thanks for watching.

Berkeley has 2 High Schools. The 2nd High School is St. Mary's at the end of Sacramento St. In North Berkeley. I went there and lived by the North Berkeley Bart Station.

Wow, I have a lot of things to say about this video, and the city of Berkeley itself, but there's a lot that I can't share. I've lived in Berkeley now for more than forty years, and am in the process of moving out of the Bay Area all together. I read a comment below mine where someone calls this video a "puff piece" for the city of Berkeley, and I can see why anyone would think that. This guy does a very good job, photogenically, and visually, of making Berkeley look "attractive." Other than the more wealthier neighborhoods of Berkeley, the university is the nicest-looking place in the city because they keep homeless people largely off of the campus, and the lawns are always manicured and look well-kept. In the city itself, there is garbage on the street in many public areas, and there's a homeless and a mental illness population that fluctuates in size. There are all ready too many people and too many cars in this city - geographically, Berkeley isn't a very large city. These days, driving in the city always feels crammed and stressful. In spite of this fact, there's a lot of new (and expensive) apartments being built, which also adds to the traffic congestion because the workers will often close or shut down certain streets for months at a time because of the building being erected into the sky like the eye-sores they are. There's a large percentage of people who live in Berkeley who have a sense of entitlement and superiority here, as well. Also, most of the streets are old and crumbling and filled with potholes, making them hard to drive on with most regular cars. Lastly, the Berkeley City Council seems inept and useless in terms of dealing with many of these problems, and the people here largely do not like the police department, and the police department, for the most part, do not like the city. This I think (sadly) is the much more overall accurate description of what it is like living in Berkeley in 2024....

You're entitled to your opinion about Berkeley and my video. It's obvious that you're tired of living in Berkeley and see nothing but the negative about the city. The pros about the city no longer catch your eye. I hope your next home is the utopia you're looking for.

This is a puff piece. Not realistic at all. Drug addicts, crime, homeless. Many stores have closed, including businesses that were here for decades.

I never said there weren't drug addicts nor homeless. What large size city DOESN'T have those challenges? But, those challenges FAR from summarize life in the city. If you only want to focus on the bad, that's your perogative.
