Think Turkmenistan Is Funny? Think Again

The antics of Turkmenistan’s authoritarian leader, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, have recently been the butt of jokes by Western comedians. But the daily realities in the country are grim - and unlikely to change.

I've met a Turkmen guy, and heard from him that back in the day the Turkmen government made natural gas free. However, apparently almost everything else remained expensive in the isolated country, and the combination created very strange market distortions and failures. For example, people would leave their gas stoves on 24/7, because it was cheaper than using matches to relight the fire.

This is a US Government owned propaganda channel, how will it accept that Russia is helping its satellite country by buying its gas even though it reduces it's own export? It also doesn't mention that thousands of Turkmen labour work in Russia and their remittances keep Turkmenistan afloat. Actually there are two separate pipeline systems to export gas to Russia, one system to export gas to China (more than half of all exports), two systems to export gas to Iran and one system under construction to export gas to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. There is also talks to export to Turkey. All that true information is of course not going to be available in the US propaganda channel, whose only aim is to plunder the resources after creating a colour revolution. Turkmenistan being as it is North Korea-like, colour revolution is not going to be easy.

Sending ur kid to study to North America is considered as a thing, that only rich people can do in Turkmenistan. Besides, if you are a corrupted politician, then the local laws don't apply to you and you can abuse them as much as you want, so there are no restrictions on the amount of money you can transfer to your spoiled kids. So stop fooling people with this BS, please. P.S. @@ashey68 god knows if anyone will even live there, and if people will live there, that means that they're moving from the rural countryside to mary, ashgabat etc to seek their luck elsewhere, same thing in mongolia, so many people left herding in rural mongolia for ulaanbaatar, it doesn't mean that there's a mass exodus of turkmen, which actually endagers the current president, that's one of the main factors why the father of the current president gave him power, he is an incompetent rat who will be overthrew if he continues driving people en masse from the country since a lot of their taxes goes directly to support the elite
