Think Differently for Breakthrough - Bob Hamp

bobhamp.com/
Bob Hamp is an author, speaker, and teacher proclaiming the freedom offered through the gospel. Coming from an unchurched background, he was unexpectedly ambushed by an encounter with God that changed the direction and foundation of his life forever. His unique slant on the Gospel is the result of looking through the lens of a counselor and sitting across from people in need for almost three decades.
Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Texas, Bob was in private practice for 16 years, helping people with every type of struggle imaginable. He then stepped into one of the fasting growing churches in Texas, where he spent nine years developing a discipleship strategy called Freedom Ministry.
Now, Bob with his wife Polly are the Owners and Directors of Think Differently Counseling, Coaching and Connecting; a counseling and training center in Grapevine, Texas. Specializing in freedom based counseling and coaching. They offer topical classes, training events and a Think Differently Training Certification program. Together they feel called to make disciples without building a congregation.
Bob and Polly have six grown kids, four grandchildren, and two corgis.

What about when you have went thru all of these steps in order and now only want to Fully love and die with/for Jesus? No longer have the need/want for anything, free as a bird just waiting for eternity as he promises? …. But have children (whom you have fully entrusted to Yeshua)

What do we do if we want to surrender ourselves to Jesus, but can't? Like, there's a feeling inside of us that is keeping us from completely wanting to surrender and we don't feel powerful enough to fight said feeling.

Forget about what you "feel". Surrendering Christ is not a matter of feeling. It is an act of the Will. Even in fear and doubt you can surrender to Christ. When i surrendered i still had many questions about the Faith. But God had made himself known to be enough to know that he was the way. And let me be honest, for months I didn;t "feel" like i could measure up. I kept messing up BAD! But the Gospel is about trusting the one who has already DONE IT ALL. Christ perfectly lived his life and died the dead of a sinner. and we exchange places. So i am seen as perfect in Gods eyes. So i obey and surrender out of gratitude not in order to earn Gods favor or heaven. That has already been given to me! Praying for yoU!

Ditto to the previous reply! Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that the heart is deceitful above all things. It tricks us! I have summed up the Gospel like this: God is holy. We are not. God provided a Lamb in Jesus so that when we believe our relationship with God is restored. As was stated, Jesus did it all, and even the faith we have to believe comes from God. An additional thought is Religion=DO, Christianity=DONE...we cannot add to what Jesus accomplished in His death and resurrection. When our relationship with God is reconciled through Jesus, He will complete the work HE began. (see 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24; Philippians 1:6; Galatians 3:1-3). God save, bless and keep you, Lucian!

@@tammyhagger9791 yes, it is Jesus who paid it all as the prophet Isaiah stated in Isaiah 53:5....and with his stripes we are healed. We are healed. He did finish it. He said He finished the work His father had given Him to do. The only thing for us to do is BELIEVE He did it and once we do, that is our repentance. No more trusting in ourselves or in anything else other than the finished work by Christ. God bless...

There might not be one key answer to this question - always be weary of simple “if you fix this one thing, everything else will be fixed” (unless scripture says so, and in context - in other words and other scriptures don’t say different things to balance that out)… Pray, seek counsel and prayer from other believers, be a part of a local church (go in person, not just online) where you can find actual relationships (not just “hey how are you? “I’m fine” “you?” But actual honesty. There are churches where honesty is valued not shied away from… Read the Word, the entire thing. Pay attention to the Holy Spirit’s leading in you and ask mature believers about how to discern what is God versus what is yourself. Be humble…. My point is surrender is not going to be just one step but a way of life that will have zillions of details. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint” as the saying goes. Jesus’s ministry was walking - God’s “speed” is pretty slow in many senses. It’s a long road. Protect your heart along the way. Take all your concerns to God like David does in psalms… I don’t say any of this as if I’m fully surrendered - not going to fake like I’m perfect. So don’t hear this as some huge weight or something you have to catch up with. Look to Jesus, only He can give you the strength. You don’t have it in yourself. Neither do I.

I’d highly suggest the book (or course if you can find a church doing it, not sure what city you are in) called Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. No class or book or bit of advice is going to be THE answer. It’s a process and takes time. It’s a long journey. Pace yourself and ask God for help, He has the strength - we don’t.
