Things YOU Think are OK but are really NOT OK | Actions Your Students Don’t Appreciate

Actions and Behaviors that Make Your Students HATE YOU!
An ESL teacher typically works from home. This is definitely a great WFH (work from home) job but sometimes we get TOO COMFORTABLE that we fail to draw a line separating our “home” from our “work”…a line separating what is “personal” and what is “professional”.
This video will cover that things we, ESL teachers do that we THINK are OK but are actually NOT OK with our students. We will talk about actions, gestures and behaviors that we sometimes do in class out of being overly comfortable that actually affects our teaching credibility and the student’s experience.

Watched this to check my teaching style and thank god except for the personal question one, I don't do any of these. I only ask personal questions when my student and I have become close or during demo/trial classes when I'm trying to assess their English level.

Hi Teacha Karen! I love your videos. I began teaching with Native Camp this week. Your videos have been a true lifeline. You have great energy and you make me laugh and stay interested in your journey.I have learned so much from you on how to adapt to a virtual classroom. I have a question based off of this particular video. Concerning taking a step out of class (being off camera) how would you handle a sittuation regarding your health? I suffer from asthma and I have experienced asthma attacks while teaching. This has been in person, and the student was aware and understanding. If this were to occur in class, I'm worried my student would be scared or unsure of what was happening. I have felt a bit insecure and anxious if this were to occur during an online class. I don't know if it is necessary to explain to every student before class that I have asthma, but I also want to ensure that my student feels secure learning from me. Thanks Teacha!

I usually start with rapport :) "Wow you're so good at English, are you an English teacher? I noticed you are quite skilled in speaking the language, do you often speak English at work? If you don't mind me asking, what do you do? Why do you like to improve your English skills? Do you do this for work? If you don't mind me asking, what do you do?

Hi Teacha Karen! I'm Cynthia from Indonesia and I am gonna be a teacher at NC soon. I wanna ask if it is okay to ask students for their contact to send like a report about their progress and assignments that they could do to improve their English? I hope you answer my question. Thank you!!!😉
